Ok, I hold my hand up, I haven't been paying attention! Prisoners go missing quite regularly, but the authorities seem extremely keen to find him - why exactly, what has he done 🤔?

Eta, I just had a google; ex soldier, bomb hoax, accused of eliciting or attempting to elicit information “about an individual who was or had been a member of His Majesty’s forces which was of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism”, and suspected of spying for Iran.
And only 21yo, he's been busy 😳

posted this in the crime thread but:

if he’s gone to ground, presumably being helped by the people who assisted in his escape (as the police are saying it was prearranged) and/or the people he was working for in the first place, then i don’t think they’re gonna find him unless he slips up or someone gives him up.

he looks like literally any other london boy. even after seeing his photo so much this week i don’t know if i would register if he walked past me in the street.

I've read some people state he has Iranian heritage. Has this been confirmed anywhere as fact? Or is it purely because he's suspected of spying for Iran?

It is literally looking for a needle in a haystack. He could be anywhere he would completely blend in. If I saw him I probably wouldn't double take if he was in normal clothes. It's been planned, I don't think a lot of people escape from prison without a plan or help. In edinburgh someone here managed to slip the custody officer taking him to court. He was gone I think 48 hours hiding in someone's house.

it’s not regular for inmates to escape from prison.Only 3 in last 5 years I think!

Thanks for making this thread- I am so invested in this news story!

It all seems a bit suss to me. He's hardly ex SAS and what would be the point of planting fake bombs? Who is he? Why are they going so mad and then saying he's not threat to the public.
It was a very elaborate escape for someone so junior in the army. Do they really all get that level of training? The way he escaped was mission impossible style. Why was he allowed to work in a kitchen with knives if he was just on remand and it's one of the highest clearance job and he's this smart.
What is he exactly charged with?
He must have a few burns on him from clinging on to the van on such a hot day. That's probably the only hope in finding him - he's burnt his face maybe? Otherwise he's not distinctive.

Based on his surname and complexion, I'd assume half-Iranian. But that's just my guess.

Yes, compared with the previous year, the number of escapes in the year ending March 2021 decreased from 16 to 5.

If he's a spy they might want him back. Inside job, spooks.
That's was the suggestion on Jeremy Vine today. Apparently the terrorism charges he was facing were for collecting data that could have been useful to Iran so they were posturing that he could have the support from the Iranian government in his escape.

Interesting. It'll be UK intelligence too.

I thought it was interesting when it was all first announced they were wondering if he had external help but didn’t seem to mention if there was someone on the inside helping him

Surely that’s more likely with an escape from inside the prison, that someone turned a blind eye to something

I’m astounded this was possible to happen, in London where CCTV is everywhere.

I just hope he doesn’t get to commit any acts whilst they are looking for him. If he was helped then there could be a whole network of help for him. He could be absolutely anywhere in the country, or even smuggled abroad.

I haven't read anything. Going to.
Would those on terrorism charges not be detained in a high security wings. This guy was dressed as a chef 😳

Apparently something like 80% of those charged with acts of terrorism are held in Wandsworth which is crazy. That's what I heard today - can't remember if it was on the radio or Sky news though.

ETA

There was a guy on Sky News yesterday who was a former inmate who said they were so short staffed that one of his jobs as an inmate was to take morning register on his wing!
I know inmates often have jobs to do inside in the kitchens or laundry or whatever but having the inmates taking register seems absolutely insane.

I'd think he's probably abroad by now. If he went to all that trouble to get out he won't have been planning to be caught in just a few days. It's definitely an odd case.
