Has anyone seen theslumflower’s stories regarding Florence’s book? Interesting considering both their books are like Pinterest quotes in book form with pictures😂 but wonder how she will handle it
Wow!!! They look so similar. I doubt she will address it she will just carry on ignoring it like other things she can’t be assed addressing.
What the hell theslumflower book even has the ‘dump him’ in it which is most of FG’s persona

So shocking I knew I remembered them being quite close like reposting each other’s stories etc and theslumflower’s quote is on the front of her book!

Honestly where did this woman come from? She’s soooo young and became Instagram famous and got a cult following, I don’t know how? Does she have industry connections or rich parents. Either way, she’s always seemed very disingenuous, the same as her mate Slumflower. I’m not the biggest fan of men in the world but the both of them spout some terrible advice sometimes. I’m not gonna be schooled on men by a woman in her early 20s who turned out to be a bully in school 🖕🏻
I have a feeling she comes from Camden and definitely from a middle class/upper class family, so theres some wealth there which could explain the privileged arrogance she's got. Sounds peak but I'd never listen to anyone under the age of 25 for dating and relationship advice 😅 .

Did you see Slumflower calling her out on her stories for copying her book? I bought the slumflowers book and honestly its nothing new, a lot of graphics more than writing, and the things she was writing about are pretty basic and have been said a million times before. Way better as a coffee table book then an actual self help book. I think I learnt my lesson with influencer books...

They have the same management too. Slumflower said the quote was about Florence given in general but has been taken out of context and put on front of Florence givens book.

Although apparently Chidera has stolen a lot of her ideas from sex workers hasn’t shown accountability. So the whole thing is a mess..

I hope Florence addresses it... it doesn’t look good at all if she says nothing

OMG! I was just coming here to ask that! 😂My thoughts exactly too- "their books are like Pinterest quotes in book form with pictures" 😂🤣🤣.LITERALLY 🤣I was so disappointed when her book arrived and I realised it took me only half an hour to read😂 Idk if it was the advertising or what, but they really tried to pull that off as an inspirational self help book, when rly like you said its pretty much a quote picture book💀

I get what theslumflower is saying about copying but really half the stuff she's got in her book and the subjects she writes on, have been said before many times. So I don't really think its for any of these twenty babies to try and claim their opinions as the original source.

I’m sure she comes from Plymouth.
really? gosh i pegged her to be one of those awful hampstead middle class girls, seems tho the plymouth ones are just as bad, lol.

Not sure if anyone has seen, but there is a lot going around on Twitter about FG having been a massive bully at school, despite her previously saying that she was the one bullied.

I got really into her art in 2018, and then quite quickly realised that she never spoke about class and that her whole feminism was very self centred.

I unfollowed her after her book launch. I think she's a good example of an influencer who got a book deal, who is trying to paint themselves as something else. I'm sure I saw that she didn't even read The Beauty Myth until like last year, yet wrote a whole book about women not owing anyone their appearance?? Wild.

When I saw quotes from her book, I was like right, this stuff has been around for decades from black feminists in the 1970s and 1980s. Why is this 20 year old white woman a millionaire because of ideas that predate her by forty years?

FG was sort of like my introduction into feminism and when I first read her book it was all new to me. But now my eyes have been opened to the fact that she is not doing anything revolutionary but actually she is heavily influenced by other people and passes it off as her own work!

Does anyone have any suggestions of better feminist accounts to follow?

I’m not gonna lie im very much enjoying seeing her being scrutinised, I’ve waited a long time for this. Everything about her is performative and nothing is real. She never acknowledges her privilege and like others have said, doesn’t mention class.

Slumflowers book is just as plagiarised tbh from sex workers and isn’t very good either. But she raised good points by pointing out that google favours White women over black.

Honestly, I have no suggestions. I feel like being an instagram activist is antithetical to movements like feminism. Instead I would say read work from academics and actual writers. Or listen to podcasts/lectures on youtube. There’s lots of good content out there that is academically sound and still accessible/easy to understand that isn’t boiled down into aesthetic activism.

I actually have both books and they’re both great if you want an early opinion on the topic of feminism , but there is definitely more available out there. That said, Chidera raises some great points about race and class that Florence doesn’t - the google search particularly raises a really important issue, especially since the BLM movement that many influencers were all over and then suddenly forgot about as the years ending. Honestly, both books are coffee table books.

I’ve searched her name on Twitter about 2 weeks ago and couldn’t believe that no one was talking negatively about her so I came on here 😂 feel like she might believe that she has the best intentions but I think she’s got caught up in the whirlwind of being a best selling “novelist”. Reality is she’s just repackaged ideas that are 40 years old with some pretty illustrations and even her aesthetic is heavily influenced by the slum flower. Think she needs to address it ASAP because the longer she stays quiet the worse it looks!
I’d deffo say that her book is far more “self help” than revolutionary feminism, I recently read invisible women which was amazing at demonstrating how much the world we live in is designed for white men - I recommend it!

Roxane Gay is really fantastic for accessible but really intelligent and nuanced discussion. She is hilarious too.

Yes to this - the collection ‘Not That Bad’ about grape culture is an absolutely heartbreaking and difficult read, but it is such a worthy read of anyone‘s time, whether you’ve experienced trauma or not, it’s a discussion that often is gendered and it doesn’t have to me. Would definitely recommend.

I've never seen a more obvious example of huge power going to someone's head. She's grim, her ego is unreal. 'The Floss Effect', 'a term coined by Florence Given' etc. How self centred can someone be to demand constant recognition and plaster their name all over a movement. It was always about the money, pushing her own agenda and ultimately going after fame and popularity. Glad she's been outed as the hypocritical low life she really is

moya_lm did a really good article on the issue, but also in her IG post about the article it says “Chidera has reportedly been dropped by her management over this”. Wonder if it’s true, they’ve both been silent all day.
