Talk about making a bad situation worse.
Good on her. The comment she was replying to was ridiculous

I am the child of an English mother, and foreign Father (both white) so I have a slight understanding, of feeling like the odd one out. I never considered myself to be racially prejudiced.
Fast forward to 2020, when were were in the midst of a pandemic, it was a grim situation, but it felt like the majority of us were "in this together." Then the George Floyd situation erupted, and the world went mad. The horrific nature of George Floyd's death is terrible, but I am bemused as to why it should effect us in the UK the way it has done.
As far as I am aware, Britain is a tolerant country that provides equal opportunities for people who want them. To try to erase our history, by destroying anything remotely "offensive" is wrong. To try to achieve equality, with intimidation is also wrong. You end up deviding communities rather than uniting them.
Britain does not have equal opportunities. Whilst there are countries "worse" then us, it has been clearly shown time and time again that black people are disadvantaged in the criminal justice system, in education, in health etc etc.

And no one is asking us to erase history, just to stop whitewashing it.

I'm very very confused by the complaints and the racists in this thread. The dance was also about coronavirus and the state of the UK, but please die on a hill because they also decided to include BLM. Imagine, a dance crew, that has a lot of black members choosing to incorporate things into their dance that also affects them. The absolute audacity of them.
The group even has white people in it, who clearly unlike you lil racists in here, have sense.

As a mixed half white half Jamaican 32 year old, I’m actually so disappointed at the black community and how they are going about this issue. I feel they are just throwing it down everyone’s throats and as previously stated anyone who has a different view point is instantly racist! The community are almost proving the point of the true racist Bigots buy blanket stereotyping all white (or different view point) as racists and saying how bad the UK is. Dressing in black panther style military style scaring older folks?????? Really????? And In my personal experience it’s 9/10 white spoilt trust fund university students always protesting on behalf of the BLM movement ....😴😴😴😴 Now feminism or me too is not flavour of the month!!!
my white mothers family who are not at all racist as we are a well mixed family with interracial relationships are upset and tired of being labeld racist and made to feel bad and guilty for the history of their ancestors....madness!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for BGT sorry but no place for political statements such as this! not a family show.... it was purely for shock value and ratings! George Floyd was nothing to with the UK firstly so let’s keep our noses out of American matters .....and secondly can you imagine a depiction of the say the James buldger murder ....on America’s got talent .....a totally unrelated freak event that didn’t take place in that country but the country in uproar over it??? Hope that analogy Makes sense..... All lives matter to me not just my black families but my white also .......and next saying that does not deminish the history of the black community or the genuine racism felt today but the more we divide the less chance of ever healing this wound and that is a sad fact!!!
check out candance Owens she is a queen!!!!!

I actually like her response! Playing the respectability politics game has gotten us nowhere. We don’t have to explain our humanity to others, you either get it or you don’t.

The fact that most still can’t acknoweldge the U.K. has a racism problem that is getting WORSE in 2020 is why things won’t improve.

The whole performance was to show the racism BLACK people face globally, sorry but as a white person you can’t really say the U.K. is tolerant for all of us. I’m a straight woman and would not talk about the LGBT experience because it’s not my lane!

Also I’d be interested to know what part of the performance you found ‘intimidating’?

Many people don't see themselves as racially prejudiced, that doesn't mean they aren't though. I'm not saying you are racist, I'm just saying most people who are bigoted usually don't actively admit to being racist.

How do you think Britain's history being erased by calling out racism and in particular systematic racism?

Which is what totally pisses people off. That fucking nasty attitude to being questioned. Straight in with the anger and aggression, which is why the USA is in shit. Nasty cunts don't accept any opinion other than theirs.
Britain is too tolerant and accepting of this kind of aggressive shit.
Wow, what?! Because someone doesn't accept RACISM?

Racism isn't an opinion that deserves tolerance and respect, it is honestly crazy to me that you think racist opinions should be protected.

It's hilarious how quick you are to blame the aggression of the tweet as the reason people have a problem, all the whole going on a very explicit aggressive rant. (Personally I think people are angry because they don't like to see the light shown on their own behaviour but Alesha Dixon's tweet isn't the point of this thread.)

Many people feel and think many many things that are not fair or right! Including BAME people. Does not mean they act on them in any way. The world is full of many different people black white ginger fat thin all can face prejudice. And if our country is really really so bad then why on earth do so many wish to come here and even risk their lives? It is because we are so welcoming and diverse! Also wether right or wrong there are still more white people in the Uk than BAME, thus it stands that obviously there will be more successful white people as it’s literally just a factual numbers issue ? Call out racism that’s great but to tear up the history books is doing no one any favours! Slavery was/ is, a worldwide problem not just one that black people have suffered. Many many awful things have happened in history All over the world by every nation, from human sacrifice to Royal beheadings etc child labour etc women being unable to vote the list is endless . We have and are evolving as humans history serves to make sure the same mistakes are not made for future generations?

Also I am so sick of anyone who may have a differing view point being instantly labelled as a racist. And now apparently being racist and not even realising you are for gods sake! You can not force absolutely everyone to think the same way obviously racism is unacceptable, but to try to force absolutely everyone to agree that pretty much all non BAME are racist wether they know it or not is only going to back fire. And to force people to agree to wipe our history or else you are also racist is having the same effect. As a side note like I said many many BAME people are indeed very very capable of being very racist too. But apparently that’s not a thing??

You do realise that the majority of people wanting to remove statues, songs & all the other stuff are WHITE.
Black people have asked for equality & to end racism.
White people’s response: okay we hear you so we’ll rename this pub.

The majority of black people would much rather our mistakes be acknowledge e.g TV programmes that may/may not be offensive rather than just trying to delete things?
Personally - I think statues belong in a museum. But they are not my first action/thought/stance when fighting to end racism funnily enough.
they make no difference to my life so find it odd how many people suddenly seem to love statues.

also funny how the majority of these “All lives matter” people were the same ones commenting vile comments on the DM articles about the migrants. Their stance suddenly changed then...

just to edit - I’m white. And I also loved the diversity performance. I’m embarrassed that these people are complaining about it. Baffled.

I think you need to relax, you're making some pretty massive leaps there, I didn't anything most of what you're suggesting in your post. When did I suggest anyone who has a different opinion in general is automatically racist? Do you really think it is not possible to not realise/ acknowledge you are racist though?

We are talking about racism, not immigrants so I'm not sure why you keep throwing around "why are all these people coming here?" plenty of non-white people are British and born in the UK.

I still don't understand why it seems to be such a prevalent opinion that anyone is being forced to wipe British history, in what ways do you think that is happening?

I just read something in relation to this that really summed things up I felt -

*BLM protests happen*
The public: we’d have respected you if you tried to get your message across PEACEFULLY.

*Dance group features BLM in a DANCE ROUTINE on the telly*
The public: over 15,000 people complain to offcom!!

don’t know why anyone would be against ending racism. Absolutely baffling.

I watched Diversity's performance on YouTube. Towards the end of the routine, they imply that Covid-19 has brought communities together, which I found rather ironic considering that some of the actions of the BLM movement, have set equality for minorities back decades.

The influences of this movement, have been far and wide -

Destruction of statues (admittedly some of them should have never been erected in the first place - but they were part of Britain's past). The renaming of some pubs, removal of any ornament that might have racist connotations. The censorship of certain comedy characters and shows, because they contain “offensive content” ect.

I'm wondering what all of this censorship and “re-imagining” of our history, has accomplished so far? All I can see, is a build up of resentment, especially when it seeps into every aspect of our culture – like innocuous television shows and sporting events.
Jesus I need to get out of this thread.

Once more noone is censoring history or reimagining it. Just telling the whole story which actually isn't a very nice one.

Thank you for this link. I don't watch BGT but I had heard about this. After watching it just now I actually feel like I have to take a minute. Phew, that was unexpectedly quite emotional. People who complain about TV shows have way too much time on their hands and are part of the problem themselves. Just forget about it and change the channel. My ears are offended by Adele and Ed Sheeran by radio stations on a daily basis 😂

Bitch knows she's safe because ITV will not apologise. Too scared of looking non-woke.
They knew the dance was on the cards and could have stepped in prior to the show and requested diversity do something less divisive, but they didn't, so Alesha motor mouth knows her job is safe. For now.

Her platform? 😆 She's an ex group member from whenever, not Prime Minister.

“When the artist who Alesha had backed got through she basically turned to David and said, ‘Well that’s payback for all your inappropriate Little Britain antics’. David was stunned. Obviously he is not racist or homophobic, or anything-phobic in the slightest — he was upset. "

Bitchy and deeply wrong and again divisive, of her to snipe at Walliams over his past career and typically cowardly of her to pretend it was "a joke" when it came out what she'd said to him.
I honestly find it insane that your first instinct because you don’t agree with Alesha’s comment was to refer to her as a bitch multiple times.

It’s also sadly really ironic that the anti BLM voices in this thread have been the ones complaining that they don’t support it due to some sort of perceived threat or violence, even in regards to this performance, and yet even though totally unprovoked they refer to people they disagree with as cunts and bitches and make some really derogatory comments.

Frankly if anyone disagrees that racism is well and truly alive in the UK all they need to do is look at this thread. I regret opening this topic, I genuinely did not think it would descend so low but my eyes have been opened.

Unpopular opinion here. But I'm actually sick of hearing about black lives matter. And this and the footballers taking the knee still.
Like I get it people are still racist. But you are always going to get racist people. I've heard black people be racist against white people. And people are racist against Asians. It's always going to happen unfortunately. You can't wipe history and people were alot more racist in the past.
And as for people complaining. For god sake get a life. Ive watched plenty of TV and made moaning comments to family members and friends. I have never and will never write to ofcom or any other TV body and complain about the TV programme. These people have way too much time on their hands!
