I'm trying out Bumble BBF at the moment. That might be a good place to start, also where are you based? I'm always down with talking silly nonsense with people. xx
Rural Sussex - I looked at that app before but there wasn't anyone on it anywhere near here. That's the other thing isn't it as well, if we're not busy with children, we're busy with work, I do really long days and I'm sure there's some other woman nearby who finishes work at 7pm, and would just like to pop over to a friend's house without having to put 'going out' clothes on and drive for half an hour.
I'm sure the modern world has made life like this for lots of people.

Definitely relate to all of these . I’m 38 with a partner of 20 years and a dog but no real friends outwith my extended family and friends of my family . I was always fairly popular until I hit my teens and ever since then I’ve never really had any proper friends .

It must be really difficult, I don’t know how people can integrate when working from home. I’m retired now and I’m so happy that I am. I just felt that work controlled my life. I’m married, no kids, just me and hubby, but I love being at home. I don’t have many friends but I’m deaf and have really bad tinnitus and I get fed up with keep saying pardon, so I tend to avoid people

I must admit it made me really sad when I heard there was no more TL. But the next morning I was overjoyed when it was still running. Think I do rely on it being here

I didn't feel lonely until my late 30s when my last surviving parent died and the pandemic. I was quite sociable in my late teens /20s , although most of my interactions were superficial, I never felt lonely. Interestingly , that was pre social media.

Being content in your own company is a life skill
I am content in my own company until night times then the kids and husband sleep and I'm on my own it's a different kind of alone at night I can be in the house all day in my own and be fine

It really hard for a woman my age to find a childless friend, someone who just wants to do all the fun things like you
This is where I am, too. I have a couple of close friends but they live a long way away, and I live in a rural area so unless I get a dog & start walking it, I'm not going to meet any people. And yes, I'd love a dog but my job just doesn't really fit around owning a pet at the mo. I'd love to just have someone to go for a quick drink with, to chat silly nonsense with, without having to plan it weeks/months in advance. There's no easy solution to this I don't think, at this age.

I am in my late 50's, divorced, and my 2 grown up kids have left home.
Parents and brother both passed away.
I work from home mainly.

Started a new job last year, but not easy to make friends in the office, when it is huge,
and people work hybrid, and we all hot-desk when we go in.

In my new job, I can travel into the office, and not speak to a single person (apart from on Teams).
All just to prove that I go into the office.....

It's working age adults that seem to be the lonliloneliest . Everyone sympathises with elderly people, particularly widowed ones and there are social initiatives aimed at them .

I live with my husband and 3 kids but I go a very long time without anybody speaking to me nicely. Which I think is a subject for another thread .
Definitely working adults. I have a husband and two kids and no friends just colleagues and people I say hello to. I find nights horrendous when the husband sleeps early for work

Whilst I don't post much it's a comfort knowing it's here. Even if there's no one around to reply sometimes just typing out how you're feeling in a low moment helps.
It's being able to get your thoughts out , rather than keeping them bottled up. It can be very therapeutic.

I was horrendously lonely for several years before I moved in with my partner and cats. I know exactly what it's like.

I've been shopping and I've come to a nice cafe. It's heaving and I'm sure people are giving me dirty looks because I've got a 3 seat table to myself and they are turning people away as there are no tables left. At least I'm not on a laptop!

I love a solo coffee and a slice of cake.
Nothing to be ashamed of.
I don't have any friends that I would meet for a coffee at the weekend.

I feel like it's real extravagance to go out alone , that I probably can't always afford. It's more justifiable if it's a social occasion with someone.

There's a ladies social Facebook group just started and a lot of the women are saying similar, they don't have people to just meet for coffee. They are organising little meet ups on the group.

I was quite upset this morning when I read the announcement. I didn't realise how much of a support system I find on here.
Same. I was proper panicking. We're all just human and seeing familiar faces, even if they're just profile pictures, does make you feel safe.💙 This thread for example makes me feel safe too. I get most of my daily laughs on here. Of course we shouldn’t overshare too much on here but I’ve really met some amazing people on here so I can’t agree that they’re not real “friends” like BingoFlamingo says though I see your point.

I think that’s understandable. You can feel like you’ve made “friends” on here who have come together in pursuit of a common interest, even though we are all strangers who will never meet.
