Which is what totally pisses people off. That bleeping nasty attitude to being questioned. Straight in with the anger and aggression, which is why the USA is in tit. Nasty bleeps don't accept any opinion other than theirs.

Racism isn't an opinion that deserves tolerance and respect, it is honestly crazy to me that you think racist opinions should be protected.

It's hilarious how quick you are to blame the aggression of the tweet as the reason people have a problem, all the whole going on a very explicit aggressive rant. (Personally I think people are angry because they don't like to see the light shown on their own behaviour but Alesha Dixon's tweet isn't the point of this thread.)

The whole performance was to show the racism BLACK people face globally, sorry but as a white person you can’t really say the U.K. is tolerant for all of us. I’m a straight woman and would not talk about the LGBT experience because it’s not my lane!

Also I’d be interested to know what part of the performance you found ‘intimidating’?

I watched Diversity's performance on YouTube. Towards the end of the routine, they imply that Covid-19 has brought communities together, which I found rather ironic considering that some of the actions of the BLM movement, have set equality for minorities back decades.

The influences of this movement, have been far and wide -

Destruction of statues (admittedly some of them should have never been erected in the first place - but they were part of Britain's past). The renaming of some pubs, removal of any ornament that might have racist connotations. The censorship of certain comedy characters and shows, because they contain “offensive content” ect.

You do realise that the majority of people wanting to remove statues, songs & all the other stuff are WHITE.
Black people have asked for equality & to end racism.
White people’s response: okay we hear you so we’ll rename this pub.

The majority of black people would much rather our mistakes be acknowledge e.g TV programmes that may/may not be offensive rather than just trying to delete things?
Personally - I think statues belong in a museum. But they are not my first action/thought/stance when fighting to end racism funnily enough.
they make no difference to my life so find it odd how many people suddenly seem to love statues.

also funny how the majority of these “All lives matter” people were the same ones commenting vile comments on the DM articles about the migrants. Their stance suddenly changed then...

just to edit - I’m white. And I also loved the diversity performance. I’m embarrassed that these people are complaining about it. Baffled.

I'm very very confused by the complaints and the racists in this thread. The dance was also about coronavirus and the state of the UK, but please die on a hill because they also decided to include BLM. Imagine, a dance crew, that has a lot of black members choosing to incorporate things into their dance that also affects them. The absolute audacity of them.
The group even has white people in it, who clearly unlike you lil racists in here, have sense.

I have worked with Diversity on a few of their tours and I would say the routine was all about keeping the group in the public eye she highlighting BLM is just a way of doing it. They didn’t sign with Simon Cowell when they won BGT and Ashley and his mother manage the group. They are talented but I think have had their day and don’t know when to stop. It’s all about money

As a mixed half white half Jamaican 32 year old, I’m actually so disappointed at the black community and how they are going about this issue. I feel they are just throwing it down everyone’s throats and as previously stated anyone who has a different view point is instantly racist! The community are almost proving the point of the true racist Bigots buy blanket stereotyping all white (or different view point) as racists and saying how bad the UK is. Dressing in black panther style military style scaring older folks?????? Really????? And In my personal experience it’s 9/10 white spoilt trust fund university students always protesting on behalf of the BLM movement .... Now feminism or me too is not flavour of the month!!!
my white mothers family who are not at all racist as we are a well mixed family with interracial relationships are upset and tired of being labeld racist and made to feel bad and guilty for the history of their ancestors....madness!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for BGT sorry but no place for political statements such as this! not a family show.... it was purely for shock value and ratings! George Floyd was nothing to with the UK firstly so let’s keep our noses out of American matters .....and secondly can you imagine a depiction of the say the James buldger murder ....on America’s got talent .....a totally unrelated freak event that didn’t take place in that country but the country in uproar over it??? Hope that analogy Makes sense..... All lives matter to me not just my black families but my white also .......and next saying that does not deminish the history of the black community or the genuine racism felt today but the more we divide the less chance of ever healing this wound and that is a sad fact!!!

I find your response really interesting & definitely appreciate other views regarding all this, especially one that doesn’t just talk about bloody statues!
I do agree that a cause (regardless to what) shouldn’t be forced upon people so the scenes in the US of protesters bullying people to support I do not agree with.
I also don’t condone/agree with any of the violence & looting etc but understand (more so in the US) why it happened. The violence in the Uk to me was completely not needed. But as with everything, a small minority just go to these things spoiling for fights. like you say, normally white rich kids
I disagree that the performance on BGT was political personally - I think it’s been a huge issue that touched many people during lockdown & being a predominately black dance group, I would have been shocked if they didn’t touch on this.
i also personally believe you can be behind & support the message of BLM but not support their political agenda? I don’t think equality & no racism is political? It’s human decency.
if the entire performance was just about covid would people still be saying it’s political? Because out of the topics, I think that is more political than racism?
also, if I had children I think this would be a good way to sort of broach the subject with them, Most kids are on SM these days & there are soooo many horrendous videos surrounding BLM (mainly American) that they could see/be exposed to, not the mention the news. So to me, a dance about it is a nicer thing for them to see? To learn? a talking point? But maybe that’s just me. I don’t have children.

This whole - it happened in America thing & it’s nothing to do with us I think is difficult. For me personally as a white person I’ve luckily not experienced racism, I don’t know of yours or your family’s experiences but I believe the reason why it expanded as such, is because I think a lot of people could resonate with the situation. I myself didn’t realise just how bad the police force in America is with regards to racism.
I’m in no way anti police, I used to work for the police force myself, was very proud & I am very pro police. I wasn’t an actual officer but saw first hand that they do have to deal with some horrendous things day in & day out & it’s a hard job. Sometimes think they’re dammed if they do & dammed If they don’t with respect to things like stop & search, knife crime etc.
I don’t support the whole “defund” the police stance BLM push. But im still all for equality & to end racism.
However, there is still racism within the UK police forces, thankfully not as bad as the US. So we can obviously learn some things.

I would hope all of this hasn’t set us back racism wise, or dividing us more because that clearly wasn’t the goal. It’s sad if that ends up happening.

yes I also agree All lives matter but the vast majority of the people using this term have no idea & don’t want to have an idea, use it to mask their racism & don’t truly understand that BLM are not saying “no one matters but black people” they’re trying to say black people matter TOO. The same people I have seen bashing BLM stating all lives matter have been offering to stand at the ports & shoot migrant boats coming into the UK & hoping they all drown. So how can “all lives matter” if they think that?
(I’m not saying you’re one of these people btw) I just really hate that phrase.

I myself am constantly learning & educating myself every day. I would never class myself as racist & have been brought up to never see colour. Racism as a concept is completely alien to me because I would never treat someone differently purely because of the colour of their skin.

i sadly think the UK is slowly losing its tolerance whether that’s due to covid or not I have no idea. Feel like people are going crazy! But I just don’t get why there is so much hate & divide. It’s really sad.

First of all, I find it quite disgusting that you assume BLM are blaming all white people for their ‘ancestors’ actions. I also think you may have missed the point, BLM does not stand for black lives only, it stands for equality. The core of the cause is EQUALITY first and foremost and you’re correct, a lot of people will take any cause and run with it how they please, often in a negative way, but i fail to see how we can allow those few people and instances to over shadow the true meaning of this movement.

Was it not that long ago that BRITISH JAMAICANS were told to GO BACK HOME by the British government who people these men, women and children that they would be given a better life for their work in this country??? Were they not torn away and treated like illegal immigrants in their own home??? If we turn a blind eye to what’s happening in America, we’re still standing right in front of what our country has done and continues to do to Black and minority groups.

Racism has been brewing for years in this country and Brexit etc etc has been a gateway for people to voice their disgusting racist views. Asians are treated like terrorists until proven innocent, black people are systematically at a disadvantage from the moment they’re born. Yes this country is open minded and yes we lead the way on most things, but that does not mean we cannot improve. That does not mean we cannot stand up for what we believe to be right and to fight for those who’s voices are only heard when there’s a tragedy.

As a Jamaican English mixed race woman, I have heard the story of how my father was treated coming to this country. How he was chased down streets, threatened every day as he tried to make a life for himself and his family. If he hadn’t of been married to my mum, he would have been sent back to Jamaica, a country he hadn’t even seen in over 30 years?! And that’s my FATHER I am 26 years old!!!! Not a story passed down by my ancestors!

So no. This isn’t a bandwagon that the U.K. has just jumped on.

I honestly find it insane that your first instinct because you don’t agree with Alesha’s comment was to refer to her as a witch multiple times.

It’s also sadly really ironic that the anti BLM voices in this thread have been the ones complaining that they don’t support it due to some sort of perceived threat or violence, even in regards to this performance, and yet even though totally unprovoked they refer to people they disagree with as bleeps and witches and make some really derogatory comments.

Frankly if anyone disagrees that racism is well and truly alive in the UK all they need to do is look at this thread. I regret opening this topic, I genuinely did not think it would descend so low but my eyes have been opened.

Does being anti-BLM automatically mean that you disagree that racism is well and truly alive in the U.K.?

I personally am very anti the BLM movement for some of the reasons the apparent ‘racists in this thread’ have pointed out e.g. violence, views on law enforcement etc. and whilst I wasn’t offended by the dance in any way shape or form I do find it quite shocking that people in the public eye are still supporting it.

Support anti racism yes, 100%. Supporting a movement that condones violence and is pushing for the removal of the police as the answer, nope.
