I’m the opposite - the more I watch, the more I notice the times where she is a bit nasty. The more I watch back episodes I realise I really like Phoebe much more than I did during the original run. She has a hardness but given her past it’s kind of understandable.

I love Phoebe but she does get nastier as the seasons go on but same with Ross more I watch it the more I hate RossThe more I watch back episodes I realise I really like Phoebe much more than I did during the original run. She has a hardness but given her past it’s kind of understandable.
Totally agree with this. They completely ducked with Joeys character. In the beginning he was the cool one who would give chandler and Ross advice etc and they turned him into a bit of an idiot. She definitely has her moments of nastiness but then I think the later series suffered in dialling up all their negative traits to extremes. Joey got more stupid, Monica more shrill, Ross more whiny.
Or when he called out the encyclopaedia salesman for not figuring out he’d be unable to afford the books.Joey definitely had dim moments but I think it was realistic he might not know Russian Revolution Leaders. The utter stupidity he displayed in various scenarios in later seasons were far worse, the French speaking episode for example. Early seasons Joey was shrewd in various ways, getting a pupil to audition a role as gay, assimilating himself into Chandlers workplace with ease etc.
