On our unit it's a confidential waste bin, ward manager has a key as do the external company who open it to dispose of it. Once it's in it's not coming back out, well it shouldn't

Ours is a locked confidential waste bin and an external company dispose of it. Our ward manager has a key because i accidentally dropped a key in it
I don’t know about anyone else but I’m feeling very sad and gloomy after all the information that’s come out today. Remember to take a break from the coverage and try to recognise when it’s having an impact on you. (I’m going to have a tea and make myself a hot water bottle)

So the consultants themselves realised LL was the most likey culprit. There probably was some whispering around the hospital about something being amiss, which is why she may have stopped (discussed in the last thread).

The Facebook thing doesn’t make her look great. There is no reason to stalk the parents of the dead children. It’s sick to be honest.
The paperwork can be explained away easily I think. If she wanted to hide something surely she would’ve destroyed it when she knew the police were on her tail. Maybe she picked it up accidentally when it was under a folder or other paperwork she needed to take home. If it comes out that she had the handover sheet of EVERY baby who died/nearly died then that would be alarm bell ringing territory for me.

I guess I can see her looking up the families to see if they were saying anything about her on social media while she was under investigation.
One thing I don't get and I may have missed this. If child A was killed first for example. At the post mortem if they found air or insulin that should not have been there. Then how was she (if it was her) able to go on killing others.
Wonder if the parents were told at the time that their child died of one thing. Then after a review found they died from the real reason.

I wanted to believe she was not guilty and she may still not be I know people say innocent until proven guilty .

I don't know about NICU I don't work on them but handover for me is a big list , it doesn't have the patients name say name someone is called Joe Bloggs they will be called JB , it will say risks allergies etc . It says their OBS , medications whether they accepted medication. Any incidents etc. It doesn't have their entire life story or about their family that would be on the notes on the computer. Does NICU not have a large handover in the morning and evening of all patients?
I would think she was searching the families quite soon after the death. To search while under investigation would be strange and very stupid.
It did say they will go Into detail about that aswell so I’m intrigued to see what they mean by that . Did she stalk them a lot . Maybe they found photos of the babies on her computer from the parents pages
I like doing a bit of social media stalking at times. But never have I killed anyone or tried to kill any one. So it is possible that people do this. In this day and age people put so much online. I do it more out of bordem.

From looking at the reports it says that it was “unexplained” on the post mortem. It was only
after the hospital came under investigation and Police became involved (presumably due to further medical findings related to the deaths) in 2017 that she was arrested. So they didn’t conclude air embolus or insulin poisoning until police / investigations for failings
Typically they all have a safety handover at the start of each shift. Most units are moving away from having a printed handover sheet as well due to IG reasons.
Handover sheet doesn’t always mean a list of jobs kind of list or a handover of all patients. Some trusts have a signed handover sheet in patient notes. It’s where you simply sign to say you’ve received handover and there’s a little outstanding box but so you can write “order some new dressings”.
Just my observations from agency nursing from various trusts!
Well I've got paperwork I haven't thrown away from ages ago stuffed away in places, If she kept all the individual handover sheets of babies she had attempted to murder/murdered that would be very suspicious if it's just child B or loads of handover sheets then less so. Does the handover sheets have all the patients on ?The prosecution will need to elaborate on that.

Curious to know, I wonder what the profile of the jury is? I wonder if there’s any parents on there (not of the victims) or if they deliberately screen out parents for fear their opinion would be swayed more than a childless person? anyone legal who can shed light?
Regarding the medical professionals who have killed patients, have god complexes etc, I recently had an operation and in my quiet moments recovering, maybe it’s just my anxious ocd mind, but it’s quite a scary thought that when you’re under GA, people could do literally anything to you and you wouldn’t even know
Not that I think any good dr would do that! But it’s a scary thought that, in my instance, my neck was wide open, lots of arteries etc, one wrong move and that would be it, you’re literally powerless. Not fatal but there was that surgeon who branded his intitials onto patients liver!
also, since being on this thread, the thought hit me that any of us at any time could be called up to do jury duty for the most horrific cases! Scary thought
