They’re still surfing! What the fuck.
There were a couple of kids there about 15/20 mins ago with wetsuits and paddle boards, would have been no more than 10yrs old! :(

I was watching a tik tok of a lady with a homestead and she's got loads of animals she's looked after and rescued. She's not in an evacuation zone (shes somewhere near tampa) -but she says her husband has lived there all his life and this is the hurricane that's got him real scared. They aren't leaving because she says her animals are her children. She can't put them in a barn because it's so dangerous in case it collapses. So she has to bring the smaller animals (chickens, dogs, cats, small cows) inside her home- but leave her horses outside. She said 'imagine leaving your children outside?' And it honestly just broke me. She seems in complete despair, she knows she's not in the direct line but she knows it will be bad and it's just crushed her. Her tik tok doesn't seem like the normal attention seeking tik tok- she seems genuinely heartbroken and scared for her animals which are her life. She's just asking for prayers bless her.
Utterly heartbreaking x
Oh god isn't so horrible, isn't it. Had tears just reading your post :( I can only imagine how hard that is for her. She would probably have the horses in the house if she could the poor woman. I really, really hope her, her family and all of her animals make it through safe and as well as can be. Will be praying for them xx

I’m not even surprised. When I was in North Carolina and we had a hurricane warning loads of my classes were half empty before the curfew kicked in because people were out riding the waves.
My jaw was near on the floor. I've had this on most of the day and you can see the weather getting worse and worse yet they're still fucking about in the water :(

Looking online at the live cameras etc it doesn’t look like it has been as bad as reported?
It hit as a Category 3. They expected it to hit as a Category 5 hence expecting it to be really bad

does sound like they were expecting the surge to be high in some areas though

Can someone update the thread later if they have been following the woman who had to leave her horses outside? I couldn't bring myself to follow her even though I know I'm desperate to find out :(
Really hope they are all ok.
The last post she made they seemed to be ok and the storm was hitting them when she made it 😊

Watching from Ireland. Fox have said there is 133 tornado warnings for the Florida area. The damage and it hasn’t even made landfall is terrifying.

I saw a program about the Orleans prison not so long ago too, in fact I think I wrote about it on one of the prison threads. I didn't realise how the prisoners were just left to fend for themselves. I read that they had no way of escaping as the waters began to rise. And apparently some of the younger, more vulnerable prisoners were a target for sex attacks. But many other prisoners formed a ring of steel around them to protect them. The prisoners had access to very little water or food and were essentially sitting ducks, trapped inside. They weren't treated like human beings and some of them hadn't even gone to court yet! Beyond awful.
I think mother nature is so scary. I can't even imagine the speed of the winds and the strength and force of the water. I bet the noise of it must be enough to terrify anyone. Absolutely awful. Does anyone know if its been downgraded at all? Or is it remaining the same?
Do you know what the program was called? I think there is one called "when the levees break" although I am not sure if it is solely about the prison. It really sounds horrendous what they went through.

I keep seeing people commenting about "hurricane Kirk" whilst the UK does get some awful devastating weather, it really is nothing compared to what the US get.

CNN is doing live updates if anyone wanted to follow any news channels

I think it is a cat 4 at the moment.

I only just thought to check if there was thead for Milton. I’ve been gripped on this the last couple of days.

I have Ryan Hall Y’all on for a live feed. I watch him during tornado season too. He thinks landfall will be the next 1.5hrs. It’s arrived quicker than predicted.

I just saw this in the live Naples webcam. Wondering if it’s the eye of the storm because it looks like the glow of the sun! The eye wall is not far off the coast now.

Ignore that, it looks like this now so it must have just been a random gap in the clouds

Some of these guys remind me of that old dude who wouldn't leave his house before Mt St Helens erupted

Yeh, whenever I’ve watched hurricane prep it does always seem advisable to leave them out but I know there were some posts upset on here about that, so thought they’d like this. It must be such a horrible decision to make. Essential to have their vaccines always up to date so that you can evacuate them (if you’re in a position to be able to).
I may be wrong but the people that were bringing them in, were they further away from the coast so less chance of flooding?

Thankfully I haven’t seen anything that looks to be too bad. I say too bad but you know what I mean I hope.

I think Sarasota was hit the worst from what I have seen so far

Also it looks like the man on the boat did stay on the boat after all 😬

It seems good but when I saw the post I saw people asking how.would they get them out of the house got flooded because I think you have to leave via a window then? People were saying they'd be safer let out to run than being stuck in the house with no escape
