I was raped by my long term "boyfriend" almost three years ago when I was 20 years old. I stayed with him for a month afterwards because I couldn't get my head around what had happened and how I could live my life without him.

Eventually, I found the strength to leave him and didn't tell anyone about what had happened for 4 months, until I found out that this isn't the first or the second or even the third time he has done this to another woman. Fast forward to the present and I'm awaiting trial dates to put this fucker away.

What boils my blood about the Mason Greenwood thing is that people are questioning why it took her the time that it did to come out about the situation. From my experience, it takes time to come to terms with what has happened and to finally be strong enough to tell your story.

And for all the people who say that it will ruin his career and his life - good. I was terrified of ruining my exes life so much that I was happy to destroy my own to save him. I hope Harriet gets all the help and support she needs and to any other women out there who are going through the same thing, I hope you find the strength and happiness that you deserve ❤

One of my nephews is in the United u23s and knows Mason very well. His gf (and several other gfs) have made comments about MG on multiple occasions and really dislike him. They have never commented about him being violent or abusive in anyway they just make it clear he's very unpleasant.

From what I gather Man Utd have told all players, staff and anyone else not to comment and not to contact MG (or reply if he contacts them). This was from a conversation I was half listening to earlier - family Sunday lunch - as I was more focused on the teenage lads (nephews and step-Sons - male dominated side of the family) conversation and their disgust was heart-warming.

Honestly, they range between 12 and 18 and they were ALL disgusted and when they saw a tweet about HIS career they were like "what about HER life and safety - who are these idiots?" There is hope in terms of the teenagers who idolised him.

I really hope Harriet is getting the support she needs and is being given the love she deserves so she learns his behaviour wasn't acceptable and isn't a reflection on her. I hope she manages to build her self back up and realises for every vile comment she has received so much more love and support. As someone who has been in an abusive relationship previously I can assure you that you are loved, people do care and you will be believed - if you need help, please reach out to someone. I remember the feeling of embarrassment and shame when I first opened up but after that, the overwhelming sense of relief when I realised I wasn't alone.

Sending love to everyone who has been or is going through something similar. You are not crazy, you are not over-dramatic and you are not stupid.

Anyone who says porn is fine and nothing to do with DM and abuse is full of shit and knows NOTHING about the facts of the matter.
Stop trying to be a “cool girl”.

Do some research, read Everyone’s Invited, read some sociological research, rather than just basing your views on your life.

Never before did we have teenagers forcing girls into anal and bjs before even kissing!
“Oh my boy wouldn't do it” Sure Jan!

This is the first generation of men who have had porn at their fingertips 24/7. This isnt the same as finding your dad’s playboy back in the day.
This is choking, beating and forced sex being watched by 12 year olds. Get real. Yeah men have been abusive since the dawn of time but this makes it seem normal and warps minds.

My heart goes out to this young woman. She is very courageous in speaking up.

I'm glad she has all the pictures and recordings as proof because football fans, mainly men, refuse to believe women whenever they accuse their favourite player of any form of abuse.
I just feel sick. Being a woman and a football fan is so draining. These stories are getting more and more common and the attitude towards the victims continues to be gross. Just painfully disgusting. The culture of football is deeply misogynistic.
I just hope she gets the justice she deserves and that she has a good support system around her.

I don’t believe for one minute that Harriet was hacked I think she’s posted it all in a moment of angry hurt emotions and not expected it to blow up like it has then deleted it because reality has hit home of the seriousness of it all, Mason’s probably been on the phone threatening all sorts emotionally blackmailing about how she’s ruined his life and career and she’s probably crying for him thinking it’s all her fault and as for her dad he’s the absolute worst of the worst.

I've thought there's something "off" about Mason for quite a while, but didn't imagine it to be as awful as this. The disconnection with several of the other players, him consistently not being called up to the England squad despite being in good form and it being explained away as "we're waiting for the right time/had discussions with him and he's not ready yet". All quite weird but now it makes sense. I think most people around him will have known about this, or at least known some of it, and have distanced themselves. Hope he never plays for us again.

I think Harriet has done the best thing by putting this on Instagram. Taking it straight to the police would mean most of her evidence would never see the light of day. Even with this evidence, we all know the chances of conviction are low. This all being out in public is probably the most punishment that he will get.

Plus, if it stops one woman from being tempted to go anywhere near this piece of shit in the future then it's a good thing.

she has to dump him. no going back to him just because he is some so called star. if it is true, she should report him and walk out of this relationship
I find your whole take on this situation ignorant and offensive.

Most victims of DV have been ground down and lost their self esteem and confidence. That’s why they stay. It’s not easy to leave sometimes. Maybe they are gaslit, maybe their finances are controlled, or they are scared or maybe they believe they don’t deserve better. That’s why I stayed.

And then of course there is the depressing realisation that even if you have photos of the bruises, maybe no one will believe you. Or will say you stayed because the person is rich, or famous, or handsome and you are just a lowly female. You say yourself you “always had a not so good impression about wags”

She doesn’t HAVE to do anything that you say. I hope she gets out. I hope she has therapy. I hope she finds her worth. But honestly that comment about “no going back because he is some so called star”? That’s shows you think she is merely a starfucker. And you’ve cast doubts on her claim immediately.

I’m out of it now but I’ve told no one in real life for three reasons. Firstly, I’m deeply ashamed that I was in an abusive relationship. I feel stupid and humiliated and wonder why I was so pathetic I stayed. Secondly, I’m still scared of him. If I told people he’d retaliate. And lastly, I don’t think people would believe or care. Look at the response she’s had. I left a whole group of friends to make a break because I never want to see or hear about him again.

I also had photos of bruises but I deleted them because I thought it was hanging onto bad feelings etc, to keep them. But I wish I hadn’t because they validated my feelings and reminded me he was a fucking POS even though most people think he is charming and charismatic.

Despite the MRA idealology on twitter, false accusations of DV and sexual assault are incredibly rare. What isn’t, are unreported incidences of those things.

I think they have been over for a couple of weeks. You know what is scary Mason is 20 and he has that anger and abuse in him at that age the little rat. The poor girl knew his weirdo fans would probably start trying to dismiss those photos calling them fake the audio proves the truth.
I’m already seeing “I hope this doesn’t ruin his career” tweets, how can you hear a man sexually assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her and that be your main concern ffs…

something i’ve found interesting is how some men always revert to ‘imagine if that was your sister/partner/daughter’ in these kind of situations. like they automatically have to imagine it being a relative to have any emotional reaction to it. like why does it have to be contextualised for them to have an emotional response? that’s just basic human decency. it also reinforces the idea that women only hold value in relation to their relationships with men. the genuine lack of empathy some men display actually frightens me.

This right here. You shouldn’t have to imagine it being someone close to you for you to know what is right and what is wrong

Her Dad said this… what a prick.

Why the fuck does her dad sound so chill about it… “the relationship has not been good” - yeah because he’s assaulted her?

I hope she still presses charges. If in the off chance any of her family read this, he will not change, Keep him away from her. He will do worse. please protect your daughter, niece, sister etc.

Young boys are being brought up in a deeply male dominated, misogynistic environment, treated superstars and paid thousands, sometimes millions before they can even grow a proper beard and protected by powerful football clubs who are more concerned about protecting their shiny assets than being decent fucking people... What could go wrong? Something seriously needs to change from within...

My mum was a victim of horrific domestic violence by my Dad in the 80's for many years, when she try to report it the police they threaten to arrest her for wasting their time!
She has never got over it and as a child watching it i can still remember so much.
I just prey that the police do investigate properly and not be swayed just because he's a Man United player with a fancy lawyer.
My heart is breaking for this lady, but she has been so brave and strong. I just hope the people in her life are giving her all the love and support she need.

There's no excuse, not a bad childhood, not exposure to porn, nothing. He knows right and wrong. Or he should. And he should know his behaviour is wrong. End of.

It's really irrelevant why she posted on Insta - apart from the likelihood that the police weren't that interested or useful. If she wanted to shame him, change him... None of that is a crime. The crimes are his raping and his assaulting, not her posting.

I don’t blame Harriet for posting on social media, she’s the same age as me and incredibly brave. I can’t imagine what else has gone on behind the scenes, bless her heart. As someone who was in an abusive relationship, the police never really did anything until the third time I contacted them. I hope she gets the justice she deserves.

Easy access to porn has definitely had a huge impact on Gen Y and Z. It plays a big part in why women remove their pubic hair, in the increase in cosmetic labia surgery. It's why a lot of young men think that anal sex, gang bangs and ejaculating on women's faces is normal. It has a lot to answer for. And as somebody mentioned above, choke sex. Look how many women have been murdered and the men have used 'rough sex gone wrong' as a defence
