The ones that get me are the ones I used to see on tumblr a lot that were like "Donate to a queer autistic girl" "Donate to a black transwoman".

Not for anything specific like medical bills or vet bills or homelessness, just because. Usually accompanied by a lot of guilt tripping.

Why should I? If I thought someone was genuinely in need of financial help I could give, their identity is irrelevant, but just existing as you are doesn't automatically make you entitled to other people's money.
E-begging has got so bad you can do stuff like filter out every possible related term to it on the likes of X and Tumblr and still feel bombarded.

Unless there is proof of the story like, say, someone raising funds because there's been a house fire or actual medical bills for something lifesaving, why countless people rush to donate to anyone with a begging bowl out mystifies me. One born every minute, I guess.

I presumed when they dismissed their divorce that they were back together but NO he had a GF and the wife has a billionaire BF.

There’s a person in tiktok (they’ve had desecration accounts) and they have a go fund me for their new life in Thailand. They even admitted their tactic which is ‘everyone loves a sob story’ and goes live and essentially asks people to share their GFM link etc and using a newborn for the sympathy vote. I can’t get over how people still fall for this after all the information online, documentaries and even the people themselves are giving out their plan

I agree that insurance should be a legal requirement, but the problem is most people will always go for the cheapest possible, not read the T&Cs for any exclusions and not fully declare existing health conditions (if applicable) and GoFundMe will keep popping up saying how unfair the insurance companies are.

Insurance companies are dicks, but do your due diligence.
They also don’t check that insurance covers them for the specific activity they’re doing especially if it’s high risk.

These are the same people who probably live their lives on credit and try to look rich on social media.
It's amazing what people will fake.

They basically rent everything but get the gullible/inexperienced to believe they've "made it" and it's their real life.

There have been quite a few stories now about people with mansions and designer cars getting exposed as owning nothing and being not much better than outright scammers.

They were having a sober stroll at 2am across a dual carriageway? Yeah right.
If it’s where I’m thinking it’s from a main club down to San Antonio. Sadly a lot of fatalities / accidents happen on this road. People either don’t want to pay taxis and think they’re ok to walk home. It’s quite a few miles! There’s also another club across the road but they put a crossing in fairly recently.

Anyone seen the TikTok woman Monica .. “lifewithmonicaj”
Daughter was recently diagnosed with a form of cancer which it seems like she isn’t in serious danger from (surely she would post the positive side but oh no, not when there’s a GFM)
So she put a GFM, apparently because she will be out of work (didn’t have a job besides tt anyway)
Last I saw after about a week was it showing £8k I think. She posted yesterday with a caption about missing her July mortgage payment and that her car needs air con and another tt with her son taking up old carpets and she said they are getting the carpets replaced as they have had them over 10 years.
Bare in mind she announced the child had cancer and done the Gfm possibly the same/next day!

https://www.gofundme.com/u/38cfd250-4575-4046-9813-d2ef31b68f49 (now just over £10k raised)
My understanding with an ill child requiring hospital treatment is the NHS covers your daily transportation/milage and meals, you fill out forms and claim the cash.

How does someone with 5 kids and no job get a mortgage? Doesn’t add up 🤷🏻‍♀️

so why do most of them do gofundmes then. I never knew this
It is the very basics that is covered, anything else needs to be paid for. The ones who have a GFM opened are likely to also want the horse drawn hearse, flower displays etc etc.

A cast member of one of those Real Housewives franchises has set one up to have help with 'personal expenses' while she has cancer treatment.

I am sympathetic to her illness but this is like a re-run of the James van der Beek situation.

These people will never accept that they can't always have it all like the rest of us have to.

There is something so crass about all these GoFundMe efforts getting set up within hours of a passing.

The one exception is funeral costs but otherwise it's creeping me out.
Totally agree.
Now it's becoming common to see them set up, usually after a tragic death, where it's unclear what the purpose of the fund is. 'To help the family...' fair enough if people want to help to pay for a funeral, as it's an unexpected cost.

They should be closed, imo, once the funeral is paid for, or like the example above the money given to help a specific cause.

The American women who died after a tummy tuck? Family calling it medical neglect?
Yes, except it turns out she isn't dead. The family wrote the original GFM as if she was deceased and the husband did a bizarre TT claiming "they killed my wife", and mentioned medical negligence (also moaned about the cost of the surgeries), but now they say she's in a hospice somewhere. They have also said she was brain dead and in a vegetative state. The regular updates from family have stopped now other than one of them making a post to blame social media for misinformation.

3 GFMs for this one......top one is probably fake though and will get removed.....

I've only scanned the narrative, but it just mentions a swimming pool accident. I'm not sure if the "GB Diving Aspirations" comment is sarcasm and therefore implying that he dived in, possibly into shallow water?

Anyway, the GFM isvague as usual, re the cause of injury, and no mention of insurance......

Back to the usual template for these GFMs, lad on holiday falls/dives hurts back, possibly forgot insurance which wouldn't have covered them anyway if they had maybe had a few bevvies......

No rooms smashed or missing organs.....or new teeth involved, but as I said, I only scanned it quickly, so there could be a few surprises in there....

Oh wow. Did the other two get life sentences as well?
It said they were sentenced too. I don't think it specified what they got. The mother seems to be implying that Mia doesn't do drugs, and studied law. Not sure how the mother knows whether she does drugs. She can't tell her over the phone the whole story.
She got 25 years and 100,000 fine. So what happens if the fine isnt paid? Does she get more time? There is an appeal coming up, so I assume the mother wants money to visit her, and for a solicitor.

Jake Wood asking for money for a worker on Eastenders.

GFM says £15k needed, but then set target at £30k !!!......plus they are unsure if insurance may still pay out.....

Why do people rush for money, instead of waiting for insurance. What happened before GFM? Does treatment really get put on hold? Are insurance companies known for taking ages? Genuine questions, as I've never been in that situation....
