Ireland Hate Speech Law

The law is ridiculous, definitely intrusive and subjective as you say and would likely be based solely on the ‘law enforcer’s’ opinion at the end of the day! Surely the whole revealing your passwords and granting someone access to your devices is a huge invasion of privacy?? I can understand it in the case of a murder, assault, serious harassment, etc., but over a joke or a meme? 🙄

Aside from the question of whether we actually need this or not, it's a really badly written law. The Attorney general advised against defining hate because it would make it more difficult to secure prosecutions so there is no definition of what hate means. Basically there's no definition of what they're making illegal so how do you know what does or doesn't cross the line. It's too subjective.

It’s only to try and silence those speaking out against the government’s ridiculous policies, they can’t even police the streets never mind the internet, where are they going to lock people up? Prisoners are on early release because prisons are full to the brim , those they’re hoping to silence won’t care about any bill they’ve probably got conviction’s as long as your arm , taking action against them will only serve to push them higher in people’s estimates, a martyr to the cause!

💯…The Irish gov would get their eyes opened if they saw how hate is dealt with in NI ,they’d be much better addressing the concerns of the people instead of trying to shut them down , essentially doing a great job at pushing people the wrong way and creating a bigger problem 🙄

Presumably as it's such a subjective law it'll be used infrequently when it them suits. Open to such misuse.

It might scare off a couple of the very mild moderate people. Like every time an influencer goes on a BS rant that police are tracking everyone on tattle and will soon make arrests 🙄, like they have since 2018 to no avail 😆

Don’t think Irish people are easily intimidated by government threats .if anything they’ll push back harder…it’s already trending 😂

They seem to be going beyond the hate speech bill and looking at an online safety code.

In contrast this is how the PSNI deal with hate crimes.

Surprise! Surprise! It’s the EU calling the shots, exactly what people have a problem with 🙄 people will go to ground and make it 10 times harder to monitor what’s going on.

The government frightened the electorate into signing in the Lisbon treaty. Vote Lisbon for jobs was the slogan, after we voted against it. Shortly after it was voted in, we lost hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Now they are flooding the country with migrants as ordered by their bosses in the EU. Anyone who questions it are apparently far right racists.
The majority of us aren't anti migrant, just anti uncontrolled, unvetted migrant.

Haven’t they got an opt out clause under the Lisbon treaty? Talk about putting the cart before the horse, want 10million migrants to bump up the pension fund but nowhere to put them.

I thought we gave up all opout clauses. I need to go back and study it. It's been a while.
Not many of us have a problem with people coming here and working and contributing to the system. But letting people in with one arm as long as the other, with no intention of ever working is pretty galling.
We need to stop blowing up their countries, and robbing their resources, and make them nice places to live, then there won't be any refugees.

I don’t think that works on dictatorships , regardless…We can’t house the whole world we should be investing in our own young people and workforce, cheap foreign labour only keeps wages suppressed and the knockon felt throughout society.

This should be reversed, we shouldn’t be letting our professionals leave to make other countries thrive then bringing in cheap labour to train up in their place.

Look, what is the point in studying, and getting a good job, if you can't afford to buy a house? Why bust your arse to pay rent. Most of your wages will go to rent a house. You'd be better off on the dole now in lreland. Rent paid, medical card, fuel allowance, back to school allowance.

Is she right ? She lives in the north and pushes black heritage??? Even uses kids to push for open borders on the island of Ireland and the teaching of black history in schools when 99.9 % of NI is white and only recently allowed to learn of their own history.

Ireland have had migrants for decades without issue, implementing hate speech laws won’t stop people’s frustrations of having their homeland destabilised by mass immigration, Ukraine are complaining too many of their citizens have left ( 5mill) their economy is suffering , send back the hundred thousand in Ireland and free up some accommodation for those in need.
