Mutha-hood also rode the wave with the Strong Girls Club merchandise, but as ultimately she’s so likeable her brand seems to be growing and growing. Despite having all the makings of someone I usually recoil from I can’t help but like her and find her really endearing. I don’t like Selfish Mother, just doesn’t have the same like ability for meI’m so glad this thread exists. I’ve followed similar threads on Mumsnet with a bag of popcorn, but the moderation is so heavy handed it’s ridiculous. Glad people are allowed to be a bit more... forthright here.
I want to talk about Selfish Mother. Not strictly a freebie seeking, cliquey, typical Instamum, but she definitely ticks a lot of Instamum boxes - white, middle class, privileged, former journalist turned small business owner, ex-London moved out to the sticks, yadda yadda.
Like someone on the last thread, I bought a couple of sweatshirts but am now too embarrassed to leave the house with MOTHER emblazoned across my chest. And it seems like I’m not the only one, because new product launches seem to be few and far between, they keep sending me discount codes (plus follow up emails when I don’t bite!), and they’ve just closed their bricks and mortar shop in Bruton.
Wasn’t opening a shop a risky move in the first place? Why take a successful online shop and decide that what you really need as a business are massive overheads, salaries for shop floor staff and free Prosecco on Fridays? I know they tried to make it an event space and hosted talks featuring prominent Instamums, but I don’t think it was as successful as anticipated - probably because speakers and potential attendees aren’t so inclined to trek out to deepest Somerset. And then they spent money on a vast mural saying GOOD LIFE which was a great backdrop for Insta selfies but otherwise a really pointless, self-indulgent thing to do.
And then the Insta account turned into a ‘zine, which was an interesting concept I guess, and featured writing from high-tier Instamums (also THAT naked toilet selfie from CT because it was so amazing and raw and empowering and... ) but, ultimately, I couldn’t understand how they made actual money from it. And I couldn’t be arsed to read any of it because A) my inattentive ADHD brain couldn’t handle it and B) it was primarily the same old navel gazing middle class mum drivel.
I think SM was so successful initially because it found itself in the right place at the right time, and rode the wave of Instamum success at the same time as a lot of influencers, but the wheels are falling off and that seems symptomatic of the way people are sick of Instamum #content in general.
I’m sure I saw her doing something with Gi Fletcher who is involved in Coppafeel so maybe she got that opportunity through her? I’ve also seen a lot smaller accounts doing more ads - I think some companies are now doing more research to use organic accounts who haven’t bought followers or who have certain levels of engagement etc rather than purely going on follower numbersCan anyone explain to me how inpo seems to be forging a career out of this? She gets invited to a lot of the press stuff, advertising deals but only has 40k and seems fairly slow growing yet she seems to get more than other accounts similar size or bigger and just seen she’s just got a place on the trek for coppafeel? Does she approach companies or ended up in the right click so they find her through them?
She is so not honest - another one that is ceasing celeb life. All the styled by, every meal out is a freebie. She really is just shocking. What about the Honest mum? Claims to be so honest, awful at labelling ads, shady about gifted and her kids always look soooooo miserable/ embearrsed in photos while she is just loving herself crazy!
Yes, for a campaigning platform it is a shame that Mumsnet are so reluctant to allow open talk about these influencers and their shady goings on. Wonder if it has anything to do with the advertising revenue?I’m so glad this thread exists. It is all about who you know. Instagram is one big MLM thing in real life. Can anyone explain to me how inpo seems to be forging a career out of this? Possibly, it has been know though Justine has been in amongst the instamums, even cash caraway revealed some personal emails from her a while back so she's involved with them somehow.Yes, for a campaigning platform it is a shame that Mumsnet are so reluctant to allow open talk about these influencers and their shady goings on. It's not a good look for Mumsnet to be seen to be courting Instagrammers just as we are all starting to see right through them.Possibly, it has been know though Justine has been in amongst the instamums, even cash caraway revealed some personal emails from her a while back so she's involved with them somehow.
I stopped using mumsnet as they were just deleting unnecessary posts, and leaving ones that should have been deleted. The threads got to the point where they were impossible to read as half the posts were deleted. Yet troll threads were allowed to stand for hours. Plus some of the posters were just too intolerant for anything they didn't want to read about.
I said this on another thread......not so well but yes I agree- I was taken aback when she chastised people for copying her brand? Mum/dad/mama etc on a jumper - last I heard that wasn’t her idea? And she defo hasn’t trademarked? I was so taken aback? I gave my one jumper away! I actually think the concept of a space for mums/merch/talks etc was a good idea but where on earth is Bruton? And why would I go there, even if I wanted to- how could I afford it? Very random! But yay for her- such an amazing champagne socialist, raises money for the poor and needy whilst screwing you over with £50 jumpers that most people can’t afford!I’m so glad this thread exists. I can’t stand muthahood- she’s another one like inpo and spikeymama who is sssooooo cringe about how much she loves everyone- Erica Davies spoke to her once don’t you know and it was an experience like no other- seriously???!! Your life is made because ED spoke to you- get a grip, strong girls club? Well why don’t you teach yourself, your children and other people that everyone is their equal- not highlight some women as better than others because she has a god complex- flabbergasted by the irony!Mutha-hood also rode the wave with the Strong Girls Club merchandise, but as ultimately she’s so likeable her brand seems to be growing and growing. Reading another thread got me thinking about this. Certain people are definitely off limits on MN, but you can slag others off to your hearts content. I wonder what it is about talking about Influencers on MN that makes them so off limits. Who was the one who was threatening to doxx posters after a meeting at MN HQ?Yes, for a campaigning platform it is a shame that Mumsnet are so reluctant to allow open talk about these influencers and their shady goings on. Anna Eleri Hart. Her social blade stats are intriguing.Who was the one who was threatening to doxx posters after a meeting at MN HQ?
That was Anna Eleri Hart - she was quite fierce and threatening. Really bizarre behaviour. Mumsnet really went down in my opinion after that.Reading another thread got me thinking about this. I am at home sick today and have just discovered Social Blade but I can't figure out how to read the figures!Anna Eleri Hart. Her social blade stats are intriguing.
That’s the one, thanks. She’s another one with terrible engagement for the amount of followers she has. Do brands not check these things when they work with influencers?!Anna Eleri Hart. Her social blade stats are intriguing
