I noticed that years ago and stopped giving them any money.

I occasionally give a few quid to homeless people that I see begging in London but am now very picky. The man I chose the other day had a sign saying he was a veteran. He was filthy and had no shoes. He also had an obvious alcohol problem but I'd still sooner buy him a drink to alleviate his suffering than give money to people who genuinely aren't homeless.
Frankly, if I was living on the streets I'd have an alcohol (or drug) problem, too. How else do you shut out the cold and the horror . . . ?

Like you, I don't buy the BI any more but occasionally give to rough sleepers - though usually I'll offer to buy them a sandwich or something.

There used to be a Scottish guy in Newcastle who I occasionally chatted to - he said he wanted to sell enough copies to pay for a hostel bed for the night, anything else was a bonus. He just wanted somewhere out of the elements to sleep in comparative safety.

He'd been peed on by drunks, beaten up etc and knew of someone who'd been set on fire by a gang of lads. Poor buggers. And it's worse for women on the streets, as you can imagine.

BIB

I'd like to see a man identify as a woman purely in order to beat the mit out of Khelif in a woman's bout. A bit like this guy, Avi Silverman, but with punchy fists.

The TW he beat was in tears because apparently Avi "isn't really a woman".
This is a good video. It's shows the trans hypocrisy for what it is. The twit wearing woman face is thick as well as entitled and deluded. More decent men need to step up and school these disgusting men.

Aren't those the batteries that if they catch fire, they are almost impossible to extinguish? I hate what or governments are doing to the countryside so much. They are killing it for money.
yep. The fire in Glasgow was so bad because a vape shop caught fire. There are no additional fire regulations for vape shops currently (bizarrely)

Not wanting to derail but I hate AI. I know it’s problematic for the environment for some reason I don’t understand, but there is no way of knowing what’s real and what’s fake any more.
Edited to add, it’s not only pictures and videos, one thing I really hate is when you Google something now, the first response is always an AI one. Before, you would get a range of responses, but because people are lazy, they are going to read the AI response first, maybe not go any further. Getting back on track, it’s easy to give a one sided opinion. I’ve just tried this, and 🤬

AI uses a lot of water to cool the computers used, the data processing centers they want to build in Scotland brought this to light for me. It’s a huge environmental worry, as the sheer volume they need could potentially lead to a water crisis. The answers generated by AI are biased towards their creators, for now they are for want of a better expression trans fr

I've just got the same result, so I've reported it for being factually incorrect.

Btw @Falkor, thanks for the repost of chubby old Rhys McKinnon falling off his bike. Every bit of that footage is hilarious and I never get tired of watching it.

It's been reported this week that fires caused by vapes in bin lorries and waste management centres in Ireland have cost €100 million in the last three years - really good for the environment

Good work. I feel that this thread has collective power; as we ‚educate‘ (lol I hate the overuse of that word by men’s rights activists, when applied to things which are not educational and rather an opinion) and empower each other to take a stand where we can. 🖤

I agree but it looked as if many of the crowd thought it was funny.
I doubt many of then would find it very funny if it were their son/daughter who was the victim.

If this (and the Epstein float) is an example of modern day Irish humour, then something has gone seriously wrong over there!

Same - and what really pees me off is that if you ask any question gf google now - whether it's about the war in Gaza or what to substitute for fennel in a recipe - like it our not, the first thing at the top of the page is some AI shyte which may or may not be accurate (and if there's a chance it's not, why have it there?). You aren't even given the option to say "No AI, thank you"
I think if you add -ai at the end of your search query in Google, it will not bring up AI answers. I recently switched to using Firefox as my default search engine as you can switch off AI.

Same, it’s impossible not to notice that every Big Issue seller is Romany/Romanian and female and simply doesn’t fit the demographic of a typical homeless person.

Whenever I’m in central London I see identikit “homeless” people, stationed at regular intervals among Oxford St, each holding a cardboard sign with the exact same wording (“Very hungry. God bless”). It’s so blatantly an organised scam and I can’t believe these things are just blithely allowed to happen by successive Governments.
We too have a Romany lady who has sold the Big Issue outside the local shop for over 10 years. Sometimes substituted by a younger lady, who also is homeless and sells the Big Issue in a local town on other days of the week!

I think they may have been moved on, as they havent been around since last summer.

I had been confused about her homeless status, as it seemed bizarre she had been homeless for such an incredibly long time, yet looked well built/well fed and well clothed. I hadnt actually realised that the Big Issue no longer had to be sold by homeless people. That makes me feel a lot better for not donating!

A useful letter on freedom of speech to save for future reference - Forstater gets a mention as do the rights of women re FGM

I wonder if the definition will extend to any of the 73 sects of Islam - and whether positing Sunni, Shia and so on attracts the same censure? It

Especially as they are so tolerant of each other (not) - this happened in Glasgow in 2016
