I’m having real issues with sleep and my other half at the mo. We’ve moved in together which is lovely but I’ve always been a really light sleeper and it’s really difficult to sync up. He snores too especially after a drink and loves to sleep spooning and all cuddled up which feels like lying next to a 6ft4 radiator. He wakes up all sweaty which I can’t stand! Not sure the point of this message but i need to rant. I feel so sleep deprived and he doesn’t seem to understand what the issue is! I think I might need to reinstate a spare bed of some kind so I can escape... does anyone else sleep apart from their other half?

My partners snoring is starting to become a problem for us. I'm a lighter sleeper than he is but what frustrates me more is that he can fall asleep literally as his head hits the pillow, whereas it takes me ages to fall asleep which has always been the case. Our body-clocks are on the same wavelength so we usually go up to bed at the same time each night which is something I really love about our relationship. But I've now begun trying my hardest to fall asleep first because as soon as he starts snoring I know it will be a long night for me. We have other bedrooms which his children use when they come to stay every other weekend so I do sometimes go and sleep in one of their beds, but I don't really like doing this as I love my bed and as much as I sound like a right moaner I actually love us being in the same bed together. I nudge him and sometimes tut and do a fake, heavy sigh which sometimes works 😄. He has suffered with nasal polyps before so we think this could be an issue again so he's going to speak to our GP. He's also slightly overweight and I agree with others that I think this does make his snoring worse. And he's also worse when he's had a few drinks. He feels really guilty about keeping me awake, he uses a nasal flush and raises his head up on extra pillows. I feel sorry for him though because I know he's not doing it intentionally

This sounds exactly like my partner! I also do the same heavy sigh or pretty much throw myself across the bed when I’m turning round to wake him up. It’s infuriating how he can fall asleep within minutes of his head hitting the pillow.

Our spare room is more of a dressing room / office whilst I’m working from home and there’s no space for a bed 😕 we have leather couches as well and I don’t think it’s fair for one of us to have to sleep on the couch.

I do think my partners snoring is related to polyps after using a nose spray during hay fever season far too long and he’s also put on a wee bit of weight.

We’ve been together for almost 13 years and for 12 of those years he was quieter than a mouse when sleeping ☹

It is so hard because they aren’t aware of it. My partner is really apologetic and understanding during waking hours but when I’m kicking him (gently 😂) and asking him to lie on his side during the night he’s not best pleased! Any tips welcomed 🥱

Ask the GP to refer him for a sleep study. Suggest he loses some weight,

I snore really bad, it's extreme. I hate it, it makes me so conscious of staying anywhere except home. I've had a sleep study done and they said I have mild sleep apnea but not severe enough to intervene. It's effected my relationship too. I hate that I'm not even aware I'm doing it to be able to stop it 😔
Ok so i am 49 and had this all my life. I snore whether over, under and ideal weight. Due to being a 'pain in the a' I have had my palete reconstructed, my nose and throat cauterised which i can assure is the worst pain ever; tonsils out, adenoids out, dangly bit out. AND I STILL SNORE.

I do not do it on purpose, i cannot help it, i feel guilty about it and am riddled with anxiety if i ever have to go anywhere that is not my home too.

So i know how you feel; having anxiety about going to sleep and the guilt (and humiliation) is awful. What i can tell you is finding the correct pillow and finding ways to stay sleeping on your stomach will reduce it. I tend to rollover so i have to make a barrier down the bed so I cannot physically roll.

I also find taking antihistamines can occasionally be helpful. If you have issue with your ears too ( i do) then i would recommend asking your GP to refer you to a ENT Consultant; just know that even if you have the op it may not work.

I feel your pain. It’s a real tricky one. My husband is a terrible snorer and I’m also a light sleeper and prone to bouts of insomnia. It is a genuine bane of our relationship but I do appreciate he can’t help it. I have gone nights where I’ve had about 2 hours sleep and it impacts my day to day life so severely! I snored really badly but my dentist asked if I was stressed or worried as I was grinding my teeth in my sleep. He recommended a mouthguard to wear for sleep. He makes me a new one as and when but it has been noted that I don't snore since I've had the mouthguard. Had that for around 5 years now, I still grind my teeth but there is considerable less damage to teeth and no snoring. I have bought some off the internet that you put in hot water and mould them yourself, they are not as well fitting as the dentist but cheap enough to give it a go to see if it will work for you.

It sounds like our nights are very similar. I sometimes do a bit of a starfish kind of stretch across the bed to try and settle his snore gears down a bit. But I always feel guilty! Is that mad? I just hate the thought of waking him from his sleep.
I would say to maybe talk to your GP about the polyps like we are going to do. And maybe look at what you eat daily. I've always thought we eat pretty healthily, our diet is full of fresh veg and salad but it's definitely a little too heavy on the cheese, pasta and bread which is where the extra weight probably comes from.

I must be a witch as I don’t feel guilty. He says when he’s woken up he doesn’t realise it’s me that’s woken him and he falls right back asleep almost instantly. Like right now he’s snoring away and it’s all through his nose. It infuriates me to the point I could cry sometimes. I’ve taken sleeping tablets before which help me fall asleep quicker but I can’t deal with feeling like I’ve got a hangover for 2 days after.

To be honest we aren’t the healthiest of eaters but never have been, he was one of those tall lanky guys who could eat whatever he wanted without putting on any weight but now he’s 31 the weight is slowly creeping up. To be fair he’s 5 ft 11 and is 13 stone so it’s not even overweight.

I’ve asked him to phone the doctors plenty of times but he never does. Swear I wish he would bugger off to his parents for a few nights if it wasn’t for lockdown!

You're not a witch at all. Not getting enough sleep is just the worst and can really mess you up. I think that's why I replied to this thread as it is starting to get to me now.
You sound like you're at the end of your tether with it and what you don't want to happen is that it starts affecting your relationship. Does he realise how this is affecting you and how it's making you feel?
In the meantime have you tried wearing earphones? I was in hospital for some operations last year and the snoring from one of the women on my ward was just unbelievable. So I downloaded one of those apps where you can pick different sounds to help calm you. I liked the rain type of sounds and it definitely helped me to drift off. I still sometimes use them and I invested in a good quality pair because of my partners snoring. It's how I got into podcasts too so I sometimes put one to help me fall asleep.
It's not the answer as the only way I can fall asleep naturally is in when it's pitch black and silent. But I definitely would recommend it as a temporary fix.

I think we are more alike than we realise 😂 I need silence and pitch black to sleep as well.

When we talk about it he just says he can’t help it and I think he feels embarrassed about phoning the doctor, I know I would be if it was the other way around but I would do it if it was affecting him so much. I don’t know if I can call on his behalf? I think I’ve just been so used to him being silent for such a long time that the slightest noise annoys me. Even when he’s just heavy breathing it disturbs me. I don’t think I’ve really told him how bad it affects me I just moan at him during the night when I wake him up.

Wearing headphones sounds like a good idea to be fair, is it in ear ones you have? I have wireless over the ear ones which I don’t think would be very comfy to wear to bed as I sleep on my stomach. They are good for noise cancelling though so I could maybe try it, thank you for the suggestion.

I’m shattered today after 2 nights of being up til after 2am so hopefully tonight will be better, I might try going to bed before him.

You could make an appointment on his behalf so maybe suggest that to him? If it is because he's embarrassed then you could say to him to imagine what doctors see day in, day out. There's nothing that would surprise or shock them. They could refer him to a sleep clinic like others have suggested on here.
I really hope you had a better nights sleep last night. Yes I have in ear headphones. I researched and read lots of reviews to try and find a pair, I went for ones that cancel out noise around you. I sleep on my side so it can be a little uncomfortable but I've kind of managed to find the right position.

Is anyone’s partner getting help ? I’m laying on my sofa again because my husbands snoring is horrific . He make the most awful nosies through his mouth as well as his nose . I don’t want too but I’m thinking of getting a little bed for his office / tiny spare room . It’s really betting me down , I take the odd sleeping tablet when I’m at breaking point . I’ve had headphones on again I can sleep with music but as I’ve told him I can’t keep turning it up I’ll be deaf it’s not good for me ears and I like to hear if the kids need me. Ear plugs hurt . I honestly would divorce him right now , he said he would ring the dr and he hasn’t why should I have to nag him ? He’s over weight we both are i am trying to lose weight I can’t see him making much effort :( i feel hungover or like a zombie every single day of this ground hog life ahhhh

I know he feels bad and doesn’t choose to be like this but I can’t rationalise it much longer. I used to snore a bit but had nasal polyps removed ,plus he sleeps through the dog snoring and kids coming in :( anyone else get to resentful ?

I can relate to your entire post. Currently lying next to a snoring bear of a man and I swear, it’s the only time I’ve ever felt murderous. I work nights (my night off) so my sleep is crappy as it is; I’m a very light sleeper. I sympathise with you completely. ❤
I also worry about not hearing the kids through the night. He certainly doesn’t!

ETA: we’ve just had a fight about it and I’m now downstairs on the couch. He had the gall to tell me to “try and get some bloody sleep”! 😠

My husband snores a lot at the minute. He always has a couple of cans of beer and has put weight on so is what I'd class as overweight( his BMI might actually put him obese, I don't know) .
He snores when he goes to bed so I nudge him, tell him to move and he says he wasn't even asleep. Why are you snoring then?

I usually end up poking him so he wakes up and stops.. but then in the morning he goes on and on about how many times he was woken up in the night. I tell him that’s exactly how I feel! :ROFLMAO: I find it’s less when he is on his side. He’s also a very loud breather during the daytime so I’m not sure if that’s a part of it?

Feel for you ladies. I posted before about how bad mine was. We have both had a week of eating healthily and no drinking (well, none for me but one or two for him) and he hasn’t snored for the past three nights. Not sure if that’s related already but I do believe the best way to stop it is weight loss and no drinking 😭

This is my guy to a T. “I’m exhausted cos I was up from 4am” “you kept kicking me and turning over constantly” YEAH WHY DO YOU THINK THAT WAS

Hi everyone
Looking for advice on how to stop snoring? Partner has tried strips and throat sprays, as well as double pillows and a lavender spray with no luck.
I find ear plugs really uncomfortable so I would prefer to sort the problem out for him. The snoring is on his back and sides
Could be sleep apnea, a friend of mine has just been diagnosed. But I’d think over the counter stuff won’t work. Might need to have the back of his throat lasered, could be an issue with his nose, best to go to the GP
