To be fair, Labour had no hope of winning any seats so they would have just wanted any name to put on the ballot paper. Anyone reasonably sentient would have done, this is really common.

Like the time Jack was going to stand for the NHA party (after, iirc, Labour told her to duck off) but didn't for 'reasons'.
But I still think it’s personally significant. I mean he was a member of the Labour Party. He would have gone out canvassing or at the very least spoken to press. And why Croydon?

It’s just weird not to mention it at all. In an autobiography

I'd like a little more detail please. When he got home, and went to wash his hands after the journey, did he turn on the hot tap or cold tap first? Was there soap - stuff that you use to wash your hands, it comes in bars or in bottles with a squeezey lid that you press to release the soap - and if so, what brand? Details, people. Details are important. 😉
Guest has a soap recipe....

He’s the one Jase threw under the bus in that interview he did with The Times, claiming ‘inadequate supervision’ was the reason his PhD was rife with plagiarism. (IIRC correctly he also claims there or elsewhere they barely met?)

“Inadequate supervision” is not quite the way he tells it in his book tho. View attachment 4088858His ghostwriter must have misunderstood.
Exactly - there's an inconsistent narrative about *Big Phil*. Actually the only consistent thing is the inconsistency.

Think Big Phil supported him for appointment as a sports/ed lecturer at LJM. JA's claim that he had to obtain his PhD by a certain date to keep that job confuses me. In a genuine, verifiable medical situation I assume you would seek support from the Union if the Uni were unreasonable?

If Big Phil also took on the supervision of a plucky underdog candidate lecturer he had championed it would be in his interest to be effective in that supervision. Very unfortunate to be taken so ill overnight and have to absent yourself from the viva.

Too much handclasping going on.

Working at Sainsbury's a humbling experience. Who the **** does this entitled ***** think he is? Realistically he's of average to below average capability and his entitlement is extreme.

Absolutely, I've been thinking about that too. I'm Gen X, brought up in a rough and ready way emotionally. I knew I was loved but it was shown in actions, rarely words. I was not encouraged to dwell on slights or show anything that might invite pity and was also discouraged from "showing off" or having a big head. Stoicism was the way to go. As you say, that approach could be improved on but there's been such a sharp over-correction that I find it disorienting sometimes dealing with younger people, and it's the main source of that "generation gap" feeling with my own kids. There's a real conversation to be had there.
Agreed. Everyone wants to be special and unique and feel they matter, but that’s now how life is (of course in your immediate family/friends you want to feel like you matter, but outside of that no one cares.) I think a lot of a lot of social things stem from wanting the world to be different, and tying yourself up in knots over it, rather than just accepting things as they are. People would be a lot happier if they stopped fighting the natural order of things ans just accepted it.
