Hello,

I’m hoping I can get some advice. I have FB but that’s only used for keeping up to date with local news and companies that advertise through FB. I don’t have my profile visible to anyone.

I’m trying to limit my screen time as I could scroll through Instagram for hours just looking at different things. I have deactivated my profile in the past before Christmas but then re activated it again. Now I’m wanting to kick it all together with IG and not be tempted with going back into it. Just hoping for some advice from those that have successfully deleted it and not gone back.

I’ve found it really dips my mood mentally bring on it.

Thank you so much for any advice and guidance. ☺

I used to love Facebook back in the old days but it's changed so much. I stopped using it a few years ago, deleted the app from my phone and deactivated my account. An odd time I would have reactivated it if there was something I wanted to check but then deactivated it again right away. I've had to activate it again, because I have a small business that I'm trying to grow on Instagram, and apparently they need to be linked, which bothers me. I don't really want to have my account active, or to have a Facebook page for my business- but maybe I should?

IG Reels are such a time sponge, it's unbelievable. I can feel it happening everytime, where I'll say to myself 'just a couple' then literally an hour or more later I'm still scrolling. It's terrible. And the horrible comparison happens, I remember lying in bed, dreading work in the morning, looking at photos of someone I didn't even know enjoying a holiday that I can only dream about, and feeling genuinely sad that it wasn't my life.

How do I deactivate my Tattle account? Ive looked everywhere and cannot find it?
Just be sure you want to as I think Tattle is closed for new members, so if you wanted to come back later, you may not be able to!

Not sure how practical this would be for you, but I found one of the easiest ways to take a break from instagram was to delete the app from my phone at the start of a holiday/ even if just a staycation. If you tell yourself you are simply doing an experiment/ having a breather it’s easier to resist the initial temptation. Keep yourself busy with other activities for a day or two and suddenly you realise days are gone without you thinking about scrolling. It took a few of these 1-3 week breaks from the app for me to finally deactivate my account.
Thank you - I do actually have a short holiday coming up so could feasibly delete it before I go away and try and break the habit that way. I've a lot of good books I want to read so perhaps I'll just divert my attention when I feel the need to scroll.

Not sure if this helps but you can download your entire profile - posts, messages, photos - when you fully delete your profile. I deleted by FB years ago and still have all the pics. Same on IG. It just goes into a folder on your hard drive. ❤

I have!

I did Facebook a while ago although if I’m honest I barely used it anyway. I was sick of seeing engagements and babies as I was going through a horrible breakup.

Then I kind of replaced instagram with TikTok (unintentionally) for a year or so. Now IG just seems clunky and boring

To get rid of TT I used an app called Freedom which blocks it. Didn’t take long to stop wanting to go on it.

Now the idea of being back on IG or TT fills me with horror. I wasted so much of my time on them. They now seem quite lame to me which is a gift, actually!

I do have Facebook again now but only for local info and cat pictures and so far it’s working well, I’m on it once a day for a few minutes.

Getting off them all has drastically improved my life ❤
This is the aim! I love that you’ve been able to free yourself, I would love to do this!

I was still occasionally looking on mumsnet, until the ads and the push to get premium. So I've stopped. It hasn't made me any happier, though.

Haven't gone as far as deleting but have definitely limited my use a lot, made easier by the platforms getting worse over time, and just wanting more privacy as time has gone on.

Twitter - still great for news, commentary, and interesting follows but overrun with bots, trolls and engagement farmers now. I follow a select number of people and have a quick look now and then but barely use it and never post anything myself.

Instagam - still the best for my circles of friends but I regularly cull who I'm following and remove a lot of people as followers too as I think why do they need to see my life! I'm quite good at ignoring the explore page and not scrolling reels so I only have a quick look at close friends and family's posts really.

That said I'm still guilty of mindlessly picking up my phone a lot, and when I'm in a scroll hole I do feel more negative/comparing myself etc.

Hello. I want to delete my instagram, or at the very least delete the app from my phone. I've done it a few times but only ever lasted a day or two. How can I prevent myself from reinstalling? Has anyone got any willpower tips - or maybe any other strategies?! I'd be all ears. I sometimes waste HOURS scrolling on insta and it's just such a horrendous waste of time and I don't want to do it any more. But I'm finding it very difficult to stop

I haven't deactivated , but I've recently unfollwed a lot of people. I'm not interested in them , bar the odd few. . I need to go through my groups and leave some.

I want to keep it for my pics and community type pages. I don't use it to interact with actual people.

I did a social media free January - well, Instagram really as I don't have any others but Facebook, and I never go on there. I went back on Instagram in February, but I'm really questioning why? I'm not interested in most stories. I hate all the ads. I pick up the phone and mindlessly scroll when I'm bored, but to what end? I'll probably go off it again from today. I have a bit of FOMO, as in, what if the show / artists I like post something about an event and I miss out, but I'm sure I'll find out another way.

ETA: I didn't deactivate or delete, I just turned off all notifications and didn't open the app.

I recently deactivated my Facebook as its literally just full of adverts & news posts which I find extremely boring, I have to skip through about 10 adverts or news stories before I even see a post from a friend. I will admit, I love Instagram so I wouldn't be able to deactivate it, but I do find myself mindlessly scrolling sometimes which makes me feel abit meh & like I could have done something better with my time so I'm going to try and limit my daily use. I don't use twitter & I find tiktok extremely negative & beggy so don't go on there as much these days. It's good to hear other opinions on here & how people feel about it.

Took the advice from here and have set my Instagram to an hour and it was such a good idea! It definitely makes me more discerning about what I'm watching and as there's a time limit , I don't want to waste my hour watching people ramble on about boring bs on stories!
So in the long run this did not work 🤣 I began ignoring it and was back to where I started!
What HAS worked for me this past month is cutting out short form video scrolling. I saw something on This morning that said multiple videos under 1 min are detrimental to your brain and for some reason this really stuck with me. For every cute cat video I'd be getting multiple distressing videos. I now have a rule where I can watch any video on Instagram, but I can't scroll- I have to go out of it and back into another video. I've been doing this for almost a month now and this definitely stops the cycle. My Instagram use is down about an hour a day 🙌
I'm finding it easier and more satisfying watching longer form content on YouTube again!

If you delete your tattle account can you still read threads? I know you can’t comment or ‘watch’ without an account
