Academically, Dr Goyal was a Principal Investigator at the University for Manchester for 5 years, where he led three clinical studies, was a PhD supervisor and Masters supervisor. He moved to General Internal Medicine at Oxford University Hospital where he also lectured on the Oxford University Medical School undergraduate course. Dr Goyal is currently a Consultant in Internal Medicine in Lorn and Islands Hospital in Scotland. His research interests are focused on Health Systems with a current focus on clinical care in COVID-19.

Yikes. There’s no way this guy should be practicing medicine in the UK (or anywhere else either) if he’s going around claiming the MMR vaccine causes autism.
If this is the sort of nonsense he was coming out with a few years ago, but has since stopped, I suspect he probably ended up receiving the equivalent of a cease and desist letter from the GMC and decided it wasn’t worth destroying his career over.

The starting salary is shit. It could be your very first day on the ward, and the rota means you’re the one holding the crash bleep. So much risk, so much stress.

I am genuinely shocked at that starting salary! Going to show that to our trainees when they whine about the starting pay straight from the school here!

Medical doctors can become professor by dint of being research active. This doesn’t necessarily involve a PhD, even one by publication as opposed to thesis.

Non-medical professors will have a PhD and will have had to work through a university’s very tough promotion framework.
