I’m on here for a bit of a rant. Have posted a similar but slightly different rant on LGB thread as well! Currently on a teams meeting in my role as a trade union steward. A talk about 2024 being the year of the LGBT+ worker, it was ALL about trans & NB, not a mention of the LGB! Have had to switch my camera off so my face doesn’t give anything away! I daren’t say anything as I would instantly be accused of transphobia and probably booted out but am so annoyed! Why are people ignoring the LGB as if they have no issues in the workplace in favour of a tiny (but seemingly ever growing) minority of very vocal people who act as if nobody else is more important? I don’t consider myself transphobic (TRA’s would strongly disagree!), am happy to use preferred pronouns and whatever name you go by. I just don’t want biological males in women only spaces and don’t want anyone automatically gender affirming children! I accept people as I find them and quite frankly you can wear what you want (reserving the right to take the piss out of ridiculous clothes but that’s based on the clothes and my views not the person wearing them
) but I am really struggling to accept that ‘trans rights’ are being demanded as being more important than others as that’s what it looks/sounds like to me. One thing that I heard and was really glad my camera and mic were both off cos I couldn’t help shouting ‘fuck right off’ - a proposal to remove gendered seats on the national committee. The union currently has female seats, some male seats and also general seats (which can be held by males or females) and was initially set to ensure females would be on an important committee (the union is about 2/3rds female). It’s apparently to allow NB members to feel more comfortable being nominated but to me it’s going to end up with less biological females being represented and it scares/angers me!
