I’d rather be employed and have that stability. I did ask once but they refused which I think is a bit shit considering I work 35-40 hours a week for them. Not having any holiday completely burns me out. I take one or two weeks off a year and then panic because I’m not earning anything during that time. I’m intelligent and could do much better, I just don’t have much experience in anything that’s going to earn me much more money (history is care work, hospitality and HCA for NHS) it also doesn’t help that I need to WFH now x
I need to WFH so I don’t know what jobs to look for. I really don’t want to do call centre work from home as I used to do it and can’t stand being on the phone all day now because I get irritated by noise. I don’t mind the occasional phone call though. The job I do at the moment means I can quietly get on with my job and maybe take one or two phone calls a day. I just don’t know what to do x

Definitely go for it!! You’ll earn much more and it’s a more calming environment since you are working for yourself.
Yeah, mine is back in FinOps after a stint in Commercial. He really likes it, but Commercial pays far better in his org. That said, he’s just been offered his boss’ maternity cover so fingers crossed it can become a permanent move if he does a good job.

Yes that would be better we used to be owned by a different company people who worked there longer got better pay and I don’t/didn’t mind as they’d been loyal to the company. Everyone got a week extra holiday after a year which was good but once a new company bought us they gave everyone the extra week regardless
Don’t really want to out myself but the company is well set-up for remote work, which is the only reason I’m not bothered. If I was in the remote minority in a company it would definitely give me serious pause for thought.

I agree! I used to be a hairdresser and entered at band 4, a few of my team were shocked that I started at that Band but I think I just got lucky!Sorry to butt in - are you NHS? If not, it sounds like you might be interested in a Medical Secretary/Waiting List Secretary type role. These often lead to being a PA for surgeons, consultants, senior nurses and management etc with a bit of experience. It also sounds like you’ve got the right experience to step in at either a band 3 or band 4 role and work your way up. If you’re in Scotland, band 3 is currently £21,709 - £23,603 and band 4 is £23,709 - £25,982. Not sure how long it’ll stay at those rates with the current ballots surrounding the pay rise as the 5% uplift was rejected. PA roles tend to be band 4 but can be band 5 if you’re willing to take on some management/supervisor duties too (band 5 is currently £26,104 - £32,915).
If you’re not in Scotland then obviously ignore the pay rates but the job roles should be more or less the same across the country. NHS is always a good place to get experience and then move onto somewhere private if you’re looking to earn more though
I was in an Office Manager/Administrator/PA role in my early 20s and was on £18k! That was rubbish money for that job even thenI'm now over 40 and earning just shy of £50k and I work in project management/commercial insights/data analytics. I've always felt like I've been shafted when it comes to money, earning less than people I managed, earning less than people doing the same job, earning less than people with less experience. Never really felt able to fight for myself though. As for my friends, they earn a really wide salary range, everything from £20k to over £100k. I'd love to earn more but at the same time I want to go part time for my mental health and for my kids so can't win them all!

He is indeed a recruiter, not agency and in quite a technical/niche area, base 70k currently with car allowance and discretionary bonus although if he’s received one of those in the past year he hasn’t shared it with meOh interesting, is your husband earning £70K as a recruiter now? Recruiters in my work are 3 pay grades below me and I’m paid £25k less than your husband! I’m wondering where your husband works as my level must be paid 6 figures, which is absolute goals
He’s now looking for a more senior role, head of talent acquisition etc, but he would actually divorce me if I gave away which industry as it’s so small
