These photos illustrate the main complaint about M&S and how their policy is unlawful.
Men have a single sex changing room.
Women don't.
Under the guidance this is unlawful (not sure if actually illegal?
).
M&S (and other stores with changing rooms) have to make a choice:
1. Men's and Women's (single sex).
OR
2. Men's and Women's (single sex) PLUS a Unisex changing room.
OR
3. Unisex changing room.
But this option could still leads to legal claims of discrimination against women.
Also - and IANAL - I would think that Unisex rooms would have to be designed similar to Unisex toilets, no gaps, no curtains. They can't simply remove the "Women's" sign and say it's now Unisex.

Heartbreaking article in the guardian today. Apparently there's been a shared understanding of the law for decades until now. Really?? Shared by who? The trans community? Main worries are toilets (as always) and being placed on a mens ward in hospital (more worried about his own discomfort than the actual womens on the ward that he'd rather be on). Also bangs on about how the government can stop this at any time! Is that even true? I thought the law was the law & the Supreme Court was the final stop for this?

They're often referred to as the 'fairer sex' - and now research has confirmed women really are seen as more attractive than men.
haha I’m sure the trans lot will love being told that they’re “women” but their masculine faces are seen as dishonest and aggressive!
There's a reason I stopped reading the Guardian after many, many years.
I am pretty certain M&S have made these changes nationwide. I know for a fact my two most local branches are set out like this - men’s and unisex - because I checked them. The signage may be worded differently though. IIRC my local branches say “men’s changing room” and the rather bizarre “Try On”.(Me too!!

"Trans people will be left with a choice between researching toilet provision every time we go out". So f*cking tone deaf. What do they think women have been doing for years? What do they think disabled people do?

Exactly, on the news yesterday there was a story about the writer Jack Thorne, who is in a wheelchair and he was funding an accessible building and toilets so people with disabilities can go to college and study to be writers, directors etc. He said that when he went to college he would have to drive to a supermarket to use an accessible toilet as there were none available in his college building. That's what inclusion is, providing the most basic facilities for all people to access safely and with dignity to allow them to live their lives. Not indulging in a fetish, a victim complex and some made up oppression. They really are pathetic.
It also struck me how he is working in the 'Arts' and how captured they are in making everything inclusive for trans but they clearly don't give a tit about including people with a disability in their profession, or in society in general.
He's got his rights - and so have all his tr4nny mates.
They can keep their sweaty unwashed hands off OUR rights, the creepy slugs.
They have got toilet provision - the toilets appropriate for their SEX, and they have the protection of the law - they can do what women do, and if men assault them, fight back as well as they can and then report the incident to the police - the law protects them from assault by men just as It protects women - by providing redress if they can catch the assailant.
Remind me, "Alexandra" - how many transwomen have been murdered in the gents' toilets? Oh - none. OooooKay . . . How many have been assaulted? Just for going for a wee? No details to hand, eh. Never mind. You can get back to me. Meantime let me know if you need help researching how many women and girls have been murdered, grape, beaten up in the ladies' toilets by men dressed as women. I'm willing to bet that I can find a list of them faster than you can find your list.
If you don't want to share male provision, do what women have had to do - raise a bit of dosh and build your own toilets, grape crisis centres, domestic violence units, "menopause" support groups, "breastfeeding" groups and so on. We did it, and so can you - especially as society is very keen on helping you with funding - get Jolyon to give you some of the cash he raises to fund his
'exclude' lol. Yes you are excluded from using a service that is not intended for you, feel free to use the one that is though!
This, a thousand times this. I think we've had these things for so long that a lot of people (especially young women) have no concept of the fact that they were fought for and provided by women who recognised the need for them. I think a lot of people think that the government just made these things available because they were needed. No, women campaigned and financed a lot of them - DVUs started as women taking "battered wives" from their community into their own homes. Transpeople want something? bleeping fight for it, finance it and build it for yourselves, duck knows you get enough funding. But, yeah I guess it's much easier to just take from others. bleeping parasites.

I would love to rewrite that whole article, but just put women in place of trans women, to illustrate how it is women who have been losing out, with the loss of female only spaces! And that this SC judgement just rectifies this .
If he was really ill, and needed to be hospitalised, I dont think he would care which ward he was put on!
When I couldnt find the ladies changing room at M & S, i just decided to try the bra on (over my clothes ) on the shop floor! After seeing a woman doing the same at our local Tesco, where all the changing rooms have been removed!!
