My deposit is £300. I can afford to lose it but I want to hold out hope for the holiday as it’s a “special one”. I got a fantastic deal on it in the first place and I just know I’ll never be able to afford take her if it’s not this year. I only booked in Feb too - bloody typical!!

Side note - I have told family & friends I that I’m not having a birthday this year and wiping out the entire year so could persuade my mum to do the same and turn 60 again next year

We had got a brilliant deal as well, we were going to Florida and Mexico and it’s annoying knowing we won’t ever get the same price to go back. This year I feel that holidays will go ahead but maybe not live up to our expectations or what we would call ‘normal’.

I don't think holidays will happen but flights will. Ie if you're travelling say to Germany or turkey to see family it will be fine, but resort holidays won't happen. We were due to pay a massive final balance on our summer holiday to Malaysia but the agents told us it's best not to pay and to ask for a credit note for the deposit. Apparently the credit note it's atol protected and we can use it against another holiday for next year. Still don't know if that's right but it made no sense to pay thousands for a holiday we know will definitely not be happening and it could until the end of the year to get the money back.

I'd ask for a refund as a credit note might only be good for the company you originally booked with. If they go out of business I'd imagine the credit note would be worthless. Also I'd check about your final payment as if you don't pay it the company could say it was a breach of contract and refuse to pay any monies already paid.

I am pretty much on the same page as you. Travel is everything to me and I feel like my wings have been clipped and is one of the things I’m finding hardest to be honest. I’ve had a pretty rough few years and this year was the first that husband and I felt could be good. Travel was going to be the biggest part of it. We are desperate to get away but like you I can’t decide whether it’s a good idea or madness. I worry that if we don’t go on holiday soon things could get worse and we may not get another chance for a really long time. But on the other hand I’m very conscious of the only reason there will be a potential second wave will be because of people moving around too much and being around other people.

We’ve decided for now we’ll wait until the first few weeks of holidays have happened to see if there are any changes and also to see what sort of holiday people are having. Id only want to go really if it still felt like a relaxing holiday instead of one where I was worrying all the time or there are restrictions on things. But definitely feeling sad and frustrated as I really wanted to start getting back out and seeing the world. Have been really itching to be able to do the west coast of America and at the moment with how things are over there I can’t see that happening for a really long time.

I don't think I fancy doing any of my big bucket list destinations or anywhere I haven't been before as it do think the experience will be reduced.

But a few favourite destinations that we have done plenty of other times so will be happy to not mingle or explore too much is what I am swaying towards

We’re last minute bookers and normally go away about afew times a year but we’re not doing anything we had planned and written 2020 off. We’ve already had our main holiday for the year in February, I might feel differently if we hadn’t? To be fair if been Wanting to fly less for the environment so this has given me the reality check I needed.Xx

In relation to holiday credit notes, we booked ours with Jet2 but through Hays travel. Will the credit note be for Hays or Jet2? We already have holiday plans for next year and Jet2 don't fly to Egypt, so it would be helpful it it was a Hays voucher rather than Jet2. Does anyone know if this is possible? If its Jet2 only I will just get a refund (whenever that might be!)
We're due to fly to Gran canaria at the beginning of July but still waiting for news if this is happening.

I have a sun holiday booked for August 31st. Obviously too far to contact the company about it just yet, but they've closed the park so we would get a refund if it isnt open I believe. I thought they couldnt legally refuse a refund now? Its not essential travel so you arent allowed to go to the site.

Going to phone on Monday if they havent already emailed s response to a email I sent after i rudely got told on the phone i would lose my money then

I’m interested to see what happens now holidays have restarted in Spain for Germans. I feel hopeful now it’s started I really hope that it will turn out ok. I’ve gone from thinking I absolutely won’t go on holiday this year to thinking that while holidays are working at 50% occupancy, if our government allow non essential travel I might be tempted. No fights for sun beds, beaches not packed. It might be nice. I’m desperate for a holiday!

Good luck getting a Hays refund, my sister had a holiday booked for Cornwall and Isle of Man, they’re refusing to refund only a credit note to be used by December and so she’s trying to go through her credit card. I believe some kind of watch dog programme is onto them as well

Absolutely, same here. If we do decide to venture abroad it will only be for a package all inclusive holiday and probably to the hotel we went to last year. It’s definitely not feeling like a time for sightseeing and exploring new places. Husband said this morning he feels happy to book now. I’m holding off at the moment and will see how things go

I have a holiday booked for October and my husband is frantic about it as he said this will still be going in for long time and he said sharing a pool with people and going into accommodation after people is going to increase the risk of catching this. I dont know what to do as we didnt take holiday insurance and it's a group booking to Lanzarote. Any advice welcome?

I think 2020 will pretty much be a write off. And then when the airlines do start again the flights will be mega expensive to make up for the loss.

Agreed, we lost 3 trips ( 2 booked, one planned) my daughter wants to jump on a flight to anywhere after this pandemic. No chance. Airports will be hotspots and planes are the worst normally anyway. Will sit it out and maybe late summer 21 consider it. I suppose it will depend if you’ve had covid or not. If I’ve had it I’ll maybe, if I haven’t I’ll be still worried Have read about different strains tho

I’d be really interested on everybody’s thoughts on going away soon given the new announcements, and if anybody is planning on?
Long story short, we were supposed to get married in Italy on 30th July. That’s all been cancelled and moved to next year BUT we booked a mini moon in Croatia for a week after the wedding, going on 5th August. The hotel has been fully paid and our return flights haven’t been cancelled, and it’s looking likely travel advice will mean that we can go. If we can go the hotel won’t refund us and we can’t claim on the insurance as it’s simply us not wanting to travel, and we’d lose almost £3k.
I’m so conflicted - obviously it’s a lot of money to lose, but more than the money I’d love nothing more than a holiday after the past few months (as we all would) and Croatia has such a low infection rate I wouldn’t be worried about travelling. But on the other hand I’d feel incredibly selfish going away at the moment. Im really interested in what you guys would do?? Xx

My concern would be around waiting for it to have died down enough to not get stuck wherever I went on holiday were there another resurgence of cases. Having spent the last few weeks trying to repatriate people from countries with closed borders and airspace it is NOT FUN

I’ve been looking for next year, but its triple the price of what we paid for the one that got cancelled this year. Trying to hold off hoping they drop a bit. I understand they need to make the money back, but the prices are ridiculous.

I am considering it but not sure if it's better to wait a while. I see a lot of travel company's are now pushing 2021 holidays.
Has anyone been to Bali? It's my other half's BIG birthday next June so want something a bit special.
Any thoughts on Bali would be much appreciated.

We were due to go on holiday end of April but obvs with lockdown our flights were cancelled - so my partners mum rearranged those flights for mid August this year. I absolutely do NOT want to go and I’m fully expecting a second wave. I have so many anxieties about it all and it doesn’t help having my one year old going too. I’ve tried talking to my partner about it but he makes me feel ungrateful as it is his parents who paid for the holiday. I’d just rather be safe than sorry.
