He was a truly wonderful man. I was reading somewhere an interview where George said Princess Diana had a huge crush on him. They were good friends for many years. Imagine the kinds of things they chatted about 😢
The one and only time I actually met George, he was escorting Princess Di at an Aids Benefit gig at Wembley Stadium. They were sat directly opposite us until the interval and we dashed round to see them come out as George was leaving early to go to the Royal Albert Hall to sing with Elton John.
He was in his French crop era and was taller in the flesh than I thought he was. Absolutely beautiful. Not sure about Diana, ignored her 😂

So happy tonight to read that Last Christmas has its No1 spot - lovely to see the photos of Andrew today too.

Happy Christmas fellow GM and Wham fans - hugs 🎄💖🎄xx

After all the Yog adoration in the Secret Celeb Gossip threads, I think it’s time the man, the legend, got his own thread (let’s face it, he’s more than worthy of one!)

I’ve been a fan of his since the early 90’s as I grew up listening to both him and Wham! My favourite solo album of his was Listen Without Prejudice.

He was a fantastic artist, an incredible human being, and was the first to have a laugh at himself. One of my favourite videos of him is where he’s refused entry into his own concert 😂😂😂 I can’t think of an artist since who can take the piss out of himself and kept it real as well as George did.

He is so, so missed 💔

He secretly paid for a lot of medical procedures for people which the NHS didn’t cover, such as breast cancer treatment. And never publicised it.

There is a great interview somewhere alongside Morrissey where GM, affable as usual, happened to tell the interviewer that he was a fan of the band Joy Division. They were totally confused as had assumed he just favoured cheesy pop IRL and I suspect Morrissey was put a bit out of joint too as he wanted the monopoly on seriousness. 🤣

Eta: here it be

Wham are Christmas number 1 again. Only track to do it in consecutive years as well. How fabulously bittersweet 🥲

This is 🙏👏💖 news - sad, but lovely. I wonder how George would have reacted to the celebration of 40 years - the documentary too? What a legacy he left behind.

Love this version of I'm your man, my daughter's fave Wham/GM tune but more so for me as we were there the night this tour was recorded for the DVD and were down in the 3rd row from the front. Cried when he came out then sung and danced the rest of night 😁
I was there both nights for this recording. I was with a friend and my mum in the 4th row, whilst another friend was front row. His brother had managed to get a great seat at the end of the catwalk, so my friend gave up his front row seat and I managed to persuade my mum to take it. It was the first night and he performed her absolutely favourite track - Different Corner. Was so happy she got to see that front row.

I'm sure almost everyone on here knows anyway but there's a new George Michael documentary on tonight. Channel 4, 9pm. Probably lots of sleb talking heads but extra George is always a pleasure to see.

Watching this program I knew George was extremely generous but he really was a one off. An absolute diamond.

Just thinking about how beautiful this song is. It’s so dreamy and in a way, it’s a banger too. Apparently it was originally going to be more upbeat, but he took away the snare and said

but I love how his music could be romantic AND sexy at the same time, Edge Of Heaven’s another one that’s just brilliantly that way.
Edge of Heaven is the one song that reminds me of Wham the Final. They (George and Andrew) made a big deal about audience participation and that's always stuck with me.

This thread is so lovely. All of us united in our love for George. I watched a yt short earlier today of him being interview by Michael Parkinson R.I.P and the charm and great sense of humour George had was fabulous. What a terrific man, he had it all. ♥

@Sideboard Bob , the very vt I watched.

Another long time fan here. I have mentioned this previously on another thread but here goes. An old school friend of mine used to work on the security queues at Heathrow. She worked on the VIP area , the rule was to never ask anyone for autographs. This was long before the selfie was a thing. We had a discussion that if George ever came through she would chance her luck and ask. One morning he came through, she said he was charming. She asked him for an autograph for me, he wrote my name and then love George Michael. She thanked him and as he went he said don’t get told off ! This must have been 25 years ago, I still have it in a frame ❤
I saw him at Earls Court, Wembley, The Royal Albert Hall and my fave was when he played at the Royal Opera House for an AIDS benefit for Elton Johns charity. I think we all knew he was amazing but the hole he left when he passed away is immeasurable. His music is timeless and his talent rare. RIP wonderful George ❤
What an incredible encounter your friend had and the outcome for you is a lifetime memory that you framed. I'll admit, a wee bit envious :p The closest I came to George was at The Four Seasons Hotel he was staying at. Went into the lounge/bar area and saw Deon Estus and had a sweet chat. Took a picture and years later sent Deon a message on Twitter with the pic we'd taken. Such a down to earth guy as well. He truely enjoyed working for George.

ETA Quite sad when I learned Deon also passed away in 2021
