I just read through this thread. Holy shit (to put it mildly)
Emma having BPD and being so genuinely horrible in the public eye stresses me out and pisses me off in equal measure. I also have BPD and I get it, I understand how it feels for her, and I know why she acts the way she does because I have done the same. I read through this whole thread, including the exchanges with the ex-stan, and I feel like I understand her, whilst still being furiously angry that she'd treat someone that way.
People with BPD already have such a bloody hard time of it - people with any kind of personality disorder generally do. We're called crazy, manipulative, mean, abusive, because our brains aren't hardwired the 'normal way'. But then when a public figure/influencer (which Emma still is, she has fans, she's got power) stands up and does this shit publicly, then hides behind her mental illness, it affects the general consensus of people with that mental illness. People that might have been more sympathetic before now might see the negatives in someone who not only does not attempt to regulate, but broadcasts their splits and meltdowns online to an audience of thousands, and reframe their previous ideas of BPD because of it.
If Emma genuinely cannot regulate herself, which I would understand, she should not be on the internet. She should not be a public figure. That's clearly what she wants for herself, but the longer this continues the more harm she will do to herself, and to the BPD/personality disorder community. Kinda like Beckie J Brown and her trichotillomania, if you want a relevant comparison.
It's really painful as both an ex-fan and fellow BPD haver (survivor?? sufferer??? idk what to say) to see Emma acting this way and not caring about the repercussions. And then blaming everything on the BPD is just playing into what everyone thinks of us anyway. BPD may be the cause, but you didn't do anything to stop it, and therefore it's still your fault, Emma.
