Interesting reading this as my son has lost his front tooth but as he's a male, they have to wait for his jaw to stop growing before he can have an implant so they think it might not be until he's 25. He has a false tooth which he hates 
As for me, I have gum disease and have lost a lot of bone and already had two teeth out (luckily at the back) and have another two that need to come out and my Dentist is always trying to get me to have implants but as they're at the back, I don't feel I need them and it's not just one it will be about 3, so very expensive. I also spoke to a friend who had implants and she said it's a very lengthy process (although it may have speeded up now as hers was a while ago?).
Both my parents had dentures so I mentioned dentures to my Dentist and he said 'well yes, you could go down that route' but he now specialises in implants and only works 2 days a week at our Dentist so I felt like I too would like a second opinion on implants as I didn't know if he was just pushing it as he probably makes more money from it?
