Exactly.
The difference is, MP was breaking the law because of his addiction, the doctors and dealers for money.
Still breaking the law though, and he was the one with all the power in that house- being the owner and employer. We know nothing of the other people involved stories, - they might have reasons and addiction issues too.

I know someone who bought heroin for their child too - they are the kindest people who simply didn’t know what to do for their child who begged them with his life.

You don't know anything about MP, too.

How do you know he "had all the power in that house"?
When he needed someone to essentially watch him almost around the clock and to assist with his dependency, then it is pretty clear he did NOT have all the power! I don't think it is easy to find someone to live with such an ill person and to even inject them!

Also, those doctors wrote to each other "how much this moron is willing to pay" - doesn't sound like MP had the power, rather than the doctors had the power: because they had the drug he needed and therefore they could freely charge him what they wanted, and obviously did!

I am not even sure, IF he was breaking the law. if he was dependent and ill (anxiety, depression, pain), then those will be mitigating circumstances.
What mitigating circumstances do the doctors have? They really wanted a new Porsche?

For me the doctors are really the ones who are responsible for this - they will have known better, they were purely motivated by greed.
I won't even start with their moral obligations.

Some really interesting points. I think I feel so bad for him because I loved his character in Friends and also because he seemed so desperate and pathetic really in the end. So vulnerable and a world away from the glam lifestyle he should have had.
But the comments on here have made me think about that and it’s so true that he can’t be called innocent and all the blame put onto others. He even claimed he was sober and made a book out of it, so clearly lied and downplayed his addiction constantly. It will be really interesting to see what comes out from these charges, specifically what defence the PA gives.

All I take from this is that Hollywood is an absolute cesspit! So far from the glamour I imagined when i was young. Those saying they would have behaved with more integrity have clearly never been around an addict or an addict in a position of power and privilege at that. This whole saga is one sorry mess! MP was in a bad way - first shot of Ket at 8.30 am. He clearly couldn’t master his demons and sadly to me this has an air of inevitability about it.

Morning. Nothing really new but good insight into what goes on. these dudes will likely get the book thrown at them, but sadly the void will soon be filled by other greedy and unscrupulous wankers

Jesus, not enough to supply drugs to a drug addict, Dr. Plasencia violated HIPAA discussing MP's issues with another patient! 😲 This story is so sordid. The assistant administered Matthew near the hot tub, I mean WTF?

There’s a whole cohort of opioid addicted Americans caused by the greed of doctors who failed to consider the risk when cash bonuses and holidays to the Bahamas were thrown at them from the likes of Pardue.

America seems horrible for getting people addicted easily, like Matthew had an accident and was prescribed heavy painkillers which he then got addicted too. Then the doctor doesn't prescribe more and they need something else. In the UK they seem very careful about giving people addictive drugs for recovery because of this.

If I have read this correctly. He was on a regime where he had prescribed Ket via IV and that was working - he was I suppose ‘clean’ then? Then towards late Sept 23 he started asking the PA to score extra for him so that’s when the dodgy docs got involved and then it just spiralled to his death in a few short weeks? He stopped getting his prescription ketamine the last few times - I wonder if this is because he’d be tested to ensure there was nothing else in his system?

I remember a few years ago, my husband went to America for a work trip and developed a sore throat and cough whilst there. His company encouraged and booked him in to go and see a doctor - something he wouldn’t have done here, he would have waited it out! The amount of stuff they prescribed him was insane, he came home with a full bag of tablets, painkillers, sprays and strong antibiotics. He couldn’t believe how much they had given him and he didn’t even know what half of it was 🤣 They seem obsessed over there with drs and prescribing for any little ailment.

It happened to Johnny Depp as well, and I believe to Michael Jackson, too.

I had a UTI in New York and could buy pills containing antibiotics in a drug store.

The series Dopesick explains this really well. It’s not necessarily that they don’t prescribe more, in many cases they do/did. People were given opioids for headaches - good people, that suddenly found themselves scoring heroin months later because of the addiction spiral.

There must be a lot of people who have found themselves addicted because of what their doctor has prescribed. It's crazy that the doctors are easily willing to hand out very addictive substances with no thought of how they may react. I couldn't imagine going to my GP and getting anything like this. It's all greed, the fact they were charging him thousands for a £12 vial. I read an article this morning about the timeline leading up to his death, an unnamed woman said she saw him and he was in good spirits and his doctor had said he didn't need ketamine much longer because his mental health was getting better. Then these other doctors and a drug dealer have continued to inject him for his money basically. I just can't imagine getting ketamine prescribed for my anxiety at all.

Edited to add the article in incase anyone wants to read.

Americans have a thing called strep throat, which is medicated fully, and which everyone gets, that we just don’t even recognise. We get sore throats, sometimes tonsillitis or a throat infection that need antibiotics, but these are much rarer than strep throat.

I was diagnosed with strep throat in the UK many years ago.

That’s what I was thinking too. I have a daughter with T1 diabetes - she has to inject insulin multiple times a day. I haven’t had to inject her since she was 8. She’s now 20. MP seemed to be almost nannied by his PA. I suppose it’s typical celeb behaviour though.
