Nobody genuinely gives a tit about other people’s babies’ sex. It’s a boy? Great! It’s a girl? Nice. That’s it. Unless you’re its parents or grandparents, it’s immaterial really.

Rowan is a unisex name as well so on first glance I did assume she was keeping the gender unknown, bit surprised she didn't. If only for a bit if extra security/privacy.

I think she probably just got caught up in the narrative - it's easy to just dismiss your baby as something with a set of genitals before they're born, but I guess now he's here she's realised that it all seems so impersonal to do that with an actual baby.I’m so confused why she made a big fuss about gendering babies and has now gendered her baby

This is my guess as well. More often than not I observe that the people I know/know of who make a big song and dance about how completely inconsequential it is whether a person is male or female sort of quietly retire the position when their baby arrives.
Obviously sex has no bearing on all manner of the most important things about us as individuals, but it’s a very fundamental piece of information about someone and I think for most the notion that it’s “just a set of genitals” kind of goes out of the window when it meets with the cold air of reality.
There's a great deal to be said about raising your child in the least gendered environment possible (eg. letting them wear whatever clothes they want, have whatever interests they want, raising both male and female children to the same standard with the same rules and expectations), but sex is still important.
As that kid goes through life, he's gonna be classed depending on what sex he was born as, and if he decides he doesn't fit that as he grows older, he's going to have a very safe space to explore that (which is more than lots of trans people can hope for). But growing up, it's easier to just be seen as a boy or a girl, because for better or worse that's how we class individuals. Before you actually have a kid I can see why Hannah got swept up in the whole idea, but like everyone has been saying, the reality is very different.
I do think Rowan is very lucky to be in a household that will be so accepting of him no matter what, though. I assume Hannah will address this all after she's back, anyway - she's the sort to do that so hopefully we'll get a good idea of her thoughts now baby is here.
(Thought it was potentially important to say that I'm enby here - I don't consider myself transgender but many would call me a part of the trans community)

Does anyone think it's kind of odd she's had so many prerecorded videos uploaded since her maternity leave began? Just now there was another pregnancy update one, when her baby has already been born. It feels weird because she's a youtuber- you expect to follow those along in their lives, but now she's really emphasizing that she's putting out videos for the sake of it, and they don't honestly reflect what she's currently going through. Like she's kind of creating a disconnect. That sounds way too dramatic, but it just seems odd, you know? I don't think she's just making these for the views but she does seem almost too worried about losing viewers by not providing content.
I can imagine she doesn't want to stop the sex education videos because it's more of a business for her, so I get that. But still, I've never seen a youtuber have such a formal maternity leave. Usually they just take a little break and nobody really seems to mind?

I assume it’s for the money, that because she’s self employed she needs the income, plus she’s done better than some influencers putting up the update just after he’s born, some waited months to upload what she’s just done
I imagine the videos will slow a bit more over time untill she makes a come back
Personally I’ve been impressed by Hannah’s professionalism in making sure she’s got prerecorded content. It makes a nice change from lazy influencers who do the bare minimum but expect all their viewers to stick around regardless, and shows she takes her career seriously.
I agree, it's clear she sees this as a job and takes it seriously. Other YTers take note!
The thing that surprised me a bit was that she said the prerecorded content would go out between the start of maternity leave and the birth and after that, there would be nothing for a while, and yet a new video appeared afterwards anyway. Not complaining, because a third trimester video's going to go down better now than in three months, and because of her doing her job properly, but it surprised me.
I’m pretty impressed with her maternity leave plans honestly. It’s better than her just disappearing. I know Hannah has chosen her career, but I can imagine it’s pretty stressful to be self-employed and be taking any time off let alone 3 months.
In one of her Patreon posts she goes into more detail, she says she has a "final week of content" that will be posted after the baby is born then she's going on proper maternity leave. I think the final week of content is to say a proper goodbye before no videos for three months
Can i direct you to maybe watch Daniel Howell’s latest video. It might give you a clearer insight as to what Hannah actually experiences as a YouTuber and how important it is that she takes a proper maternity leave? I don’t imagine you’d want to have a baby and then a few weeks later start working again.
i think this is unfair because at least her pregnancy is still relevant and she couldn't predict if the baby was going to be overdue, zoe sugg uploaded her third trimester vid two months ago when her daughter was born in august!!
Exactly, people would judge Hannah if she was coming straight back and they’re judging her that she’s taking time off while having prepared for it. She can’t win either way
