Florence Given

If they decide sue they are literally suppressing black voices. It plays into the slumflower’s narrative. Honestly at this point I don’t know what she can do without backlash. Florence has said that she hadn’t seen the other book when she wrote her own, the mutual publishers had no issues with the similarities, she’s admitted that all the ideas were derivative anyway and she’s offered a donation to a black charity (which was refused). I get the point that if she needed a diversity reader than maybe she shouldn’t have written a book but what 24 year old would refuse a deAl to make a book based off their Instagram. The issue to me is that too much social capital is being given to people who lack understanding, experience and knowledge. We love to tear them down when they inevitably fail but the truth is she shouldn’t have been on that pedestal to begin with.

Why is no one blaming the publishing industry that wants to repurpose the same things over and over because they know it will sell over one woman who probably got swept up in the excitement of being a published author.

This is why I think it’s sad that FG is being totally
Villainised.

Do you think FG and diving bell are just sitting back and waiting for it to become old news?
I think that’s exactly what they’re doing, I’d be surprised if they mention it again, they probably only would if Chidera actually resorted to legal action.

I think throughout this Chidera has had some valid points (comparing Florence to a rapist not being one) but I think for many, myself included, latest requests are just too ridiculous.
She can’t honestly expect they would ever do either, so is it all just for show?

I used to be quite a fan of slumflower, but a few years ago when I saw her pushing misandry on Twitter and stealing from sex workers I unfollowed and distanced myself - she's completely unhinged, watching this unfold has been like watching a car on fire. It's even worse that's she's bullying people on Twitter and getting people to pile on for expressing their opinions on her unproblematic behaviour.

There’s a lot of people who feel the same way on the Chidera thread

Honestly where did this woman come from? She’s soooo young and became Instagram famous and got a cult following, I don’t know how? Does she have industry connections or rich parents. Either way, she’s always seemed very disingenuous, the same as her mate Slumflower. I’m not the biggest fan of men in the world but the both of them spout some terrible advice sometimes. I’m not gonna be schooled on men by a woman in her early 20s who turned out to be a bully in school 🖕🏻
can't believe there's a thread on her I absolutely love her 🤣 but to answer this question she went to the London college of fashion and utilised her instagram almost every art and fashion student at that university has a huge following and meet influential people on campus etc.. she then dropped out and kept posting her art so her following grew from there and in 2019 she got even bigger when she sent Megan barton Hanson one of her shirts and she wore it on the British tv show this morning. You don't need industry connections anymore Instagram + social media opens many doors and it's something Gen-z really understands

I know nothing about all the tea with CE/FG & DB ( FG I followed for a short time in 2020 before unfollowing her as her stories where she kept shouting about growing and learning from therapy visits ) as well as dancing semi naked all over her fancy flat became too annoying. From what I have read on this thread it seems that CE has a case of sour grapes.
Anyway the reason I came to this thread was because I follow another IG influencer ( American / cis/ white ) who wrote a diet book. Who has in the last 24 hours posted that FG name is mentioned on her amazon book page . She then mentioned that CE had a post about FG ( and I came to Tattle ) to see if anything has been mentioned.. so point being - is this all stemming from the marketing / publishers? It’s odd that FG has been mentioned at all as this book is about diet culture ( and not feminism).

so from her stories I can't really work it out, is she saying that this is Florence's team doing this or her own UK publisher trying to jump on the sales of a popular book?

Even in that Caroline Dooner's stories she says "I just heard about florence bleeping over the slumflower" but isn't everyone giving florence a little too much credit? I don't know how these influencer book deals work but I highly doubt florence had anything much to do with the marketing (or even writing) of her book. Is it not just her face and her artwork in a hardback book for a publisher to make a pretty penny out of.

I wasn’t sure either - it sounded to me like someone has copy and pasted the line and therefore this was sent to retailers who have published what was sent. I have no idea if Caroline Dooner has just believed what she read from the slumflower grid post and has added 2+2 and got 7. ( would suggest so going off her stories / grid posts in the past).

If anything she's making sales out of using Florence's name, surely? "If you enjoyed FG you'll LOVE this!" is literally a sales tactic lmao, it's driving traffic to her page so literally creating revenue for her. Why complain lol.

Exactly, it’s hardly a new tactic in publishing. Books are often advertised (if not always to the public but maybe in press releases) as “For fans of ....”.
Although I get it might be a bit annoying to have another authors name in the title, especially given everything surrounding Florence recently.
