Thank you for this thread! I'm always curious about knowing other people's food habits

I exercise 6 days per week and therefore my metabolism has increased a lot in the past months!
Breakfast is my main meal. I have a HUGE appetite in the morning. Then I have a normal lunch and a "big" dinner to prevent me having sweet cravings during the night! When I didn't have a "routine", I used to have really small portions/ no carbs for dinner and I would end up eating my body weight in chocolates and biscuits at 1 am /2 am. Still I've never been overweight because I've always used to exercise every day, weekend included. Nonetheless with my eating at night habit I managed to gain 4 kgs and I didnt like the way I looked, so I decided to stick to a regime basically.

As I previously said, I stick to 3 main meals, I don't like snacking.
I don't eat dairy and gluten as I'm intolerant for both. I eat tons of veggies during the day and fruits in the morning since it's carbs. I cut out processed food and sugary food such as biscuits.

I have a really really uncomfortable relationship with food. I have Boderline Personality Disorder, Depression, OCD, and a bad case of Body Dysmorphia. Im also a recovering drug user and im on quite a bit of medication- One med being mirtazapine which causes really bad weight gain!
Anyway, ive always been petite and able to eat loads, but when i had kids i went on a strict diet and exercise routine (it was more obsession and control tbh). Then i put on a bit of weight and went up to 10st, i hated it and felt like the biggest and most disgusting person in the world. Then i used drugs and went down to 7st 5ib and i felt my body was amazing (it wasnt). And during that time i lived on fizzy drinks and sweets.
Anyway fast forward to now, and im stable in terms of my mental health, im completely clean, and im eating okay. I still struggle so badly with my body image but im trying slowly to come to terms with it. Mirtazapine causes weight gain because it makes you really hungry, so im the space of 6 months ive gone from being 8stone to just under 10 stone. Ive learnt to take my mirtazapine just before bed so im not starving and my eating is okay now and im not binging on food anymore.
Anyway my food diary is always
*Porridge for breakfast
*sometimes no lunch, or some days i have a sandwich and cup a soup and maybe a packet of crisps
*Dinner is usually fish, sweet potatoes or veg, or something like chilli, or anything ive cooked for the rest of our family. But i always add plenty of veg.
*Im currently obsessed with eating sugar snap peas as a snack. And if i want a snack then il try and eat fruit, or peppers. Sometimes i will have a choc bar or bag of crisps, but im relatively healthy now. And im really mindful of my weight now and because im off sick i dont do half as much exercise than i did do.
I try and drink at least 3 litres of water a day, plus endless cups of tea.

Sorry for the extremely long post! Im just a bit fucked up with food tbh
I'm sorry you've gone through this. I really didnt think of any of this before I posted this thread.

It does sound like taking your medication before bed is the key for you, and it sounds like you're doing really well now.

This thread really has opened my eyes a lot!

This interests me, even with just a few posts in this thread you can see the differences in people’s intake. Let it be said I love chocolate, refined sugar, crisps and pizza. But, I have a tendency to put on weight easily, even when I (think) I eat similar amounts to my friends . To keep me on the straight and narrow I don’t eat breakfast as I’m not hungry first thing. For lunch I will have some protein with salad and maybe a small amount of carbs. Dinner will be Similar, protein and lots of salad or veg and again a small amount of carbs. No snacking and fruit if Im hungry. I guess my body doesn’t need as many calories as I would like to give it. I’d also walk as much as I can, wherever possible. It’s so boring and I often fall off the wagon , but after many years of yo yo eating it’s the only thing that works for me to keep within a healthy weight.

You’ve really been through it, kudos to you for being clean now , that must have been extremely difficult. Food is such a complicated thing for many, when others view it just to survive and nothing more. Be mind to yourself, you are doing extremely well.

7am - I have breakfast at the same time as my son , he always has weetabix so sometimes I have those but most of the time I have porridge .. I’m doing slimming world right now so that’s my Hexb

12pm - I have lunch , usually something really simple like a jacket potato with beans , or an omelette ..

3pm - usually have a cup of coffee to keep me going and sometimes a banana if I’m feeling hungry

6pm - dinner time , I’m not the most adventurous cook but we usually have spaghetti Bol (with quorn mince, I’m vegetarian) , bean chilli , a pasta dish , a curry .. we rarely have a takeaway but if we do we always go for Indian ! I try and get my speed in with dinner so always try and have what I’m having with a side salad or some broccoli or asparagus

8pm - my son is in bed and sometimes I have a ice lolly or an options hot chocolate or a biscuit or two with my chamomile tea

I'm very interested in this thread as compared to my skinny friends I feel like I eat hardly anything, yet I wouldn't call myself skinny and would love to lose a few lbs!

I don't eat breakfast but I have lunch early - usually 11:30 and now I WFH that's usually scrambled egg on toast, or egg and soldiers. I snack on a bag of crisps or a piece of fruit mid-afternoon and then dinner is usually a standard family dinner - carbonara/fish and chips/steak and salad/spag bol etc. with no side and no dessert.

Sometimes I'll then have an evening snack e.g. a piece of fruit or a small choc bar but that's quite rare.

It is so different seeing different answers. Glad I'm not the only one that likes a bit too much fizzy pop, and I dont drink tea/coffee or alcohol either.

It does show that its not a "one size fits all" scenario and the whole 2000 cals for woman and 2500 for men doesn't mean that much really!

I try and be stricter during the week and rarely drink alcohol Sunday-Thursday. I also exercise quite a lot 5k 4x week, dvd and rowing x2 and a couple of hours of dog walking each day.

Typical weekday:
B - slice of wholemeal toast, half an avocado, tomato and two poached eggs (literally my favourite food - I have this everyday!)

L - tin soup/jacket potato with beans or tuna or tuna/leftover roast chicken and salad/ leftovers from dinner

D - we meal plan and my boyfriend and I take turns to cook. This week we are having: sweet and sour quorn w rice, fajitas, veggie paella, sausage and mash.

snacks are banana, satsumas, Greek yoghurt, small bits of cheese, cereal bars. Covid has meant we are in the habit of having a chocolate bar each evening when watching telly!

at the weekends I have the same breakfast at brunch time but with a bagel. Dinners are usually more time and calorie heavy - nice curries, homemade pies and much bigger portions and proper puddings. We usually have a takeaway less than once a month.

I also love MFP - my boyfriend is a big cyclist so our positions are usually too big when he serves up.

Interesting seeing different answers! I eat little and often, I don’t normally have huge meals but I like to eat every few hours and probably have too much sweet stuff! I drink about 2.5 litres of water a day and normally one tea or coffee with breakfast. My weight has been steady for the last few months but I can quickly gain it if I have too many takeaways.

Today I’ve had:
6.30am Breakfast - porridge with half a banana and a coffee
Snack about 10am - oat bar
Lunch 12pm - ham salad sandwich, handful of grapes, raspberries and blueberries.
Snack 2pm - small slice of cheesecake at work
Dinner 6.30pm - beef taco with salad
Try not to snack in evenings but have some dairy milk or biscuits some nights if it’s been a bad day!

I have coeliac disease and because it was undiagnosed for many years, I struggled to eat without feeling bloated and obviously I didn’t know what was making me bloated.

breakfast- usually a homemade smoothie or if we are going out I have hash browns from McDonald’s!

Dinner- if we are out it’s either a GF subway or McDonald’s fries. If I’m at home then it tends to be Birdseye waffles or occasionally pasta with a tin of tomatoes.

tea- usually something homemade and healthy, chicken & veg soup, spag Bol with added veg, homemade curry, jackets and beans ect...

Snacks- I don’t snack in the day generally, but after tea at night we will sometimes have microwave sweet popcorn or share some chocolate.

My portion sizes are normal I would say, I’m not a big eater and I don’t have a huge plate full. This becomes so evident whenever I have a roast at the in laws, my partner, his sister and his dad have mounds and mounds of food whereas his mum and me have a “normal” sized portion.

my weekday and weekend diet are different!
Weekday:
Breakfast- cereal and a cup of tea
Apple at 11am
Lunch- chicken sandwich and flavoured chickpea snack/vegetable snack
Dinner: either pasta, chilli or a curry type dish. If I have no time, I’ll have beans on toast or soup.

weekends I just eat whatever I want whenever I want🤭

It blows my mind that there are so many people here who only eat 1- 1and a bit meals a day. That’s nothing. You must all be super skinny.

obviously what I eat changes all the time but today I had- breakfast- cappuccino x2, 2 slices toast with peanut butter. 2 filter coffees
Lunch- cheese and tomato omelette, cappuccino
Dinner - marinated chicken breast, corn on the cob and oven chips.
drank lots of water and in the evening had Some sweets and a cookie

I mainly worry about not enough fruit and veg, 2-3 portions a day is normal for me

I eat a fair amount. Since having my children I’ve done my best to always have a hot breakfast. I never used to but I feel like it really sets us up for the day. For lunch we usually have salad, pasta or on occasion a nice sandwich etc. Dinner we will go for anything, we just try to go for moderation.

I do tend to snack a bit during the day but it usually tends to be on fruit and vegetables as I’m not a big chocolate/sweet fan. I try my best to eat as clean/healthy as possible but I also don’t restrict myself of anything.

I should say though I’ve always struggled with gaining weight, no matter how hard I try.

Ah no, that sucks :(

To be fair, I think my diet coke habit runs into addiction territory at this point haha. When I tried to cut down, I got headaches! I quit smoking this year which I would consider to be easier than quitting the diet coke 😣 it's that bad!
Ive tried quitting the fizzy pop this week and the headaches are unbearable

Genuinely interested...
From threads I follow I see lots of "she barely eats", "is that all she feeds the kids", "she doesnt stop eating", "is she going to eat it or climb it" etc...
So what's normal, how much do you eat? What do you eat?

I never used to eat breakfast so by 10am I'd be starving and gorge on shit food!
Then I'd miss lunch because I'd had the snacks. And then have a huge evening meal to make up for it 🤦‍♀️

Now I'm WFH I have a better routine of breakfast (cereal), lunch (sandwich and crisps with a piece of fruit) then dinner will be your usual spaghetti bol/lasagne/curry - pretty standard family style meals. But usually with garlic bread or similar!

I do tend to pick at stuff during the day from the kids treat box though 🤦‍♀️

My downfall is pepsi max, I go through too much of that!

Writing it down has made me realise my diet seriously needs changing!!
I forgot to add I too have a Coke Zero addiction, similar to your Pepsi max love! 😊

I know my diet isn’t the best I go through periods of being relatively healthy before restricting myself and then binging as a result 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ When I’m having a period of “normal” eating this is how my day would go. I also have an unhealthy obsession with Pepsi Max it’s sickening the amount I go through

morning 9:30 - espresso

lunch time around 1 - wrap with salad and some sort of protein (I’m veggie so usually a meat replacement), if I’m still hungry I’d have carrot sticks & dip or maybe a packet of crisps

dinner 5:30/6 - I usually make curries/ veg spaghetti bolognese/ baked potato etc. Anything easy but filling.

evening - quite often have a snack about 7 if I’m hungry can be anything I fancy (slice of cake, fruit, crisps , chocolate)
