Can't bear imagining the same happening to Shane Hawkins, if thats who will be replacing Josh. I remember reading the articles when Taylor died and believe he was being overworked.
If I was his Mum I wouldn’t want my son to join the band - they are vastly older, Dave is obviously going through some issues at the moment plus like you said it could be that Dave’s drive to tour and do albums etc put pressure on Taylor to be overworked and take drugs to cope. And a big issue is that Shane will always be compared to his Dad and as a young man that could be difficult.

I vaguely remember this article, is it still online?

I think this is the article - not sure if it’s been changed as haven’t read through it all.
Even Foo Fighters fans were saying that it probably has some truth in it and playing the shows took a lot out of Taylor given his age and heart condition. Drumming isn’t like playing a guitar or singing, it’s so intensive and puts so much strain on the body. Look at Bob Bryar from My Chemical Romance. Even before he left the band his wrists were damaged and the tendons snapped and he had to have surgery. Then a few years later after he left he said he had retired from all drumming due to arthritis and was in a lot of pain. Then sadly he died and got eaten by his dogs. A more positive drumming story is Tory Castellano from The Donna’s. She retired a few years before the broke up and went to law school and now she’s an attorney working at the Texas Office of Capital and Forensic Writs (OCFW) which serves as a post-conviction public defender.

Id say the drugs killed Taylor not the touring.

He's an adult with free will. He has small kids at home, if touring is going to drive you to take drugs then don't tour.

You can't put that on Dave. There's a ton of drummers , not least Dave himself that could've stepped in of Taylor dropped out

I'm sorry but I don't buy putting Taylor's death on Dave.

If he didn't want to tour anymore he could have quit, plenty of other people have quit bands for similar reasons. He was an adult.

If he took drugs that was his choice, too.

Doesn't make his death any less tragic, but trying to weaponise it feels cheap and disrespectful

Edit: Just seen @SIXTYNINEDUDES! post above. Said it better than me.

I know a few drummers with bad tinnitus from playing too often without headphones on. I read that the drummer from Inspiral Carpets committed suicide because of that. It’s pretty common and no cure.

I have tinnitus and when it’s really bad there is no escaping it. It’s horrible.

I have it too but I’m a moron and when I was asked about hearing a ringing in my ears I was like doesn’t everyone. The man in ENT was like erm no…this is despite being a health professional 🤣🙈 Joys of the ADHD.

I think it’s quite brutal and unnecessary to put Taylor’s death on Dave.

That’s a right statement isn’t it - 1 year on back at v high profile event again. He looks v slender (unsurprisingly).

It would have been epic if she’d responded to that post he made at the time about earning forgiveness with “that’s what you think”

So apparently the woman Dave had an affair with is a porn star and he commited to regular therapy sessions afterwards, I take it this is his attempt to relaunch his image.

Do you really need regular therapy to discover you shouldn’t stick your fool in other women when you’re married?

He’s only having therapy as a reaction to everyone finding out, not because he wants to change.

Is she really a pornstar or is that just a way to put the onus on her for being too sexually audacious and him not being able to resist? Seems like a convenient way to shift the blame.
