I tell you what sifting through all her testimony has proved to me and that is the NHS is desperately in need of a far firmer no mobile phones on duty policy across the board.
People who work the tills at Tesco or tellers at the bank aren't permitted to have their phones on at work, let alone be engaging in perpetual text exchanges with other staff. Talking about patients, taking pictures of patients, Googling dead babies' parents.
It's fucking disgraceful. Is it normal in the NHS for phones to be never out of nurses' hands or was C of C just especially shit at absolutely every feature of guarding patient safety and patient confidentiality?
I mean it wasn't just her was it? She was texting other people when she was off duty as they worked. While she was at work she was texting people who were off. No one ever said "This isn't really appropriate call me when we're both off" It was completely normalised.
I would not be happy if I thought that staff were running about a ward I was on or my loved ones were on with the means of taking images or videos of myself or other patients. I sure as shit wouldn't feel confident about the standard of care being delivered by staff who are administering meds and recording vital signs between planning drinkies, moaning about their workload & reassuring one another about what stellar medical professionals they all are.
