Interesting reading this as my son has lost his front tooth but as he's a male, they have to wait for his jaw to stop growing before he can have an implant so they think it might not be until he's 25. He has a false tooth which he hates ☹

As for me, I have gum disease and have lost a lot of bone and already had two teeth out (luckily at the back) and have another two that need to come out and my Dentist is always trying to get me to have implants but as they're at the back, I don't feel I need them and it's not just one it will be about 3, so very expensive. I also spoke to a friend who had implants and she said it's a very lengthy process (although it may have speeded up now as hers was a while ago?).

Both my parents had dentures so I mentioned dentures to my Dentist and he said 'well yes, you could go down that route' but he now specialises in implants and only works 2 days a week at our Dentist so I felt like I too would like a second opinion on implants as I didn't know if he was just pushing it as he probably makes more money from it?

Good luck with your treatment and glad you found a better Dentist.

im Sorry to hear you and your son both in the same kind of situation. It’s not cheap for implants so it gives your son a chance to save, so try and look at the positives. Wish I’d saved but I just never really thought about the day I would need an implant rather than my crown.

I know all too well though it’s not nice, it can make you quite insecure. When I thought of running around with no tooth if my crown fell out it genuinely had me in tears. As your teeth are at the back, unless they really bother you, I wouldn’t worry too much about them if you can’t see them.

yes I really thought my dentist was pushing it on me, and I’ve went to a different surgery rather than the one he was pushing me to use and long term il be getting more work carried out but it’ll work out cheaper than what my dentist was pushing.

my advice would be definitely get a second even third opinion, lots of places offer free consultations. mine was free and I left there feeling much more positive and happy. Will keep you all updated with the process x

You’re not alone Tinkerbell and I understand your anxiety. My teeth have always been ‘soft’ and I just need to look at a Mars Bar to get toothache. Where I am it’s about £3k for an implant and I’m not sure how long it’ll be before I need one.

It is a lot of money but it would be a weight off your mind - you wouldn’t have to worry about it coming out which might in turn help your confidence.

I’m interested to hear the replies too
I totally forgot I had commented on this thread until I saw a notification! Well I’ve had implants done, I got three and a bridge and it’s made a huge difference. I went to a really reputable place for implants in my area and it cost a pretty penny but it was worth it.

It was painful getting the implants in and my face was swollen for a couple of days and the denture was annoying (it was in for about 5 months) but it’s the best thing I did.

How are you getting on @Tinkerbell cat?

God this seems like a long time ago now!

So glad you are all good @LennyBriscoe

I went to a private clinic local to me and they have been fantastic. I had a few options of a bridge or implants and for now I've went for the bridge because of the work that I needed done it was the cheapest option and the less work with the option there down the line if I want the implants. When I say cheap, it definitely isn't cheap lol. I'm using a payment plan but its been 100% worth it and my only regret is not doing it sooner. I still actually have the temporary bridge on but its amazing, due to get the final one fitted in a few weeks time. I find getting an appt with them so straight forward, nothing is too much for them and they always put me at ease. Only had one issue with some sensitivity but they were able to see me straight away and the pain was away. I have confidence now when I smile and I just feel a lot better in myself. I've noticed that I've had next to no issues at all with any of my teeth now but before when going to the other dentist I was always having problems.

I'd definitely recommend it to anyone with similar issues. Its a complete life changer x

Ah that’s amazing, I’m so pleased to read these! My own dentist always said it’s an investment and she’s right. So glad you’re happy with the work ❤

Can I ask how do you clean your dental implants? Do you floss? Regular hygienist appointments? I have one dental implant at the front of my mouth and find it really hard to floss round it.

Not got implants but my dentist suggested a water dental flosser and I find it really good. I got mine from boots for £30 :)

There isn’t gaps in between any of the replaced teeth for me but there is above them so I was recommended this stuff:

The harder end goes in between the implant and the gum and you work it along the top. My own dentist said to occasionally use mouthwash too. Mine have only been finished a few weeks and I’ve got a follow up appointment with that dentist in July and I’ll ask him if there’s anything else I should be doing then too - my teeth have been problematic so knowing my luck, my gum will eat itself or something 😂
