YESS!!! id keep him in for a few days and say hes had to have his stomach pumped and then ask her what shes been feeding him id then tell her i want half the money for the vet bills every time you have to take him to the vets because shes feeding him stuff he shouldnt be eating ... id also then say hes on a special diet aswell, tell her you have to feed him royal canin sterilized food as everything else gives him a bad belly (you can only get this in pets at home) so she cant say shes nipped to the shop and got the same food

I honestly think the sneaky old snark wouldn’t answer the door to us anymore. She said she isn’t feeding him but when he finally gets back home he doesn’t go to his food or water bowl so that’s a complete lie. I honestly don’t think I’d settle if we were to let him back out now plus he’s made an absolute liar out of me saying what a nightmare he’s been yesterday and seems to have settled down so I think we’re just going to keep him indoors.

This is not ok!
We’ve got friends whose next door neighbours have cats, and one of them has adopted our friends. They never feed her and never shut her in, but during the summer she will fight to get into their house! Our friends try not to let her but haven’t managed. The neighbours know, and are ok with it - they’ve a young child and think the cat just wants a bit of peace and quite 🤞

I’m glad he’s settling into indoor life. As an indoor cat mum, make sure he has a variety of interactive toys so he doesn’t get bored.. we’ve got a few different big toys that we rotate so she doesn’t get too bored

yes definitely put big toys away once you're done playing so that he doesn't get bored of them and you can rotate them! :)

Thank you both for the tip. We honestly wouldn’t of minded him going in her home or even the fact he stayed a few hours it’s the fact she locked him in & kept him overnight when we’d asked her not too.

yes absolutely!! i was just chatting to my bf about this today while we were taking a walk because it was stuck in my head 😅 and he agreed it would be normal for a cat to visit people around the neighbourhood but the fact she was locking him in is really worrying! plus the whole ''he was under the bed'' story is so problematic - if he wasn't then why is she lying, and if he was then obviously he hates it there if he's hiding?!

Exactly, it’s the blatant lying that’s the problem

Our kitten owner loves this, and we do too as you can change the layout so it’s loads of toys in one!

Exactly, before our neighbour passed in the summertime if we had our windows open Dobby would sometimes come in which we didn’t mind but we always made sure he was out before we closed it and we would never feed him. He possibly could of hid under the bed when the recycling lorry came as he isn’t a fan but there’s no way he’d stay under a bed for hours at a time.

Poor thing is getting Smokey fur, though 😢
True, before the whole cat napping started this was the only thing that put me off him going in her home, we’re both smokers ourselves but we are outdoor smokers I remember half jokingly saying to my husband do we get please don’t smoke around me put on his collar?

Wasn’t there a guy called Luke Magnotta who stole cats, and then became a serial killer?
It’s a slippery slope for sure, one day your nabbing cats, the next day your mailing body parts to your local newspaper...

You’ve just reminded me how great that series was!

We had a cat stolen by a stupid old woman. She kept telling us he was starving when we went round to get him back (this cat was a complete pampered puss). Then one week he didn't come back again and when we went round she had moved and taken him with her.

That’s terrible! The cheek to just take someone else’s cat and then move house 😱

That’s out of order and shocking how common it seems to be.
yeah i have been so shocked by this thread tbh! makes me thankful for my neighbours who all know my cat but don't feed her/try and lure her in!

Our cats are indoor cats and only allowed out if we are out. One stays within the yard her little legs won't allow her to jump fences. One has a harness and lead and roams the back.. only if i am out. And the 3rd he has a harness..a retractable dog lead that is pegged into the ground. He has a 2m or so radius to roam the garden in.. plenty of water, shade and shelter (dog kennel) they all come in by dark. And all have a routine of when they go outside.

Maybe with Dobby you could try something similar. Cats like routine. He is just used to being let out...
Plenty of toys, cat treats and a cat scratcher in doors.
We also use fleiway.. that can help with stress... he just needs to get used to a new routine.

The next step.. buy a catery for him to roam safely in outside?

He loves you. He wouldn't come running back to you otherwise..
