Also, anyone who has volunteered in a soup kitchen / homeless charity will tell you it’s not all gentle loveliness and grateful clients telling you how wonderful you are - it can be a really challenging environment, things can get uncomfortable and even violent, because obviously you are dealing with people who may have drug or alcohol problems and often quite serious mental health issues too.

Jason’s little vignette here doesn’t have time for any of that, of course. The point of the story is purely to puff him up. What a saint!

I think you'll find they sat and cherished the humble repast!

Yep, it's the Jack Monroe brothel story all over again isn't it. His fanciful idea of something he knows nothing about in reality.

What is it with these people?

He's just so endlessly fascinated with himself.

What he has done is damaging. It raises unrealistic hope and expectations in parents of non verbal children. It’s cruel. I do not have an ounce of sympathy for any of the backlash he is getting.
I totally agree. That's the truly awful thing about what he has done.

I also feel sorry for the students whom he lectured or those who completed qualifications under his supervision. Plus, I don't know how appointments to roles in third level institutions, work, but presumably other actually qualified people lost out to this man? Cambridge University has an awful lot to answer for too, imo.

Forgot to add, he also now has SEVERE epilepsy (diagnosed in chapter 19) due to being SEVERELY beaten by the four youths at the bus stop (in chapter 17) despite his polite questioning of their intentions, View attachment 4086758and who he later (in chapter 19) selflessly requested the CPS not give custodial sentences.

Now in chapter 21 he also has dyslexia significant underlying difficulties of the type associated with individuals who are described as dyslexic. Handily disgnosed by a fella with perfect recollection of 15+ years before and yet more inspirational words for our young barely literate hero.

"Do you need some money for an emergency" made me proper LOL. Were those his first words after a childhood of SEVERE mutism?

Apologies for bombing the thread. THE BRASS BALLS ON THIS FUCKER!!!

(This is a mere five lines after he’s a pool shark and just over a page after the dyslexia doc with perfect recollection of him and Ma Giff).

Surely he must realise that he is making things more difficult for black academics with his "Is it because I am Black?" stance?

Though I imagine that he's so fascinated with himself that he doesn't consider the effect on anyone else, unless they are there to worship him.

I’m losing the will to live screenshotting the last couple of chapters from his stroke to his viva to his Cambridge appointment, so I’ll post those tomorrow. In the meantime tho, as we’ve all been waiting so patiently, here’s the Epilogue, where, at long, long last, EVERYBODY CLAPS AND CHEERS and Jase dedicates words of wisdom to us, one and all. And no, the purpose of The Great and Unfortunate Things Playlist* is never made apparent.

*brought to you by Diesel flared jeans and Savile Row.
Thank you @Valiofthedolls for your trojan work.

I had to stop reading last night because I couldn't plough - or as our hero might say - 'plow' through all of that. Will be catching up today. Thank you!

"My purpose is greater than my own need"

He'd be hilarious comedy figure if it wasn't for the fact that he has conned others out of jobs, made trouble for students questioning his teaching, and threatened any critics with the police.

Exactly, and when you're in danger of being mugged, you wouldn't calmly ask something like that. And in the threat of danger, your mind doesn't worry about your assailant!

If he said he was spluttering things like "you in trouble!?" I might believe him. Well I wouldn't believe him, but I'd believe someone else, maybe.

🙄 Now in his second year of university (and chapter 22), he’s going to become a Dad. Not that you could tell…

Seriously, has anyone ever seen him and Jessica Taylor in the same room?

That's so much like one of her amazing discoveries about psychology - did you know that past experiences can affect how people feel in the present?

His fundraiser for the marathons is still up. He raised just over £6k. But apparently despite him not having any idea how to go about sponsorship, according to an article in the Richmond and Twickenham Times: ‘If Mr Arday, of Clapham, reaches his target he will have raised £100,000 for various charities since he started fundraising at 17.’

And anyone who believed they would cordon off Piccadilly for one bloke doing a self organised run is more gullible than that woman who hired him at Cambridge.

I’m focusing on the marathon tit becuase it‘s the only thing that isn’t making me absolutely furious about his lies.
Thank you for the screenies dearest @Valiofthedolls - sterling effort ❤

Maybe I glazed over but I don't remember this possibly fictional homeless school friend being in his book?

Is transitioning going to be the next stage in his Incredible Journey?

This is obvious bull. You can’t just get a road closed in central London, least of all at the heart of the west end. You need to apply months in advance, you need permission from both Westminster Council and TfL, there’s a fee to pay (thousands of £), and you need to provide a traffic management plan with your application. It would only be granted for a major public event, or for major construction works etc.
Pics from Jason’s event show a few people who’ve set up a fake finishing line on the pavement. That’s all.

Alex Edmans on X (a Prof whose background is truly excellent) found the advert for the role Arday was given.

A few random observations:
Key requirement for a candidate was to have outstanding research record of international standing.
Hard to see how anyone can stretch JA's presenting credentials to satisfy this.

Re. the amount of research awards for the whole dept. This looked light to me so maybe his attration was they could use him as DEI funding rainmaker

Requirement to be resident in Cambridge in term time. Did he move there? Or squat at his mum's house & commute?

"I got into the habit of learning three to five things about each student"

Excellent, he'd obviously learnt that from the great Dr Dr Jack Monroe! Didn't she have a job interview where she was the only one special enough to know the name of the cleaning lady?

I am willing to bet he is so up himself that he doesn't think he's done anything wrong. I wonder if he resigned just to escape the heat and will be back grifting in a year or two. I don't think for a minute he thinks of the talented black (or any) students who could have got his job, I don't think he will ever understand he's caused harm.

Doesn't this just show how VERY SPECIAL he's always thought he was? We've all worked in supermarkets (or similar) - it's just a job, it's not a uniquely humbling experience, it's what people do to earn money! FFS.

I feel sorry for Debs with him gambling away their savings on a pool win, expecting easy money. Poor Jason, having to get a "humbling" job.

"a refuse collector by day (or as he put it "I collect the bins Jase)

There's another few words for the word count!

He's such a condescending snob. The way he writes about allegedly working in retail and other people who do similar jobs.

It is very typical of academics, tbf.

I didn't have to lie to get my job, Jason.
