As I sit here and eat my tea (lasagne and salad) I wondered if anyone actually manages to eat their recommended 5 a day?? Please share hints and tips to help us stragglers 😩

Never manage it! I really dislike salad, struggle with veg and am fussy with fruit!
🤨
My whole diet is shocking due to how fussy I am

Some days I do but mostly I don't manage 5. I'm trying to improve that by planning my food shop better.

Some days but not every I would say. Today I had
Cucumber as part of a sandwich
Orange
Apple
Grapes
Strawberries
Sugar snaps
Pepper
Tomato

But That’s because we had lots of raw veg with dinner (the kids prefer raw to cooked). Tomorrow we will have pizza for tea so I’ll probably only have 3-4 fruits and some cucumber in a sandwich.

I either absolutely smash it and eat loads, or eat nothing but a sea of beige food all day 😂

I've been to eat a variation of bread and cheese for every meal of the day without even realising.

1 glass of pure fruit juice counts.
I also ‘hide’ lots of veg. Put courgette in anything with mince, grated if you don’t like it, can grate in carrot too and not really notice it, finely chopped bell peppers too.
Bit less commonly done, If I’m doing cottage pie and serving with veg, I’ll finely dice broccoli and/or cauliflower stalk the same size as the carrot and peas too, they can be grated as well into any mince. Bulks it out, uses less meat and makes it healthier.
I always add frozen green beans, snapped up if needed, to curry. Fresh cauliflower and bell pepper is good in there too.

Adding frozen or fresh fruit to your breakfast cereal or a yogurt is quite a good one for not really being too much effort, as is 1 glass of pure fruit juice.

Most days. I generally have muesli or weetabix for breakfast with frozen berries and either grapes or a banana added.

I'll usually have some sort of sandwich at lunch, meat of some description or another with salad.

Dinner is normally something like stir fry with veg/meat and veg/lasagne and salad/ curry etc. Had fish curry tonight with heirloom tomatoes in it. Had a couple of satsumas after.

I think most days I do. I've counted 11 today.

I add fruit to my porridge in the morning. Today I had banana and blueberries with cinnamon.

Lunch I usually have a salad. Today was ham & egg salad with cucumber, lettuce, and tomato.

Some melon and an apple for snacks.

I always have one or two vegetables with my dinner in the evening. Today was a creamy chicken, leek & carrot potato topped pie with long stem broccoli.

I would say I managed my 5 a day about 98% of the time. I try to have at least 2 portions of fruit for breakfast, 1 for lunch with 2-3 potions of vegetables and the rest with dinner with things like carrots, peppers, cucumber and celery throughout the day as snacks. I find it a lot easier to eat the recommended amounts if I prep them at the weekend. If I’m really struggling/unwell I will usually turn it into a juice or smoothie to get to the quota.

Hit and miss. I like making smoothies and will use frozen mixed berries, banana with vanilla zero large yoghurt and chia seeds. Then have some green veg with tea. Some days I just eat carbs 😬

Never manage it.

I always have a can of fruit cocktail for breakfast - surely that counts 👀

Today I had pita with taramasalata for lunch and roast lamb with mash and cabbage. It’s a no from me.

I tend to in the week when I’m at work as have a soup or salad for lunch and fruit for snacks. But the weekends it goes out the window! Don’t forget that baked beans and Heinz tinned spagetti count as 1 of the 5 a day 😄

Today I didn’t even have one 😬 but I probably usually have 3/4 portions of fruit and veg a day, could be better!

Hit and miss but I usually have at least some fruit and veg daily. Harder at weekends when I’m less likely to snack on fruit.
usually have porridge with some blueberries and a cup of hot water and lemon for my breakfast.
lunch is usually a sandwich (homemade with whole meal thins) which has lettuce, spring onion and peppers on it.
usually have a snack like an apple and probably a banana daily and always some veg with dinner.
Tonight I had a jacket potato with veggie chilli on it and in the chilli was carrot, pepper, chopped tomatoes, onions and kidney beans

No, rarely. I used to think I did because I'd be eating 5 types of fruit & veg but when I looked closer I rarely ate enough of each type for it count as one of the 5.

No but I don't really eat that much anyway haha. Today for breakfast I had some toast with poached eggs and then for dinner I had sweet potato curry which actually had quite a lot of veg in it as it also had spinach and onion. But no where near enough fruit and veg!

Before lockdown when I was more active I'd generally have lunch as well and I'd have a few portions of veg so I'd be eating my 5 then.

I try, and usually get 4/5... I wouldn’t say I’m a fussy eater, I’ll eat anything pretty much if I had to, but given the choice I wouldn’t eat fruit or salad so my 4 or 5 are almost always just veg, maybe an orange occasionally, but not much else. I prefer hot food to cold food, and warm salad just isn’t that great 😂

It depends really, I don’t really like to eat fruit, although I do like smoothies and fruit juices.

so for example some days I might have a glass of fruit juice a day, so that’s one.

then for our evening meal, I tend to add additional veg to our meals. So with bolognese I add chopped celery and carrot, I actually really like veg and I love having it like this.

we always try to have two veg with the evening meal, so I tend to have 3/5 a day.
