Yes! You would expect them to say something, but then? Behind the scenes, who knows if they want to get involved/are waiting for things to clear.

I guess they might not want to feel like they HAVE to pick 'a side'?
Also they might have signed NDAs with Diving Bell as part of their contracts?

I can't believe she copyrighted a font. Has anyone pointed out that her entire aestheic looks like an Austin Powers film?

The vibe I’ve always got from her is it’s almost as if she thinks dressing like she’s from the 70s and listening to Fleetwood Mac makes her ~quirky~ and super cool

Do you hun, but her entire vibe is pretentious 🤷🏻‍♀️

THIS!!! I won’t go into my own experience but I shall say that it took me over a year to get out of a manipulative, violent and controlling relationship. No amount of ‘dump him’ slogans would’ve made me leave him. It takes TIME and COURAGE for people to conduct a plan to escape that person. Of course, I am just speaking about my own experience but no woman I know who has been in the same situation has ever just got up and left because some girl on Instagram was telling them to do so.
This resonates so much with me!!!!! I agree, “dump him” distresses me too for similar reasons.

I just wish Chidera would put her money where her mouth is and sue for intellectual property violation. Imagine the victory and how much it would mean to people. It's not like she doesn't have the means, as well.

But I have a feeling this will just remain internet drama. Mostly bc both of their books are carbon copies of the graphics and quotes that have floated round tumblr/ pinterest/ insta since before these kids had even sat their GCSEs lmao. Neither of them can claim to have done anything original so this entire thing is pointless.

There are so many better, more poignant examples of black women's work being appropriated by white people, and other instances of racial injustice/ microagressions, but the internet doesn't wanna hear about those bc ooh look, influencers are fighting!

Black minds matter, who Florence has referenced in her PR response, have come out with a statement supporting Chidera and also said that they cannot sincerely accept the donation Florence references in her statement

I do wonder what’s currently going on behind the scenes. Chidera is (rightly so) not letting this die whereas Florence is remaining very silent other than her constructed PR spiel.
All of this is coming to light around a person who was incredibly vocal around the BLM movement and put an enormous amount of pressure on people to have difficult conversations with families etc but is now just not putting any of it into practice. Where is the owning up to her mistake? Where is she when push comes to shove and a difficult conversation needs to be had with the people she’s wronged?
I don’t think this is going to be swept under the carpet.

Agreed. The whole “dump him” rhetoric I think only can be applied to women who are ‘seeing’ someone, it’s not serious (no children or property involved) and it wouldn’t take long to get over the split. Most people can’t just “dump him” because life isn’t that simple for many different reasons!

Chidera reposted this DM to loudbossygross about nobody else in DB (specifically Gina here) speaking up / supporting her. I’m shocked none of them have. Maybe DB sent them a message warning/telling them not to? Still sucks they haven’t.
Agree been thinking this for days. Bodiposipanda too and Munroe Bergdorf. Makes me sad cause I've looked up to these people for years, now seems they are not as selfless as they make out.

Munroe Bergdorf met up with Caitlyn Jenner, who was (I don’t know if still is) a massive trump supporter at the time so I wouldn’t necessarily look to her as always being a good judge of character. Don’t get me wrong I’m a fan of Munroe but she has hung around with problematic people. But maybe her and Chidera fell out cos I thought they were friends and that’s why she’s not said anything?

Honestly I've been sus of Florence ever since she went on this Pride trip with Virgin last year. I found the whole thing so tasteless. Thousands of pounds spent to 'celebrate' pride with Virgin when that money could have been spent on helping out queer people who disproportionately experience homelessness, etc. She easily could have used this as an opportunity to call out the event, but she didn't, which I find very reflective of the way she views things.

I used to really like Florence but since BLM I’ve definitely looked for more perspectives outside the white, middle class, conventionally attractive influencer bubble. However, I don’t think she did copy Chidera. Personal opinion but I think their covers don’t really look alike and a book about feminism by a young woman is going to explore similar themes. It’s good that Chidera has raised the issue of bias towards books by white writers and they are valid criticisms of her management, publishers and society in general. But she has not yet said why she decided to leave her management and with her now going after Gina Martin it just seems like a personal vendetta. I also find it interesting that I have only seen 1 other black woman publicly support Chidera. There is obviously so much more going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about!

Chidera has upset other black influencers via Twitter over the past year so I’m not surprised she has little support. The one thing that did it was her saying she didn’t care about male suicide.

Ngl to only see Chidera's comments as 'you copied me' rather than 'white influencers, including Florence Given, profit off of the work of black women because of people's inherent racism' is intentionally ignorant imo.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of Chidera, but I think she's got some good points. And if Floss's money was where her mouth was, she'd drop diving bell for the horrendous way that they handled this. But I don't see that happening.
I agree with the overall sentiment about white supremacy but Chidera is literally demanding a cheque from Florence and has her fans spamming FG's page demanding the same. There is defo a lot of "you copied me" here 😂

That said, Diving Bell have gone about handling this completely the wrong way and it certainly wouldn't hurt FG's image (or that of any other influencer in the liberation work sphere ) to drop them or at least wield her influence to get them to behave themselves and make things right.

Hard agree. Will be interested to see how this pans out esp with Gina alluding that there's more to the story behind the scenes. With the amount of pressure on influencers to say the right things at the right moment for the sake of optics, I don't buy that all of the powerhouse liberation influencers (including black women like Munroe) are staying silent bc of white supremacy and nothing more. They all know how bad that looks within their spheres of influence. Most of them would rather speak up out of pure self-preservation - there has to be something else at play.

It's raised some really valid wider cultural discourse, but on the individual level I smell a rat. 🐀
