Just like you said, I meant the situation is not comparable at all, and some people abroad underevaluate some characteristics of the country that imo constitute a real obstacle to the election of Le Pen.

I totally agree with you regarding alternatives -Parti Socialiste and Les Républicains really can't learn- and people being jaded.
Once again many people who don't adhere to Macron's vision will find themselves voting for him.

Is there a reason pension and healthcare fraud might be higher in France? I've heard the same from friends in Greece.

Is anyone else watching the debate starting shortly? I wonder if she'll mess it up like last time.

It's all got a bit predictable with Macron 10 points ahead

I listened to the debate at the radio.
LP was better than 5 years ago obviously but Macron was generally better.

She did a lot better but not great, doubt it will change anyone either way.

Listening on the radio you'd have missed Macrons fists in front of his mouth giving lots of looks that don't dispell the arrogant and condescending accusations.

I gave up a bit over an hour after they'd done the whole Russia topic, sounds like it didn't miss anything that notable.

I am already used to his facial expressions (hers too) and we have all the memes after the debate😂
I already "see" the faces they pull, just listening.

Cba watching the whole debate so just watched the highlights but from what I saw, I think Macron actually came off worse than Le Pen for once

I’m not a fan of either of them (not that I get a say in voting!). Marine has links to Russia and Macron is a bit up his own arse. In France do you only have a choice of 2 people to vote from?

No, there's several rounds. First there's usually like 5? options, then it narrows down to two. The thing is that usually you know which are the two most popular ones so if you're a beaver voter for example, you're likely to start voting for macron from the start to stop LePen. I believe last time I voted only in the second round to do just that.

Oh i see! Thank you for explaining! What’s a beaver voter? Do you vote once in each round?

Oh a beaver voter is someone who only votes (usually for the other candidate) to stop far right candidates from being elected. You can vote in each round if you want but you don't have to. Many people are beaver voters or just don't vote, hence why there's always unhappiness with each president.

Can't vote this time but my mixed race brown butt will always be a beaver voter
Sorry, what does that means "beaver voter"?
Edit : you've already answered 😂
Vote is not only a right though. It's a duty.

There were 12 candidates at first round. These are the finalists.

It's only two rounds.

It’s kind of sad that the choice in Western democracies seems to be degenerating into competitions in choosing the least worst option.

Johnson v Corbyn
Biden v Trump
Macron v Le Pen

200 million+ in population there, and these are the best 6?

we vote for the deputies (Parliament).
So you could get some right wing people like MLP in the parliament?
Not a fan of Macron, hopefully him winning means we don’t have to endure anymore photos showing his chest hair. Don’t really know much about Le Pen apart from being quite far right and has ties to Moscow.

😂 Le Pen leads a party with rotten ideas (to say that kindly). I don't mind the woman but the ideas.

Every elected president needs a majority in deputies parliament (Assemblée Nationale) if he wants to be able to lead its politics (supposedly what he was elected for) as parliament votes the laws. He can do coalitions too with other parties. So can the opposition.
Otherwise he will probably have to do cohabitation (like Mitterrand-Chirac in the 80's).

Melanchon wants to be Prime minister. He said it after the first round, so he wants people to vote massively for his party in June.

LP wants to be more represented too.

So in reality the game isn't finished.
