I've been here since thread 1, slagging off Jay the thug and his idiotic crowd, but that poster is right. People WANT to donate.
Someone said it's wrong to "profit off a child's death" (referring to Australian kid). What a weird way to put it. People want to donate to these people to try and make life a bit easier. People receive compensation for all kinds of bad things that happen. Do you disagree with that because it's profiting off an accident? Yes, most people have to pay for everything without any help - does that mean that's the way it should be? It's not a race to the bottom.
Why don't "the disgusted" among you start some threads about other missing people and try to get them some traction? Or raise some money for the people suffering hardship? You know the reason Jay's GoFundMe is still increasing is because people like us are still here discussing it?

I saw a plaque that had just been displayed in a crematorium rose garden and the year was wrong. I didn't know the person but I knew the year was wrong as it hadn't happened yet. Clearly the family noticed as when I next went there it had been unstuck and taken away.

Just to say that donation to medical science isn't always accepted, worth checking out the HTA website. It's a massively generous offer to make....knowing my luck I'd get turned down and couldn't handle that level of rejection

My mum wanted to do this but she ended up sadly having multiple organ failure due to suicide and they would not accept her . Her 2nd choice was as cheap a send off as possible so that is what we ended up doing . This LBT group, do they need to be asked to post about missing people? I find it strange how only now they are posting about the guy missing since 12th july, not helpful at all imo. Another set of grifters. I’m sure they have given a nice invoice to Debs for a few posts and press releases
Ok folks what new debacle will happen today, the story of a young man dying in the mountains would normally be treated with respect, however Jay and his family have turned it into a circus, Deb the Dimwit asking for even more money has shown the world that she is a money grabbing witch.
She might want to give him a great send off, perhaps if she is feeling guilty for her lack of parenting…Nah, she is just unconscionable she doesn’t have the where with all for self reflection. Jay didn’t stand a chance.

Yea I get that people have children that die everyday but her son went missing and it was turned into an absoloute media circus globally to the point it’s got its own tattle thread? Couldn’t imagine the long standing trauma his mum will deal with when she comes round from the shock of everything and her son being dead. It’s absolutely shocking the things that have been said and done. I’m just a NORMAL human being with some compassion. I hope the woman can pay of her mortgage and doesn’t have to face going back to work. Imagine how she’s going to walk down a street now with everyone’s opinions. So what if she’s removed her nail polish and had her roots done? How do you known her friend hasn’t offered to do her hair to take her mind of things for a hour? Crazy behaviour threads like this about people who have gone missing. Why don’t you all train and join the police force?

I also don't have any issue with people requesting donations where they are needed. Eg. He's missing and money is required to pay search teams/his recovery. In the end the guardia civil found his remains and retrieved them. This didn't cost anything. It would've been nice to see a small donation to them for all the work they did.
We could say maybe they have been given a donation by the family and it's not our business what they do with the gfm money but I think it's the responsibility of the fundraiser to give a breakdown of costs.
Now, they are grieving a lost son/brother. No matter who they are this is one of the worst losses and those of us who don't experience anything like it are truly lucky. I'm sure the last thing on the family's mind right now is proving where the money has gone. Begs the question why ask for more? This is the one thing I can't get my head around. Why do they need more money?
I think gfm really need to start being more strict, they should be asking for receipts to prove the money raised on their site has been used according the to fundraiser. In this case for the search and retrieval of Jay. Then for the repatriation and funeral. That's fair. Anything left over should be refunded with each donor receiving a percentage of their original donation.
The gfms should also automatically be closed as soon as the goal amount is raised.
One thing I have been wondering about is whether the request for more money has come from Debbie/the family?
I wonder if the gfm updates are actually being written by a representative.
Also the nails have probably fallen or been picked off let's face it.
With the holiday insurance I feel like to avoid negative publicity they would pay up out occasions like this.

Yea it is wrong to profit off a death. Insurance paying out on an accident is different. It’s to cover costs for the future, loss of earnings, hardship of life etc. We lost a child in our family very horrifically and another member was extremely injured. The insurance explained the amount for a death is substantially lower because they don’t put an amount of pain and suffering for grief, it’s purely to cover costs of disability/hardship as a result of injuries if you live (cruel but that’s how it is). Once funeral costs are paid, that’s it, that’s all insurance would cover (in jays case repatriation aswell) so it is essentially profiting from a tragedy. So yea getting crazy amounts to have some big fanfare, a holiday in the sun, all the other rit they might want is bollix. Gofundme’s need to auto shut off when the target is hit. One of my absolute pet hates, being slightly smaller in stature, I often find myself watching a concert through the back of somebody's bloody phone... I honestly don't get it, let's get tickets to go and see a band and then watch it through our phone

Rant over I agree that GFM need to be stricter, it’s like a free for all for anyone that’s got enough of a brass neck to feather their nests, usually as a result of something horrible happening. Charities have to break down their expenses, the same should be expected of anyone setting up a GFM.
However if people still want to donate despite the media circus/adverse attention etc with no idea what that money is actually being used for (hint it’s a new Gucci bag) then more fool them, fools and their money are easily parted as they say

People can choose to donate but I think the requests for funds can be very emotionally manipulative and also not used for what was stated. They don’t stop or tell people when they have reach the required amount. They carry on accepting donations and don’t tell people what will happen with the extra money.
How many people would donate if the request was ‘please donate so I never have to work again or so I can go on a luxury holiday’.
Anyway if you think this is bad you should check out the gofundme scammers thread. The mother of a 5 year old who died of cancer (who had already exploited her child’s privacy for multiple GFMs) set up a brand new gofundme and posted on Instagram asking for donations just 18 hours after he had died. His own mother.
How many people would donate if the request was ‘please donate so I never have to work again or so I can go on a luxury holiday’.
