Florence Given

Is she really taking credit for basic feminist principles? Saying she coined them in 2016? The lies she’s telling herself is getting beyond embarrassing
Init lmao, acting like her tweets and salty shitposts weren't just recycled clichés. It's so embarrassing to watch. I think this girl might have singlehandedly ended her own career, everyone with any credibility on the platform is avoiding her like the plague and the only people taking her seriously are knock-kneed, spineless white girls riddled with white guilt who are terrified of being cancelled themselves. If you have to bully and emotionally blackmail people into supporting you, you're probably not at the helm of a worthy cause.

I mean bullying people into agreeing with you is kind of Florence's whole vibe though....

So after telling people not to harass other Black women and instead go after silent white influencers, Chidera has apparently changed her mind and is now blasting Munroe Bergdorf for liking tweets in support of Florence (including tweets suggesting that Chidera is doing all of this for financial gain).

The hilarious thing is that if Chidera hadn't brought attention to this I'd never have seen Munroe liking the tweets, but now that I have I feel 100% more justified in my suspicions 😂 Munroe liking the tweets adds legitimacy to the criticisms of Chidera being put forward. Good on Munroe for being true to her beliefs.

I included this last screenshot of Chidera continuing to demand "reparations" from Florence in lieu of "cancelling" her, it fully just reinforces that this is all a huge cash grab lmao.

When they say don't send abuse. Do they appreciate they have a lot of followers and while some won't send abuse, there's a lot of others that will because all of this will stir them into action. That's intentional.

Exactly. Also she put "don't harass Munroe" in the smallest bleeping font possible, right at the bottom of the post. Munroe is literally recovering from gender-affirming surgery, the last thing she needs rn is getting dragged online by some jumped-up moneygrabber. Chidera knows realistically that some of her following will go after Munroe and still decided it was appropriate to post that. "Protect black trans woman at all costs" my a.

She says she "doesn't want to cancel" Florence but that is literally what she's trying to do by posting all these stories? She's attempting to drag someone publicly and ruin their career or image at least. Inciting people to pile onto someone is abusive and gross. If this was a legit case of copyright, go through the proper channels don't just spend hours each day post it ng stories about it.

I'm not so sure I believe too much that "florences book always shows up when you search for slumflower's book"

It doesn't for me even if I type in exactly what Chidera did ie "Chidera Eggerue Feminist Book" which makes me think that Chidera has googled Florence's name so damn much or been talking about her online so much in relation to her own work that google has just adapted the algorithm to show Chidera what she's actually most interested in.

Search engines work like this no? It shows different results for different people based on where you are and what you've previously search so..... That says a lot about what Chidera has been searching for lately!!!

Literally just now - she should stop talking about her so often - she mentions her name so much that no wonder the google algorithm is picking up on linking the two.

I think Chidera is being unreasonable. Although structural racism may play a part, i don’t believe this is all about race.

Also, the way I see it shouldn't stuff like reparations be a structural solution rather than just...demanding and guilting individual people into giving you money lol.

Yes I honestly think Chidera is going too far!! To me she sounds anti-white... I’m a huge advocate for Black Lives Matter and fighting against the social injustice we see, but calling FG a rapist??! Saying all white people are racist?!

I know this subject is SO sensitive but I think the powers at play between the books are not black woman VS white woman.
it is one book vs another similar book

FGs book is correctly referenced and also includes a lot of unique first hand experiences from FG, there are many softwares to detect plagiarism and the two texts are similar but different enough.

Honestly, getting so annoyed at Chidera claiming she invented feminism and being anti-men?!!

As you all know, this is quite soft language for Chidera, but im sure I’m not the only one who thinks the way she is going about this is unwarranted and extreme?

Imagine all authors with similar books did this

I think there is a reality that Florence Given probably has become as popular as she has because she is white, middle class, pretty and slim. That’s not to discount the work she has done but she is palatable to the masses because of her privileges, I’m not sure that’s entirely a bad thing as more people will be exposed to the ideas than if she had not made the book.

Her brand has definitely evolved from being about her art work to being about herself eg her dancing in her apartment etc etc. I’m not sure feminism is really about that if I’m honest and perhaps the problem is Florence so strongly brands herself as a feminist and she needs to just brand herself as an influencer who sometimes talks about social issues.

I can see why slumflower is frustrated but I don’t think it makes sense to direct her anger at Florence Given because it’s not really about individuals it’s about society as a whole rewarding someone like Florence Given but not Chidera when she made something very similar and that’s not about either of them as individuals but more the way society treats people.

I think Chidera should address the fact she has also taken ideas from others (there’s sex workers and a dating coach who she has allegedly taken ideas from)

As for the books I ordered What a Time to be alone when it first came out, for me I much preferred it to Florence Givens book which I also purchased. But that may be to do with where I was at knowledge wise at each point. I noticed the similarities but honestly didn’t find that surprising. That’s capitalism isn’t it, it a certain type of book sells then you can expect someone to make something similar a few years later. There will probably be another book like both their books in a year or two.

Yeah, I think it's her rhetoric that gives me pause...it's so antagonistic and tbh just turns people off. Agree with what you're saying.

She's a joke. Is anyone calling her out on this bull or are people too scared of being cancelled?

As far as I know no. Munroe has liked a tweet saying how it is purely money grabbing.

I am honestly shocked she is asking the book to be pulled! Who does she think she is... a publisher is not going to pull a book without legal grounds. She is not taking action in the real world though is she she is just staying on Instagram
