It's a little touch of power to those who do it. They're probably the types to go full Karen over an expired coupon. Reading the DS thread linked here, a couple seem a tad peeved over the discussion over here, that Tanya character is trying to be nonchalant about it. She really is a piece of work!
Obviously the only bit of power they do have - some seem to really revel in it and do it for a pastime.

It's quite telling that some of the nastiest posters are the ones with the highest alert count.

You’d have to change your email address, internet provider and mobile number. Is it worth the hassle?

Try it and see! Someone was banned for using the word in a general sense. She’s been called worse
Why would you have to change your internet provider and phone number? Could you not use a new email address,, register on a friends computer and then when accepted back you could then log in on your phone?

I did notice when you first go on digital spy you have to agree to accepting cookies from the Hearst group. Maybe that's where they see you were a former member.

I shouldn't be having to resort to this, ive always been respectful on there though I did get passionate about some topics.

Banning should be for extreme cases or for serious bullying and not for a different viewpoint or for getting things wrong in videos that you link to. Its frustrating :sneaky:

They seem to have ways of finding out these things!

Hi there, another DS’er whose venturing in this direction because it really is going downhill in such a short space of time.
I’m still active on DS (with another animal themed user name) but who knows for how much longer?!?! Hope to have a nice conversation with you all here in what could be my new home! 😊

So, if you got a second cheap SIM that's the way to circumvent it? I wondered how they'd tell for people using mobiles!
Surely in my case if I logged in to ds on a new sim, say topped up with £10 and on a new email address, that as soon as I went back to my regular sim on my phone (which is my only source of internet at home) then they'll recognise the phone/sim from before and re ban me?

Maybe someone on here is more tech minded and knows for sure.

Tanya still being allowed to run riot on the forums with absolutely nobody in authority willing to say enough is enough.

What on earth is going on? I've never seen anything like it, on or offline.

Yeah, sorry - I have no idea! It would be interesting to know how these forums keep a track - I mean, for example what if you lived in shared accommodation at uni etc, would one person on a ban mean that everyone else was as well? If someone techy could explain how it works in layman's terms I'd be interested to know!

She is the main reason I’ve drifted over here tbh.

My encounters with her have been memorable to say the least (her first notable meltdown mentioned earlier in this thread is I think partly my doing) and the amount of awful things she’s spouted with no such consequences has made me question DS as a whole.

Of course there are (many) other users who have made it go that way but my god she is a rotten person through and through...

Aargh, by jove I've got it - that means I lied about reporting 2 posts, it was actually 10 in 14 years so worse than I thought but not bad considering. I've never understood the reporting thing unless it was for something really bad like the post that was made about Lucy earlier but was quickly changed. Surely it's easier just to ignore the post or poster rather than getting a blistered finger from pressing the report button so often - in life there will be things you don't like, get over it and move on. It's kind of sad if you feel the need to keep doing it - maybe a discussion forum isn't the place for people like that, an appreciation site would be better.
Someone has just said on DS that if you message Support, that also counts as a discussion so I have done that a few times querying warnings or bans so my earlier estimate of my reporting was more accurate.

I’ve been banned from DS for a while but I don’t think that’s correct tbh, unless they’ve changed things since. IIRC contacting support is more like a PM. Vanillaforums, which DS runs on since its makeover confirms how alerts work though, especially the underlined part:

Any member with the "Flag" permission may use this function.

Once the report has been submitted, the reporting user receives a pop up confirmation at the bottom left:

Viewing reports
Reporting content creates a new discussion in a special moderator-only category called "Reported posts". You can access this by going to the categories menu, or by choosing this option directly from the mebox

Thanks for explaining that - as I said, I only reported a post on a handful of occasions and this has proved it but it's a bit embarrassing for some now they know everyone can see how often they've been reporting other posters. It's a pity this didn't come to light before a load of us got banned because of these report-happy people.

Morning all. I'm on DS and after you got mentioned over there I had to come over and take a look and this thread is hilarious. 😄 Personally I don't find DS that bad but I have come across plenty of the posters mentioned but I never interact with them. I tend to say my piece in a thread and that's it and I never get drawn into any arguments if it annoys someone. I find arguing with a stranger on the internet such a waste of time.

I can only tell you how we found out when I administrated a now defunct forum. At the top right of each post (near to where the thread post number is listed) is your IP address (this lie that influencers spread explained here) . You can't see it as a regular poster, it only shows up for the forum admin.
So we had admin tools which allowed us to click on the IP address and quickly search on which users had used the same IP address - and if you clicked on the username, you could also see all of the IP addresses used by the same poster. Some posters would try and get around the system by using VPN and the like but more often than not, they'd forget and you'd use the IP address which came up most often.
So if you found that two posters used the same IP address and had the same posting style then you'd pretty much know it was the same person. It's not scientific and it wouldn't hold up in a court of law or anything but it does the job and makes life a bit easier for the admin.

Maybe they'll hold an amnesty again of former members and let them rejoin!

Youd think after a year that a person should be able to rejoin d.s and be given a chance. It would have to be something very serious to be banned indefinitely, well you'd think so anyway

Maybe the mods could be a bit more discerning and have a quick scan through a posters previous threads and posts to see if they can be reinstated based on their posting history/longevity. Thing is, there is no appeal process.

The thing is, it is a discussion forum, so people will disagree with you, and that prompts more discussion, which isn’t an argument. That’s the point of DS- discussion. Trouble is , some posters can turn nasty and vindictive, especially on the Politics forums, where some are real “ pieces of work” and gang up and bully other posters- for some reason they don’t get banned. You don’t have to post anything particularly bad to get banned though, due to some with their finger stuck on the flag button! We all know the culprits who, together, are part of a vile broth of nastiness which is tolerated by mods.

I see the “should we scrap the thumbs up button ?” on DS has been closed. No surprises there!

Tanya1982 reminds me of the 'good old days' on the Showbiz forum. I've been on there since 2004 (miraculously managing a perm-ban thus far). There used to be a FM whose original incarnation was 'Fancy'. She then had a trillion other aliases - WooWookid, Little Chicken, millions of others, I literally cannot be arsed to remember them all. The pattern was always the same - she would post on a new thread like she was a long-term poster, never had the intelligence to change her posting style, her little posse would all kiss ass, it would all kick off, (it was usually her dying on the sword of her hero Peter Andre), she would be banned, 2 days later, new login etc. We managed to find out her real name and she was a large, semi-literate chav of about 65. Honestly, you could not make some of the stuff up that's gone on over there.
