I think deep down Marcus is quite a nice guy and much better at laughing at himself than Alfie but he did seem quite pretentious in that “doc”
He does seem so lost and lacking anything. I have felt this for a while. His OnlyFans when he was doing that (I don't know if he still is), all his pics looked like he'd been crying before taking them. He certainly didn't seem comfortable with it all.
Like you say, he's convincing himself he's happy but he doesn't actually seem it.

I just found the whole interaction so opposite to what it followed, Naomi was so open and emotional and than Marcus was almost robotic! He kept just going back to the experimentation bit. Surely by this point he deep down knows who he is and what he wants, whether he wants to admit it! It was sort of sad to watch it all unfold! He seemed like he wants to keep up this “alternative” persona…. It was just weird

I've never understood why some think Berlin Marcus looks interesting. He looks like a Berlin starter pack. Exactly how you'd expect someone to look that had not much of an identify or personality who moved there. It's a different form of nothingness. But still nothingness. Would show character if he hadn't of turned into generic Berlin.

These guys weren’t challenged enough because the interviewer (Josh) is not in a neutral position. He was kind of a part of this group and does not want to upset his contacts. That’s why this is not a good doc at all in my opinion.
He managed to make Berlin look and seem extremely dull (to me). I've never been so no idea what it's really like. But going to these desperately pretentious sex clubs or whatever they were. Surely you'd go a few times then just find it boring and quite depressing. But I guess he's made it all his thing.
He still gets jobs with fashion brands. He recently worked with Ray Ban, Adidas (instagram ads but also a big international billboard campaign), Levis, Prada, Gucci, Armani, which is more than most of his peers (like e.g. Niomi Smart) can say. He also gets paid for his DJ work (yes, really), and I guess Ante Berlin also makes a bit of profit.
I actually kinda liked how Josh, after being at the club with Marcus, was talking to the camera and was like "if you see me having a good time, you'll see me smiling with my friends..No one in that club was smiling. At all." The whole thing with Marcus was painfully pretentious, he takes himself soooo seriously, but he is going to cringe so bad looking back on himself in 10 years time.
He always took himself very seriously. Even when he was Marky Butt Butt he’d do these long videos talking about where should he go creatively and asking what his fans wanted him to do eg do you remember that old lady Margaret he dressed up as? I remember thinking how silly it was having these serious discussions about the silliest content. He has definitely always had a tendency to overthink and be self conscious.
