I’m sure she’d give it all back and more to have him. This feels a bit too harsh.

A lot of us were invested in Elle, rooting for her and her happy ending. It’s hurts to not be included on the journey after, of course we have no right and I’m sure there’s an element of self preservation from Elle. But even just a touch of her normal insta- the interiors, fashion, Boris content, would be nice.

personally I feel better equipped (though I hope never to need to) to support a friend/ loved one through baby loss by understanding elle’s pain from losing teddy. I’m sure that was her end goal really and she’s achieved that.

It is a bit like being ghosted by a friend however, but calling things vile and sick and she used her dead baby are pretty horrid things to say and it may be worth taking a step back and thinking about what she actually went through and how you would feel if god forbid that was you.
This exactly sums up how I feel about her too - I think she’s achieved what she wanted from her account and in her life but it feels a little off to be ‘ghosted’ as you say.

I completely understand what you're saying but it was Elle herself who blurred the lines.

By accepting stuff like a washing machine and a huge chunk of the White Company catalogue (on the premise of calling it "work" - what a joke) not to mention numerous gifted stays, wine, clothes, candles, jewellery, Chelsea Flower Show and Wimbledon tickets - all of which she can more than afford to pay for herself - she monetised her account, an account primarily about baby loss awareness.

It never sat right with me. Ever.

And I bleeping hate pugs! They are gross.

Totally agree

I think Instagram is full of people monetising their life in one way or another. Elle may have started out using her platform to raise awareness as many do but they get swept along once the offers start rolling in. I follow bowel babe who had stage 4 cancer (I followed as I had cancer few years ago). She isn’t in the best of health at the moment but still plugs sweaty Betty whilst holidaying in the south of France at her holiday home. I get frustrated by the fact that these women are wealthy but still get so much free stuff when the normal woman in the street has to struggle through their losses/illnesses with very little if any support

Without their initial privileged backgrounds, there wouldn’t be all the offers. It’s a wealth breads wealth cycle yet again.

Obviously I wish Elle nothing but happiness, but I think she has been disingenuous in the way she’s gone about advertising etc and it doesn’t sit well with me.

True. I've been diagnosed with MS for twenty years, medically retired and had to really fight for a year to get the PIP I'm entitled to following the changeover from DLA. That said, I would never, ever in a million years run an Instagram account about having MS because living with a chronic illness is boring most of the time and I hate the words "warrior", "brave" and "journey".

I really liked her. Then she did an advert for see tickets promoting spice girl tickets and I was just done.
I wish her no harm and I am really pleased she has her baby girl but I no longer follow her.
I have friends who lost their child and they fundraise, have never taken anything for free for themselves. there was some things she said in the book that didn't sit right with me about how people spoke to her etc. Everyone is different but I hope she has spoken to those involved before publishing it for the world to see.

It is so unfair. I can understand what you have been through regarding the DLA/pip changeover. I had to sit beside my daughter who was born with a life limiting heart condition for 2 hours (telephone consultation) whilst she was asked all sorts of obvious questions by someone who was not medically trained for her application for Pip. She’s 16!! It was emotionally and physically draining for her and me. Surely confirmation from your consultant of certain medical conditions is enough?

As for the “warriors” they can just bugger off. Bowel babe mentioned a few weeks ago that she had been told that if she didn’t have chemo now she would have a matter or weeks not months to live which I could even begin to understand how awful that must have been BUT then her husband and kids went to France for a holiday? She couldn’t join them due to treatment but why would they go and leave her if things were so bad? I truly hope she gets some positive results but I just don’t get the swing of good news then bad with an advert for sweaty Betty thrown in too!

I think she used her followers as a crutch to help her feel better. Then ditched then when she had no purpose for them without thinking that she could indeed be a crutch for some of them.

I struggle with the ads too. I dont think it would be for me if i thought it was my last family holiday to be plugging mattresses and gym wear.

Exactly, it’s so strange.
I wonder if these women just crave attention really.
I think they must lack something in their life to be honest. Why does every minute of your life have to be recorded. Just live your life and put the camera down.

I do appreciate a lot of instagrammers are raising awareness like bowel babe is for bowel cancer. But I think their is a line that shouldn’t be crossed. It’s a bit weird when you see them putting up photos of themselves crying with a comment saying “just had bad news”. Blimey! When I was diagnosed with cancer the last thing I thought about was catching it on camera. I just sat holding my husbands hand crying. It was a really intimate and emotional time. I didn’t need to share it - not even with other family members. The advertising whilst they are poorly also baffles me. Some of these women don’t need the money either. Just enjoy your family time x

Couldn’t agree more 👏🏼 Raising awareness and showing the reality of your experiences great and must help lots of people, but having an Instagram story as your first thought in some of these moments is baffling.
And profiting from such things is just wrong, in my opinion. Especially when you’re already wealthy and can afford to use your position for good, without earning a few quid in the process.
I hope you’re ok though, with your diagnosis. Sending love ❤

Aaw thank you! Yes I’m good - 4 years clear 🙌.

I’m so glad there are others who think like me. I always felt guilty for questioning some of these accounts but I know it’s not just me xx

It is a bit like being ghosted by a friend however, but calling things vile and sick and she used her dead baby are pretty horrid things to say and it may be worth taking a step back and thinking about what she actually went through and how you would feel if god forbid that was you.

When you put yourself out there so much, sharing so much private information and photos, so openly on social media, you’re going to have to take the good with the negative.

When you claim to be raising awareness to baby loss but then do a swipe up to purchase the £400 Elizabeth Scarlett bedsheets you’ve been kindly gifted, or the M&S dinner party #AD’s and free Joules weekend events etc that are dotted in between, you’ve blurred the lines in my opinion.

I’m sure there’s more, I recall there being the standard kind of influencer begs, such as tagging the white company in a story when she damaged her trainers, asking for help from her followers to get the scuff out. The bakery posts where you say you’ve bought it yourself and just want to support a company online but you know you’re going to get a freebie just by doing that!

I unfollowed after all of that because it’s didn’t feel right. I didn’t really get the account at that point.

I wish her well. I think she is doing the right thing in not sharing Olivia on social media. I don’t post intimate details or photos of my family and if I want something I buy it, I don’t beg, hint or tag an account for a freebie. Instagram has contributed to a horrible side of social media, where Instagrammers are flogging their kids privacy for a free pair of shoes. It’s all so very sad really!

I have found it really strange that Elle went from posting multiple times a day to nothing! Then when we had our 4 day heatwave 3 weeks ago Liv from ultimate girl gang (who I can’t stand but hate follow 🤣) tagged Elle saying something like ‘influenced by Elle FTEN, you’re right it’s awesome’ about an air con unit. This made me think Elle still posts but just to the circle of ‘insta huns’ not the riffraff like like us!! Instagram is an addiction, she posted so much that I don’t believe she just stopped! I am glad I now see less of Boris!

I reckon you’re right, presumably she has a private account for the ✨ huns✨ And now she’s done with the other 169,950 😂
