Maternal Instinct - Netflix

I watched it today. Wade isn't the sharpest tool in the box to be fair. I think he was probably a bit scared of her. He knew she was a fantasist and he couldn't face it or didnt know what to do i think.

I also think its shocking how many opportunities that passed where she could have been exposed yet everyone danced around it. Even that hospital facility who said they locked their maternity unit down as they thought she might steal a baby.

Why didn't they raise a concern with police about her? At the very least they could have been watching her and known she was hanging about with a girl who was approx at the same gestation in pregnancy.

She claimed to have given birth at the side of the road yet not a hint of a post birth bump or mess on her pyjamas. The state trooper didnt even attempt to resuscitate the baby, he said he couldnt, it needed an EMT. Holy tit, how poor a response was that?

I believe there is a really good youtube video about it all in much more detail. There were a lot of shocking details not in the Netflix programme. I don't mean that in a ghoulish way.

The poor mother really suffered and her family were so graceful.
I agree they all knew she was going to do something drastic when the due date got nearer. They could at least have reported to the police as an accident waiting to happpen! Why didn’t the police attempt to resuscitate? Anyone know what the you tube doc is called please?

They're a different breed in rural Texas!

I actually guessed the whole story after about five minutes in, having absolutely no knowledge of it before. I watch an enormous amount of true crime and, as such, I was aware of this case, which is almost identical 👇🏼

That was all I was thinking about all the way through. I was just a bit hazy on the details but I knew it was a Facebook or Craigslist meet up engineered by the perpetrator and it was to do with baby items.

Anyway, I strongly suspect that, given the timing - the Chicago case happened a year before and we know that all details will have very likely been made public well before the trial, because that the way the American justice system (wrongly) rolls - that this was Taylor's blueprint and she was doing an awful lot of Googling.

I suppose the problem is you can't just run surveillance on someone for a crime they haven't committed, only take wide ranging prevantative action. I wish someone had intercepted Taylor but I don't think there was anything within the remit of the law that could be done about her behaviour until it rapidly escalated.

I think she never expected to be pulled over by a state trooper and planned to get home and be in bed with "her newborn" when Wade would get in.
How she thought she would ever get away with it is unfathomable.
She should have just disappeared around the due date and left a note to say she lied.

Such a cruel and wicked end to both Reagan and her baby's lives.

The way she’s holding the baby in the car too like a football! If I’d given birth in the car everyone’s Instincts would be to put baby on their chest under their tshirt anything to keep the baby warm but she’s just holding the naked baby like trash. It’s blurred out but you can work it out

She was driving with her hazards on and she called an ambulance to say she was having her baby and needed to be taken to the hospital. I’ve no idea how she expected to get away with that. U would think that, as u said, she would be at home with the baby when Wade got back.

Literally all it would have taken to properly expose her was one of them confronting her in front of Wade and the family. I know my mum would have challenged my sister in law if she thought she was making it up, she'd be checking under her top!

Poor little girl in the house when her mum was killed too. I hope she didn't see or hear too much and has got some helo.

I assumed she only made that call when she realised a state trooper was behind her. One of the first things she said was that there was a trooper behind her.

Do you think she rang them as she realised there was something wrong with the baby.

That poor lady, children and her family. Just awful.

I thought he was just staying with her for the money and didn't actually love her which is really sad too.
Its hard to really know what you'd do, but then I guess when someone is believing the lies you maybe get to a point where you're like fine, I'm done.

I just find it sad that the doctor alerted the hospital as they were concerned she'd steal a baby but no one could force anything legally to make her prove the pregnancy.

Same as the Believe in Magic and Love Trapped cases, more needs to be done to expose and openly/legally deal with Munchausen's & Munchausen's by proxy cases because these people are often very very dangerous as they escalate and shouldn't be handled with kid gloves.

You wouldn't let a paranoid schizophrenic run riot in the streets because "let's wait and see if anything happens" -- no, you'd get them sectioned.

Has anyone watched this new documentary?
It’s about the case of Taylor Parker.

I don’t believe the husband had no idea she was lying

The police told him she’s in jail for killing her friend and cutting out her unborn child and he showed no emotion
I think he’s just a bit emotionally stunted and not the brightest

Does anyone know why she didn't have her other children with her ? It mentioned she sometimes has her daughter during the week, but no mention of any other child.
Also if it was such a small town how didn't they know she wasnt from money. Strange
I questioned this money issue too! Makes no sense

Annie Elise on YouTube has done a deep dive on this case. Worth watching as she has been looking into it for a while. Extra info there.

It's a shame they didn't show a lot of the trial because I was really interested in her defence.

As a purely armchair psychologist, I would say she demonstrated a lot of the characteristics of something like Borderline Personality Disorder and, as others have said, possibly Munchausens/Munchausen by Proxy.

To be honest though, mental health defences don't generally cut a lot of ice in a country where the justice system appears to be based on religion and revenge. It's far easier just to brand someone "evil" without really trying to understand why.

I think the psych said borderline personality disorder.

I think they actually failed her. This could have been nipped in the bud before this happened. She was clearly mentally ill and needed professional help. Now she’ll pay with her life and 2 other people have died as a result of this.

She’s as manipulative as hell from all I have read.
Very hard to help someone like that.
