I know he has to be impartial and fair in his summing up, but I'm so glad Judge Goss included the bit that NJ highlighted to point out all the startling coincidences in the 17 cases...the bleeding, screaming, discolouration, collapsing just after nurse on break etc.

It's strong in those terms as these babies all died of natural causes according to defence yet these reactions/incidents don't follow a natural pathology. Especially as the bit he followed or with about the defence was basically LL says she is innocent but not much else to back it up.

Sky news making the start of jury deliberations a breaking news moment on TV gives an indication of how huge this is. I don’t know if I’ve seen this before for when jury only start deliberations.

Please, does anyone know why this has to be unanimous? I thought 10&1 or similar was also acceptable?

They aways prefer unanimous as it lessens the chance for them requesting an appeal. But if it can't be unanimous then they will accept the 11-1or in some cases 10-2 to prevent a mistrial/hung jury and the whole case possibly collapsing. Sometimes with hung jury they don't take it to trial a second time so the person walks free. This trial has cost millions plus all those months so they will not want anything to cause it to collapse at this stage.

all jury deliberations start with trying to reach a unanimous verdict. It means they will all be focussed on discussing and resolving any issues to try and all agree on the same verdict.

So don’t worry, it’s normal. And if after some time (guessing a few days) they can’t reach unanimous, the judge will tell them he will accept a majority.

I imagine that by now all the news outlets have two articles ready. The non guilty one and the guilty one. I wonder how much effort went into the NG guilty one.. esp where the journalists sat through most of the trial.

I hope for those jurors Goss gives them a lifetime exemption from going back to jury service as the last 9 months must have been brutal
