During her last pregnancy she really made it look like her HG only appears when it’s convenient. I think her talking about it in a way is useful. Certainly more realistic than the instahuns that make it look like everything is a breeze.
She seems more aware of her privilege too - she acknowledged it multiple times. I’d rather her showing that pregnancy is really a wild ride than making it look like it’s a walk in the park.

I dunno… most things I can call her out on but to me she looks like she’s trying really hard to look happy and “well” in that video. I could never have worn that outfit pregnant (I’ve had four) but the further along in each I got the more confident I felt. Until the last two weeks which is full on whale territory. But the reason I couldn’t have worn it is a) I never had a figure like she has pregnant or not and b) I’d have worried too much what people say so my view is All power to her.. if her meds are working and she’s feeling ok and that outfit makes her feel fab then she should wear it. She looks incredible! Just because I wouldn’t have felt great in it or had an awful time doesn’t mean she shouldn’t live life 🤷‍♀️

I reckon it probably took a lot and were due some crying and barfing videos (my least fav) but I can’t condemn her for this one…

I massively don’t condemn her for wanting to wear it or how she looks in it, but I am just boggled by how she can move like that with HG. My sister-in-law had HG and genuinely, any kind of swaying like that would have finished her. Bending or swaying makes me puke (and I don’t have HG). I also don’t get how her meds work for a fun time but not for more basic everyday stuff. I actually commend her for being able to get through a party and produce some nice still celebratory images for her friend who’s had such a tit time (which is different from also bopping about while you’re getting ready), but I guess in this one I didn’t see her *trying* to look happy and well so much.

Probably I am being harsh, and I appreciate the check. But it just feels so weird to have all the crying barfing content with lots of emphasis on how this is “real” and “what her life is like all the time”, and how loads of women are messaging her saying this is how they are, and then she’s suddenly like this, any pregnancy instahun, without eg “I was lucky and by doing xyz I was able to get through tonight”. BUT I am hormonal and puking and get ready for work like a zombie so who knows. Hopefully she feels better generally for her and her kid’s sake, though that’s unlikely given HG.

Agree, I remember watching Susie Verrill suffering through HG with her pregnancies and although she is also an enormous twit, she had HG so bad and there didn’t seem any off switch until she had the children.

Fuuuuuuck me she is so privileged it's unreal. How would she cope if she had a normal job that required you to go in somewhere regardless of HG. Most people cannot lay in bed feeling sorry for themselves for days on end. They have to get on with it and puke in the bogs at work 🙄
she reminds me a lot of Florence Given.
There’s a certain type of Rich Posh White Girl Feminist that’s almost cookie cutter.

she lectures into the camera, takes selfies, co-opts messages from other demographics, ignores the way unearned privilege is the reason she has a soapbox at all, spews the same, clichéd, reductive “empowering” soundbites while yelling into the camera because she’s so quirky and silly. She always has a way of sort of lecturing people and doling out advice despite having had no real life experience or having had to really ever graft at anything. Talks about body positivity but almost always has a traditionally acceptable body type.
Does a sad face into the camera or has a moan now and again because to her privileged, out of touch self, this is what being relatable means to them, and having a bad day feeling a bit sad is the closest they’ll get to some struggle in their lives.

Thinks “I’m so excited about the woman I’m yet to become” or “they taught us to fear witches but not the people who burned them” is profound and meaningful philosophic thought.

I love this!!! There has to be a name for bleeps like this. I hate them all! Nelly London is the same.

That latest reel with the gross “we control your bodies” voiceover… the audio is disgusting, more disgusting and frightening that I can express. But I also think it’s gross that she’s in her underwear cosplaying as some vulnerable little dystopian American Handmaid, all for-eyed fear, when she’s a millionaire’s kid safe in London. She’s not some terrified little forced-pregnancy oppressed woman of the kind that genuinely does exist all over the world! She’s a super rich influencer! And in her follow up she boasts about fighting for her daughters’ rights… this performative nonsense does nothing. I didn’t think I could see a response to the vile incel rhetoric that made me feel irritated, but she’s managed it.

I do get what you mean and it is grating when rich people act as though they’re equally affected by politics, but Trump’s stance on abortion and healthcare in general is abhorrent.

He’s the most powerful man in the world and although we’re not in America, his views and policies on bodily autonomy are terrifying. It sets an extremely dangerous precedent and Em is right to address it.

There will be rich, pregnant influencers in America who will be affected by the new laws and being wealthy doesn’t mean get to keep your human rights while the poor suffer.

Trump’s stance on healthcare and abortion is absolutely abhorrent; her post does nothing to combat it though, it just centres… not even her own experience, but a kind of play-acted experience of gazing up at some imaginary Big Man (imaginary for her).

Being rich does mean you keep many more of your rights for much longer, or can find ways to evade/work around some laws, particularly in an insurance-based system with laws varying by state, thriving off-prescription medical industries in neighbouring countries etc.

noones saying it’s not awful though.

but it’s incredibly self indulgent that she’s taking a very real anxiety and fear and putting this to a video of herself in her undies. The fact she has literally nothing to fear (she lives in the Uk, has no connection to this. She’s wealthy and married and protected by anything happening in the states) makes this feel really gross to me. What is this achieving exactly?

she’s using peoples’ anxieties and fears for likes.

and seriously, why do these types always, always have to be in the undies?! Nelly London does it too.

I’m not seeing all the horror in the comment section that she’s been talking about for the past couple of days… am I missing something?

Yeah, there’s been some bile-filled political debate, but I haven’t seen comments aiming hate at her!

that’s what I mean.

kinda feels like she’s made a broad political discourse about her. She made a post where _she_ positioned herself in the middle of it, whilst in underwear(?!) despite having very little to do with her. And now apparently there are lots of negative comments under it, but I can’t see any.

it feels like she’s making herself the victim in a situation she is very far removed from, and which she inserted herself into without any real links.

its like… of course you can feel appalled by what’s being said in the mainstream media… but why are you making a reel about it that focuses on _your_ far removed experience, while in your underwear, then claim to be a victim of hate because of supposed comments that aren’t anywhere to be found… all while ignoring the *actual* women who exist and live under that political framework.

it’s the ultimate in self centredness. And achieves very little, but I guess she feels she can clap herself on the back for her bit of er, activism.

They’ve got a point! She (and other influencers) always have to overthink various issues and have an opinion on topics that they don’t need to, when did we all this start and become a thing??

no it’s not Em. You’re not an activist. You’re not a spokesperson for anything. You’re a sales person. You just use causes to make your sales. Because people are more likely to buy from people they think are morally aligned with them. More likely to trust them.

You sell Symprove, Huel, erborian, Beautypie etc etc and anything else if the money is right.

you convince yourself it’s noble so you don’t have to examine the lack of originality or purpose in what you do.

you sit and cry in your nice big London house you’re able to own because of rich parents, and feel unsatisfied because most of it is unearned wealth, and your job is inherently dishonest. And you decide that posting your medical history, acne flare ups, “underwhelming” days and tears somehow compensate. Because apparently that’s all that honesty means to you.

it’s deluded thinking. She’s deluded. And she’ll stay deluded because she’s surrounded by wealth that shields her from reality.

Why is she ALWAYS in her pants??
in case anyone forgets she’s pregnant?

It’s snowing outside FGS Em, put a jumper on?! The point still stands when you’re fully dressed?

there’s a writer in the comments who is plugging her book on gender inequality in healthcare but does Em highlight that? Or even like it? Nope, sure it’s defs more impactful to take a selfie in your undies doing your makeup.
