I binged it earlier today when I should have been working. It was really unsettling, creepy, well executed.
But one of my main takeaways was that Coogan will never get laid again after this. I wouldn’t be able to not see him as Savile. Partridge was bad enough! Shame for a man who is a known shagger.

Coogan’s acting is uncanny - especially when you see him walking from the back and he’s talking at the same time, you’d swear it was genuinely Savile - he has the walk, posture, mannerisms, voice - all down to a tee.

Yes Coogan started on Spitting Image whilst at drama school, he’s always been a mimic.

Im fascinated by the Saville documentary. They say on the introduction that they want to make sure no one else can get away with this kind of behaviour ever again. I hope that they are right.
The dangers of the man, and the way he was able to hide in plain sight was and is scary.
Saville always creeped me out, from his earliest Jim'll fix it days. It was fairly obvious he was insincere, and I never got why anyone liked him, or used him to front TV shows. As I got older I realised he was a letch as well. But I didnt realise until his death quite how awful his behaviour had been.
The Reckoning is an awful show in many ways, but I do think a lot of people should be watching it. To make people think, to make people talk and to stop people like Saville getting away with this kind of behaviour.

It wouldn't surprise me though if Russell Brand will somehow get away with the grape and SA allegations that have emerged very recently.
The Brand thing makes me sad, because it’s clear we’ve learned nothing, as a society some will stick up for celebrities even if the truth is clear and unavoidable. Back then it was Jimmy ‘doing so much good’ with friends in high places and no-one wanted to be ‘that person’, or they simply thought no one would believe them.

I agree. I think it's right that it's been made. It keeps the subject in the public eye and let's people explore how this happened ( mainly adulation of celebrity figures which is questioned more now). I'm not saying the victims adulated him but the public and charities etc did which made it difficult for him to be challenged.

Things have changed a lot since he was operating as an untouchable predator, younger people will be aghast at parents leaving their kids alone with him but back then it was fine. See also Gary Glitter.

For me, JS was Jim’ll Fix it. My sat night tv. As a Leeds girl he was a local hero for many years. And even tho as an adult i had read about what he did, i never knew half of it.

Gosh. I didn’t even know that he was “known “ for doing this while he was alive. I thought it only came to light after he died.
My understanding is that it was known for years before he died. A lot of victims tried to reported it, but because they had come from ‘difficult’ backgrounds they weren’t believed. Also added to the fact that other abusers that were exposed in operation Yewtree were people in ‘authority’ so allegations/reports were all brushed under the carpet so to speak. Just dreadful what those victims went through & then not to be believed must of been harrowing.
I think Steve Coogan is creepier than we remember Saville, because we actually know what he was up to and what he was doing, so the harrowing things are emphasised!
Having lived through the period of Saville and co, I think it was a different time for what was permissable!
Men were ''allowed'' to grope women, and grab bums and bits....almost openly. Of course many were appalled, but some found it funny or amusing for men to ''appreciate'' women like this. Think of shows like Benny Hill...where he openly gawped at sexy women and chased them!
I detested this attitude, and none of my friends were like this, but I was aware of this attitude, and things like being groped on the bum on the tube etc.
( but then again, I have also been groped in some overseas countries, when wearing shorts in a hot country, and my younger friend was groped in India recently...so its not just a UK thing! its the sort of thing that is tiresome, but not technically illegal)
I thought Saville was grubby, and a letch, but I didnt realise he forced so many unwilling children, and that he was into so many young girls thats what makes his behaviour so unforgivable.
I think part of its a power thing, like Weinstein..... power corrupts, especially if you are making a lot of money for someone else! So normal standards are ....sidelined or overlooked. And proper safeguarding is overlooked.
Stuff like Benny Hill was normal in the 70's it was regarded as "a bit of a laugh". Office banter often included men making lewd comments about women's breasts and bottoms. The office lech pinching girls bottoms was ",a bit of a laugh". I always found Savile creepy, cold and obnoxious but the extent of his depravity is beyond belief.

Im a child of the 80s so Jim’ll Fix it was a big deal back then - we’d talk about it next day at school. I had classmates who wrote in but I never did. JS didn’t bother me as such when I was small but as I got older I thought that something wasn’t quite right…just never put my finger on it until it all came out.
What baffles me is the fact that politicians, execs and people in the NHS thought that giving a “celeb” Carte Blanche to go where he wanted, when he wanted, someone who wasn’t remotely medically qualified in any specialty…giving him access to the most vulnerable in society…what in the actual duck? Because he flashed the cash?
I’d like to say lessons have been learnt from Savile but as in the NHS and the broadcasting world, sexual predators are still able to act how they please and victims are not listened to or taken seriously.
The fact that the celeb whose secrets won’t come out until they’re dead shows you exactly what’s been learnt by those in the know…absolutely duck all. Shame on all of them. Bunch of paedophile apologist bleeps.

Ah yes but what about the parents who left their kids at Michael Jacksons house that was what the 90's? seems people get starstruck and are happy to leave their kids with any famous person.
