Have y'all seen Aussie Insiders' compilations of different attorneys' reactions to things happening in court? I like to fast forward through them to get to Emily. She is hilarious in her reactions. This one is more serious, but I love her explanation at the 20-minute mark of the prosecution's theory. Some of the other compilations are more entertaining.

I'm watching on Court TV, channel 163 on my smart TV. Live from the court, knowledgeable presenters all very closely related to the law, with amazing interviewees, barristers, retired and active judges, police commissionaires etc. Astonishingly strong and biassed opinions voiced (for and against) that would never be allowed in the wishy-washy UK. I watched almost every minute of the first trail and I'm watching as much as I can of this second one.

I think she's guilty, but I think it was a terrible accident, and I think the realization that she'd caused his death niggled away at her and came later. Most women, if their boyfriend goes to a party and doesn't go home, might think he was in bed with another woman, not jump to the conclusion that he's dead in the snow.

I think the conspiracy theory is bull.

I'd like to see KR found guilty of manslaughter a) because I think she is, and b) because she's an arrogant, smirking, publicity-seeking, rabble-rousing, manipulator.

edited: to add smug

edited again: this time to say I watch from the start of the Court day which is 2pm here until I flake out, roundabout now!
Thank God someone else thinks she is likely guilty. I think it was most probably an accident and she didn't realise she did it or she knew she hit him but didn't realise he was badly hurt. The phone temptress data was pretty damming imo.

I know AARCA say they don't think John had been hit by a car but honestly freak accidents happen and I can't imagine it's easy to recreate the circumstances.

The conspiracy theory is just crazy, there is no way a group of that many people is going to keep quiet. So much has been made of people changing phones but so many people do change their phone every year or two especially I think, people with iPhones. The only person who I think acts weirdly is Brian Higgins and the disposal of his phone on an army base but also he is a cop.

I love EDB but was so cross with some of the comments about Jen McCabe and how she was conveniently forgetting things. She has MS (as does Karen) and was on the stand for 2 days. A sympton of MS can be some loss of memory. She is also likely very defensive because of the campaign by Turtle Boy who has obviously been in cahoots with the Read team. I mean if someone was accusing me and my family for killing someone would you be helpful/pally with their lawyers or would you feel personally aggrieved? It especially makes me cross in EDBs chat and remember her mentioning Karen's various illnesses and how the chat should take this into consideration before judging her...

The defence must be kicking themselves for letting Karen do all these media interviews. She won't testify and the Commonweath can bring in anything that she says that incriminates her. They thought they had the result in the bag last trial and have scored an own goal.

The investigation was totally ducked and I don't think John or his family will get justice. Honestly I just feel awful for John's parents and his niece and nephew. They have all been through so much.

I think the interviews were a terrible idea. Most likely done as they thought it was definitely going to be a not guilty verdict and what they’ve ended up with is this footage coming out during the retrial. I don’t think Karen comes across as a likeable person but it’s not down to whether she’s liked or not.

Yesterday’s mess up with the shoe and Bukhenik’s testimony is just another example of how bad this case has been from start to finish.

Conspiracy wise… it really only needs a few people and it’s coming from the top down. Jen McCabe seems to have put herself in the middle of everything - 200 deleted calls in the space of that couple of days is sus AF. Also the text about “if she pleads it will go away if she doesn’t it will be an episode” before there was ever an arrest made.

I go by Occam’s razor the simplest answer is the right answer in general but there’s always an exception to the rule. So far the commonwealth still hasn’t proven it beyond a reasonable doubt. The fact ARCCA went to the extent of building a cannon and still couldn’t replicate anything to suggest John was hit by a car was enough for me.

It wasn’t 200 deleted calls though, it was the calls that ‘fell off’ the recent history because it only holds 200 at a time. So she received and made more than the record could hold during those 3 days that the system deleted them off the recent history.

If you delete a call from the call log an earlier one takes its place though, it stores a lot more than 200 in CallHistory.storedata.db
There were calls to John O’Keefe between 12:29 and 12:50 that disappeared. Jen McCabe said it was 1 call but there were 7 and if it had just been butt dials there would have been voicemails with them like the one where you could hear Karen’s car reverse sensors then her walking into the garage.
Jen McCabe is the common denominator in a lot of parts of this. Like when she went to tell Erin Beatty to shut her mouth or put a fool in it because she was saying Colin Albert asked for a ride from Fairview that night.
I don’t understand why she’d be involved like that or asking for screenshots of messages etc if she had nothing to do with any of it.

She's a nosey busybody, that's why. She should have admitted to being one when she was giving evidence, but she may not be self-aware to recognise that's that's what she is.

Bukhenik is absolutely awful. Surely detrimental to the CW.
He’s so smug and smarmy. That comment about how English is his third language - if it’s that bad how did you function working in the USMC with presidential helicopters?
You’d think he’d show more decorum when this is about a fallen fellow officer.

I’ve given up watching with Emily, way too much of her talking. I loved her previously but not so much now. Trying a lady called Melanie Little now. Any other recs of lives to watch?

Andrea Burkhardt and Uncivil Law are streaming. I like EDB, but will also pop over to those two. I tried Melanie Little, but cannot stand her much anymore, she is too witchy for me.

Not lives but "Lawyer You Know" does great round ups at the end of each day. I find him quite easy on the eye too..

I’ll give them a look, thank you. These texts are very tedious to listen to 😭😭

Only when he’s being questioned by the clown AJ. He knows what AJ is trying to do and he’s not back down on it, good on him I say.
AJ is just doing what defense attorneys do. It would be nice if we could say the same for these investigators. Normally in the US, when a fellow officer dies, they go above and beyond to be precise and meticulous. If you ran a proper investigation, the questions would be really easy to answer.

Defense attorneys can question witnesses without being condescending jerks. Even if Bukenik is being one, AJ shouldn’t lower himself to do it back.
AJ is trying to make people on the stand perjure other witnesses. I actually don’t know why the Judge is allowing it.
