She’s posted a long (teary) video about it too. Basically Mike wanted to leave Katnipp this year to start his own business anyway so I guess she’s moving everything back to their house instead of having the big studio.

it doesn't add up...sold out launches, big plans with that massive free printer ( I guess she had a year with that and did nothing, so maybe she just waffles for the camera with "plans" to see if there is interest?) , they just bought that tape thingy Mike was so excited about for saving time in the future. But there is no future? POD means no stock, no packing at home... I just don't get it... maybe she has been pretending to be more successful than she actually was ? Or she did not have her taxes done correctly and got a huge fine maybe??? I would love to hear other peoples theories!
maybe I just see way too much into this.

Basically going to be a ‘personal brand’ doing ‘slow travel’ and be an ‘illustrator’ rather than a manufacturer.

She’s selling the Roland printer she was gifted. They’re handing back the keys to the two offices and converting their garage.

She has a lot of confidence in her characters, hey. I mean, I hope it works out for her but it feels like a kick in the teeth to those that supported her.

Also the melodramatic music on her video. wtf is that all about?

ETA: it all feels very impulsive.

I just came here to post this!

She's out sourcing the manufacturing and saving money on not having 'a studio'. How can she still have The brother and Dean work for her from home........where will they store the stock?
They will go print on demand and have warehouses in China keep and ship the product.

Think she’s had a reality check. This sounds like a sensible decision for her & Katnipp though.
Feel for Mike, hope he finds something else or his channel takes off.

It seems to me she thinks she’s popular enough on YouTube to not have to graft any more. She can fart about making videos with a pink overlay and keep her income whilst churning out low effort colouring books on Amazon KDP.

She’s turned into a narcissist.

turnover and profit are two very different things and I suspect very few of her products have good enough margins to actually make enough profit to 'keep the lights on' I'm guessing she's better at drawing than costing what it actually takes to be profitable. This is what happens when you're driven by ego and attention sadly, seems to happen a lot to these that want the spotlight

I watched the full video (give me a medal) they only made 20k more last year than they did in 2020, which is not really growth when you think of how much their expenses will have gone up during this time period.

I did feel sorry for her when she was talking about how she thought she could slow down when she got pregnant.

She's also in a very niche product field though, with cheap products. The growth and appeal will always have a ceiling.

Bold to compare herself to Beatrix Potter

As I said on here a couple of weeks ago, it’s not a real business and that if she didn’t make some massive changes it would end up in the toilet.

God the music on that vlog. Massive vom. If it’s such a positive decision why all the faux sadness?

She said before that in her first year as a limited company (2015) she made £54k and paid herself £33k. No idea now.

Comparing herself to Beatrix Potter and Sanrio again, those are characters who are unique enough to sell stories.

I'm really not sure what sort of income she is expecting from self publishing children's books. It's competitive and I don't see anyone who is not a katnipp super fan buying them. If she is serious about it she should be looking for a literary agent

The way she was talking made it seem like they'd be shifting everything within 2 months but with the backlog of stuff she has, it'll take months, even years for it to all be gone. She'd be better donating a bunch of it to charity or playgroups, care homes for young children, etc.

I suspect what she's sick of is hard work. Money doesn't just fall into your lap in a niche business like that. It takes time, and dedication, and hard graft. She's losing her trusted worker and doesn't want to step up. That's fair enough. Let's stop whining and book another holiday, shall we?

I wonder if Mike has been steadily getting more and more fed up of holding shop with not even a tape dispenser whilst Catherine and Dean ‘get inspiration’ in Japan.
