I would imagine the body is not in a state that would allow for his parents to see him. Not to mention the smell 🤢 the fact he had to be identified by fingerprints (thankfully already on file 🤣) would suggest the body is in a right mess

People do visit loved ones when they’ve been deceased for a while, it’s not that unusual, he can be covered and treatments for smell etc. Even just sitting next to him and talking can be comforting.

Yes, but in this case he fell from what seems a considerable height too, can only guess at the damage caused. You can only cover up so much.

I am amazed the search dogs picked up Jay’s trail from the B&B after so long when numerous people have walked all over the scene. I know dogs have brilliant scenting powers but surely the scent dissipates after 2 weeks?

Sure, but she specified she wanted to see him, not just sit in the same room as bones covered with a sheet. I think she doesn't believe it's him and thinks seeing him will confirm it, but it likely isn't going to look remotely comparable to him at this point.

I mean covered by a sheet, she won’t be asking to ‘see’ him exactly
I think she was, sure i saw something about her wanting to touch his face? (Might have imagined it though). Who knows tbh 🤷‍♀️, nothing would surprise me at this point!

They let you touch over the sheet, it sounds like she was talked through this process already to me.

She should be grateful, saying they wanted one last time to see him - it wouldn't be him you were seeing, it stopped being him a long time ago. You wouldn't ever get over the trauma of what they'd actually see now.

They've clearly completely got it in for the Spanish police, I think they believe there's alot they aren't telling them and tbh I think that's possibly the case.
So Debbie couldn't search for fear of discovering Jay...yet also wanted to view Jay after he was found?
I had initially thought Debbie could not search due to her previously broken leg but then as time went on and there wasn't even a visit to the AirBnB, a known location, where Jay had been, it did not make sense. Now Debbie is viewing drone footage of Jay's last journey...as a parent, I just can't understand it!

It is a heartbreaking conversation/decision to tell a grieving family that viewing is not possible. You can never take the shock/impact away and know your job is to 'protect' the grieving family. No professional makes the decision lightly.
The Jay that the family remember and even imagine in death is not the post mortem Jay who spent a month down a ravine.

It certainly makes no sense but nothing related to that family does tbh. Won't go searching for her son, even when he still had the potential of being alive, or hadn't been dead long, because she doesn't want to find him dead but wants to see his body after a significant fall and a month of decomposing in a ravine in the heat? Maybe she has changed her mind because she does need the closure, but she won't get it at this point and they are doing this to protect her. I completely understand wanting to say goodbye to him and see him one more time, but sadly it would only cause her distress that could honestly end you it would be so traumatic.

It could have been cadaver dogs, but it could have been dogs to smell for technology (to help locate his phone). I'd shared a post saying my uncle (he trains police dogs) was training some who could track digital devices specifically.

We don't know which kind of sniffer dog was out assisting the search and rescue team. As far as I can understand, they can find recently deceased all the way up to skeletal remains and in all sorts of different environments.

Feel for the poor doggies working in that awful terrain and in such a great heat, their wee paw pads will have been burnt and torn to shreds.

Debbie didn’t get to see him after all
What would there be to see, in my professional opinion this is the absolutely right decision, no mother/father should ever see their child after this length of time, in the UK they would never be allowed. This would be the same with extensive damage to a body in a road collision/bomb blast etc it just would not be allowed. There is no mental health professional in the world who could help a parent or loved one get over that sight. They think they can imagine it but they can’t, the trauma on what will be left of the remains will be so vast, so severe and just so devastating that the image would never leave them. Holding onto the memories of a smiling happy child or loved one is the absolute answer. And no amount of embalming would change it. Once a body has decomposed to that degree the best advice I would give to Debbie Dimwhit would be to hold a seance or get out a ouija board

If he grabbed the charger, why was he on 1%?
I'm assuming he didn't stay long enough to get a full charge since they were asked to move the car and then he decided it was time to boost.

I'm always telling my kids not to wait until their battery is almost dead to charge their devices. Then they sit with them plugged in, continuing to use them while they are still trying to charge them 🙄.

If Jay was using his phone for sending Snapchats before he left, then for phone calls to friends and using his location for Maps while he went off-road, then what little battery he had left will have drained much more quickly.

When he contacted Lucy it was to say he had no charge left, I'm not even sure how he managed to make a phone call if it was at 1% 🫤🙁.

Maybe he was an iPhone user, my android phones have always had a much better battery than any iPhone I've owned. They are set up to go into battery saving mode and I can be on 4% for a while if I'm stuck without a charger, as long as my location and Bluetooth aren't switched on (battery saving mode prevents this usually too).

Also this might be useful to share if anyone isn't aware but I'm sure a lot of you are.

You can share your active location on WhatsApp, on androids you go to the little paperclip beside the send button and select "location". It will use your location and you can choose to share your "live location" for 15 mins, 1 hour or 8 hours.

My friend did this years ago when my phone had died and he was contacting friends to collect us when he was too pished to get into the dancing. They shared theirs on WhatsApp too and It meant we could see them coming in the car.

I often ask Mr. soupmodel to do this when he's returning from site visits and has a very long drive so I can give the kids an idea of when he will be home without having to call him during his drive.

If anyone is ever really lost and doesn't know where they are, you can use the What3Words website/app. Put your location on and press the wee location icon in the middle. It's mapped for the entire world and gives a unique 3 word code for that specific a 3 metre by 3 metre area. Emergency services would be able to look for that specific three word location too. It's a wonderful invention.

If Jay had been savvy enough to do this and had stayed in one place (and not passed out due to dehydration/heatstroke etc.), he may have actually been rescued by the emergency services 🫤.

I know this is really morbid but I don’t watch true crime documentaries or anything, I think the only reason I have been glued to this case is the comedy gold and wild speculation.

Anyway, if as previously said if his body is basically a skeleton now how do they transport it home? Do they keep it as one or do they like put all your bones together in a bag or something because surely if it’s that decomposed they’re going to break easily.

Sorry if this is insensitive to anyone my mind has been wondering all week

Very useful post (sadly a useful post that will never be of use to Jay). But I didn't know about the WhatsApp location thing and wouldn't have even considered using what 3 words for myself, I use it for deliveries!
Good to know if I'm ever lost up a mountain after a wild night out.

At that point folks are putting the menthol paste under their noses and wearing gowns as to not to pick up the smell. Would I want to see my bubba like that? Maybe, but I think I brought you into the world, I want to see you go out. However, it would maybe destroy me and my life so ... I dunno. I've sat with dead relatives, my family hunt and I've stripped animal carcasses for food, I'm not squeamish. I'm a country gal. I think I'd want to see but that's just my opinion.

We've no idea who Debbie is or what she's going through. I can find her money seeking repugnant but I can't judge her for wanting to see him. She's maybe never seen a body/ creature 3 weeks dead and exposed and she has no idea what she's asking for.

Hey, morbid true crime fan here 👋

In a special container, possibly chilled, marked "human remains/handle with extreme caution". They will be placed in the back cargo hold of the plane, surrounded by other people's luggage. It will be more frequent than holidaymakers realise.

Would be much cheaper to have someone cremated and then send their ashes home, never mind all the appropriate paperwork and documentation.

If you've ever been sat on a runway in the plane at landing and haven't been sure why... That could be it.

I've heard about this, I sometimes teach an English for logistics course and a lot of the students work at the local airport. They tell stories about difficult cargos like bodies, live horses etc. It's a big hassle, with lots of paperwork, but they do it with respect and care.
