I feel like all of this could have been avoided if he didn't spend his whole career hiding behind this Nice Guy image. Touring musicians are cheaters, by and large. Doesn't make it okay or anything, but it kind of comes with the territory of being on the road and having tons of willing potential partners for the evening.
But Dave just had to play the wholesome family man, the ultimate Nice Guy who was just so gosh darn humble. So all of this is a much bigger deal than it would have been otherwise, comes as more a betrayal for fans of his.
So, what's next? Does he find religion? Head off to some spiritual retreat and come back all high off those farts?

I’ve been to many Foo Fighters shows, and the amount of times I’ve heard him talking about his kids, bringing them out on stage to perform with him etc.
As you say, totally playing on the doting family man persona.
I certainly fell for it. Thought he was the perfect man. Gone right off him

Hell, I'm not a fan and I fell for it! I never followed him or the band, but all the things I heard about Grohl were so positive. I was very impressed by him finishing that concert with a broken leg.I certainly fell for it. Thought he was the perfect man. Gone right off him
A similar issue happened with the Flaming Lips, from what I heard the lead singer left his wife of several decades (she toured with them often as their photographer iirc) for a waitress in her early 20s. Then he's clearly getting high with Miley Cyrus and creeping all over her, that sort of nasty stuff and the fan base largely turned their backs on him.
And they were a loyal lot, like the Foo fans. The Lips were very gracious and generous with their fans and I think a lot of them saw all this as a betrayal.
