David Walliams

I've not read any of his books but I've just read this thread from the beginning and seen all the comments about them and given that the first was published in 2008 and how popular they were, particularly with boys, do you think they could be partly responsible for the some of the gross behaviours of many teens/young people today? Obviously I don't know the exact content of them but it seems there was questionable/rude/disrespectful behaviour as a recurring theme and if DW books were thr only books the kids engaged with, I assume nothing else really balanced it out.

It sounds ridiculous now I've written it but it was just a thought I had.... in a similar way to video games being blamed I suppose.
No I'll give him a pass on that, the behaviour of todays boys is driven purely by their ease of access to hard porn.

Mark Ronson was still in his first few big years when DW did that, so perhaps he didn’t want to muddy waters. He’s certainly in the position to speak now though.
The irony is, if it weren’t DW, DW himself would want to shut down the masses of chat everyone’s having right now. You know, big twitter post kind of tit.

the fucker hasn’t said a thing, obviously.
Mark Ronson is a victim and not obligated to do anything.

He already spoke out about it many years ago, diffusing the situation (as did Walliams, who apologised and said he would stop that stunt). This was necessary at the time for PR reasons; if he'd been openly upset, he would have been treated as someone whiny and pitiful who can't take a joke.

If Ronson now spoke out, it would contradict his earlier statements, and he would get raked over hot coals if it went to court.

This is what he answered in an interview:

Has there been a more awkward moment in your life than when David Walliams ripped your pants off on stage last year?
No, definitely not! I’m such a fan of Little Britain [Walliams’ comedy show] that it was so ignorant of me to think that nothing bad was going to happen if I was on stage with that man. I’ve seen them a lot since and we get on absolutely fine – it was just a bad night.

--------------------

So he's already self victim-blamed and downplayed it, which is a sad a reflection of noughties attitudes and what he had to do.

To be honest, this was the right thing for his career, to avoid being known as a victim instead of a talented music producer.

I do think he could say ‘I did feel obligated at that stage in my career not to stir it up but at the time it happened I was very upset and on reflection I was too quick to dismiss my feelings out of embarrassment and the fear of risk to my career’ or something g like that. However, similarly, he’s absolutely not obligated to speak up now and he may well want to leave an unpleasant situation in the past. He might know that awful as it was it’s likely the tip of the iceberg DW crimes wise and DW will pay eventually in some form or other, hopefully custodial.

I find this absolutely fair, you’re right.

Well, it's wrong that Mark Ronson (or anyone) should be in such a conflicted position in the first place, whether he says more now, or not.

I mean it’s no secret now, I dunno why DW is even bothering with his blackmailing.
big difference between some people on the internet (and press) knowing it and your name being printed everywhere attached to the allegation. The former will fade away and stay hidden from 99 % of the public, the latter will stay forever.

I do think you have a good point here. I remember when the stuff about Schofield came out and it was a big shock to a lot of people but it had been discussed on here for months prior. Also the allegations about DJason are being widely discussed adjacent to this case whereas it was just on places like here I had previously seen it. Example is my mother (so presumably loads like her) who was shocked though I read about it years ago.

David Jason was part of some hand gliding/paragliding club where some other club members were caught with a 10 year old boy at David Jason's house, which they had a key for. David Jason wasn't present and in the court case it was strongly reiterated it was nothing to do with him, but it is still eyebrow raising he was giving onces keys to his house.

The thing is, he’s not having mental health problems. This isn’t a man struggling with depression who sees suicide as the only way to escape the pain. He’s freaking the duck out because his world is crumbling down around him as he is on the brink of being exposed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s actively suicidal, he can’t fathom living in a world where he’s held accountable.
A friend nannied for him and Laura and said he was a manic depressive. No excuse, but I do think depression has been a long term issue for him. Maybe he can prove that and is using it in this legal case.

I feel kind of bad but I’ve metaphorically got my popcorn out for this one. Partly because I always thought he was a wrong ‘un and the narcissist in me wants to be proved right. But mainly because, if the allegations are true, he’s a disgusting person who shouldn’t be allowed to get away with what he’s done in plain sight and what he’s alleged to have done out of the public eye. All because he feels like his suffering is more important than the people on the receiving end of his bad behaviour. I might be a terrible person in a lot of ways but it’s human nature to be curious and part of social conscience to expose those who are harmful to others so I might give myself a free pass on this.
